A Supplementary Material in Elementary Science Grade Three
Uses of Water

work is created shall be necessary for exploitation of such work for profit.”

Science Supplementary Material implemented by Curriculum and Learning Management
Division (CLMD) of the Department of Education Region VII (DepED RO7) in collaboration with
the Visayan Electric Company (VECO). Prior approval must be given by the LRMDS lodged at
DepED Regional Office VII and the source must be clearly acknowledged.
This supplementary material has been edited, enhanced and produced by the DepED ROVII
LRMDS for maximum utilization.

Overview:
Water is needed by all living things to live. They cannot survive
without water. Do you know that water is used by people in different ways?
This learning material provides information to the pupils about the
different uses of water. The activities given are easy to perform and by
doing them, they will acquire new knowledge about the different uses of
water that they could apply in their daily life.
I.Objectives
a. Enumerate ways people use water;
b. Act out how people use water; and
c. Appreciate the importance of water to man’s life.

III. Procedure
A. Motivation
Show pictures of people using water in different ways.
Let the pupils describe the pictures shown.
Teaching hints:
The teacher writes on the board the responses given by the pupils.
(This is done to find out later whether the ideas given are correct.)
B. Activity
1. Pre Lab Discussion
a. Groupings
b. Distribution of activity sheets and materials needed
2. Activities (See separate sheet)
Teaching Hints:
 Pictures are provided for this activity.
 Cut the pictures separately (rice fields, waterfalls, people
preparing food) into 7 pieces to compose a picture puzzle.
 The teacher will divide the class into three groups to work
on the activity cooperatively.
C. Analysis
Teaching Hint:
 The teacher should accept different answers from the
pupils
1. How do people use water?
2. Is water important? Why?
3. In activity 3, how is water being used?
4. What can electricity give us?
5. How can you help conserve electricity?
D. Abstraction
What are the uses of water?
E. Application
Let each group pantomime the importance of water in their daily
life activities.

List down at least 5 uses of water
V. Assignment
Write a 2-3-sentence paragraph about the importance of water to
one’s life.

Activity 1
1. The people are celebrating fiesta. They are busy cooking
foods.
Activity 2
1.Farmers are planting rice in the field. They use water for
irrigation.
Activity 3
1.Waterfalls is used as a source of energy to produce
electricity.
2.It gives us light during night time. It makes our appliances
work.
3.I can conserve electricity by turning off the lights when not in
use and unplugging appliances after using.

1. Water is used for household and personal purposes such as
for drinking, cooking food, cleaning, and watering the plants.
Farmers use water for irrigation.
Water is used as a source of energy to produce electricity.

for us to live.
3. It gives us electricity.
4. It gives us light during night time. It makes our appliances work.
5. I can help conserve electricity by turning off the lights when not
in used.

Assessment:
1. Farmers use water for irrigation.
2. Water is used for drinking, cooking and washing clothes.
3. It is also used in cleaning a place or an area and in watering the
plants.
4. Water is used as a medium for ships and small boats in
transporting people and other organisms from one place to
another.
5. Water is used as a source of energy.
Abstraction :
Water is used