What is a research paper?
A research paper is one in which you have identified a topic, have researched what others have written
about that topic, and (at the end of your paper) have taken a position of your own about elements of the
topic. All research papers should have a thesis (more on this later), which becomes the starting point for
your research. You support your thesis by presenting referenced information from reliable sources, such
as books, periodicals, journals, newspapers, on-line databases, academic/scholarly web sites, etc.
Important Note: Wikipedia is not an acceptable research source. Ever. All referenced material,
whether paraphrased (put in your own words) or quoted, must be cited properly in MLA format.
All research papers must contain proper MLA in-text citation as well as a Works Cited page. This
is a standard college-level writing requirement. There are writing resources available to you in
our “Research Paper Instructions and Resources” Module.

· What constitutes American music? (The first thought that comes to my mind when I ask this question is that if there were a true American music, it would have to be that of the American Indians who were the original inhabitants of this part of the world. This is true but as we all know, the European settlers savagely repressed the Native Americans and so little of their music was absorbed into the Euro/American culture.)
It is impossible to answer this question without considering the effect of African traditions on our musical heritage. Consider this quote from the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak, who spent several years in the United States teaching and conducting concerts of his own music:
“I am now satisfied that the future music of this country must be founded upon what are called "negro melodies". This must be the real foundation of any serious and original school of composition to be developed in the United States."
He was correct of course but I doubt he could ever have imagined the direction and diversity that school of composition would take. The "negro melodies" he was referring to are Negro Spirituals, work songs, field "hollers" and other such styles that developed in the South during the years of slavery. These songs are a blend of European musical traditions and African influences and are unique to the United States. They are rooted in the African American experience of slavery and the continuing struggle for freedom but if you think they are primarily political in that sense or racially exclusive, consider another quote for Dvorak:
"In the Negro melodies of America I discover all that is needed for a great and noble school of music. They are pathetic, tender, passionate, melancholy, solemn, religious, bold, merry, gay or what you will. It is music that suits itself to any mood or any purpose. There is nothing in the whole age of composition that cannot be supplied with themes from this source."
These "Negro melodies"- Spirituals, work songs, ragtime and the blues- are in fact at the heart of what American music has become. Everything from popular songs to jazz to "rock and roll" owe something to the style and energy of these songs.
The goal of this paper is to get an understanding the origins of what has become, with all due respect to native Americans, a truly American music.

In the context of the nature versus nurture controversy, nature means one’s genetic inheritance of traits such as intelligence, physical characteristics, and personality tendencies (Vander Zanden, Crandell, & Crandell, 2009). Nurture means the influence of environment, including parenting, schooling, physical environment, culture, and other factors (Vander Zanden et al., 2009). In the past, social scientists and others argued which factor—nature or nurture —was responsible in a given situation, but it is more common today to ask either how much is due to nature versus nurture, or how they interact (Vander Zanden et al., 2009). Vander Zanden et al. (2009) therefore characterize the current nature versus nurture controversy as asking either how or how much, rather than which.
While there are many theories that address the nature-nurture controversy, behaviorism most closely represents my view. Most of the behaviors needed to succeed in life are within the capabilities of most people, but some people’s environments make success unlikely for them. If a person is raised in an environment that does not support educational activities, that person is unlikely to become a physicist, even if he or she was born with the intelligence traits of an Einstein. Similarly, those raised in a violent environment are more likely to be violent, such as those who were abused as children may subsequently abuse their own children.

Research Paper Instructions
What is a research paper?
A research paper is one in which you have identified a topic, have researched what others have written
about that topic, and (at the end of your paper) have taken a position of your own about elements of the
topic. All research papers should have a thesis (more on this later), which becomes the starting point for
your research. You support your thesis by presenting referenced information from reliable sources, such
as books, periodicals, journals, newspapers, on-line databases, academic/scholarly web sites, etc.
Important Note: Wikipedia is not an acceptable research source. Ever. All referenced material,
whether paraphrased (put in your own words) or quoted, must be cited properly in MLA format.
All research papers must contain proper MLA in-text citation as well as a Works Cited page. This
is a standard college-level writing requirement. There are writing resources available to you in
our “Research Paper Instructions and Resources” Module.
For additional help on writing your research papers, please visit the SBCC Writing Center located

Research Paper TOPIC Instructions
Choose a topic that interests and challenges you. Your attitude towards the topic often determines the
amount of effort and enthusiasm you put into your research. If you are uncertain as to what is expected
of you in completing your research paper assignments, re-read your assignment sheets carefully or ask
me. That’s what I'm here for! Select a subject you can manage. Avoid topics that have only a narrow
range of source materials.
Your topic is to be an in-depth legal analysis of a law that has been discussed in lectures or in your
textbook. Specifically, you will critically analyze the various legal rulings and interpretations
surrounding your law.
You need to develop a thesis statement based upon your topic.
The thesis statement summarizes the main point of your paper and is often phrased as a question that
you then answer through your research. The thesis is normally found at the end of the paper's
introductory paragraph(s). It is usually a single sentence and acts as a guide to let your audience know
the central idea of your research and to know what to expect in the body of your paper. Your thesis
statement should be specific—it should cover only what you will discuss in your paper and should be
supported with specific evidence.

Human Health and Disease is an upper-level science course. You will learn about the human body and its structural components and
mechanisms that help the body maintain optimal working order. We will explore the relationship between the body's structure (anatomy) and

· What constitutes American music? (The first thought that comes to my mind when I ask this question is that if there were a true American music, it would have to be that of the American Indians who were the original inhabitants of this part of the world. This is true but as we all know, the European settlers savagely repressed the Native Americans and so little of their music was absorbed into the Euro/American culture.)
It is impossible to answer this question without considering the effect of African traditions on our musical heritage. Consider this quote from the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak, who spent several years in the United States teaching and conducting concerts of his own music:
“I am now satisfied that the future music of this country must be founded upon what are called "negro melodies". This must be the real foundation of any serious and original school of composition to be developed in the United States."
He was correct of course but I doubt he could ever have imagined the direction and diversity that school of composition would take. The "negro melodies" he was referring to are Negro Spirituals, work songs, field "hollers" and other such styles that developed in the South during the years of slavery. These songs are a blend of European musical traditions and African influences and are unique to the United States. They are rooted in the African American experience of slavery and the continuing struggle for freedom but if you think they are primarily political in that sense or racially exclusive, consider another quote for Dvorak:
"In the Negro melodies of America I discover all that is needed for a great and noble school of music. They are pathetic, tender, passionate, melancholy, solemn, religious, bold, merry, gay or what you will. It is music that suits itself to any mood or any purpose. There is nothing in the whole age of composition that cannot be supplied with themes from this source."
These "Negro melodies"- Spirituals, work songs, ragtime and the blues- are in fact at the heart of what American music has become. Everything from popular songs to jazz to "rock and roll" owe something to the style and energy of these songs.

In the context of the nature versus nurture controversy, nature means one’s genetic inheritance of traits such as intelligence, physical characteristics, and personality tendencies (Vander Zanden, Crandell, & Crandell, 2009). Nurture means the influence of environment, including parenting, schooling, physical environment, culture, and other factors (Vander Zanden et al., 2009). In the past, social scientists and others argued which factor—nature or nurture —was responsible in a given situation, but it is more common today to ask either how much is due to nature versus nurture, or how they interact (Vander Zanden et al., 2009). Vander Zanden et al. (2009) therefore characterize the current nature versus nurture controversy as asking either how or how much, rather than which.
While there are many theories that address the nature-nurture controversy, behaviorism most closely represents my view. Most of the behaviors needed to succeed in life are within the capabilities of most people, but some people’s environments make success unlikely for them. If a person is raised in an environment that does not support educational activities, that person is unlikely to become a physicist, even if he or she was born with the intelligence traits of an Einstein. Similarly, those raised in a violent environment are more likely to be violent, such as those who were abused as children may subsequently abuse their own children.

Shaw & Co., a Wall Street investment firm, to found an Internet venture. Bezos, who
holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Princeton
University, had been searching systematically for a way to participate in the growth of
retailing on the Internet. After considering a number of alternatives, he settled on the
idea of establishing an online bookstore.
Overview
Amazon.com was founded in Seattle, Washington in July 1994 with an initial
investment of $10,000 by Bezos. The entire first year of the venture’s existence was
devoted to development of infrastructure: designing the website, establishing relations
with distributors, developing software to manage book orders and deliveries, designing a
search engine, and developing the software to manage the cash flow of the venture. For
the most part, development efforts were performed by Bezos, himself.
Amazon.com opened for business on the Internet in July 1995, billing itself as
“Earth’s Biggest Bookstore.” The Company offers over 2.5 million titles, including most
of the 1.5 million of the English-language titles currently in print. By contrast, even the
largest traditional bookstore does not carry more than 175,000 titles in inventory.
The Company’s objective is to become “the leading online retailer of information-
based products and services, with an initial focus on books.” Amazon expects to compete

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the

environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
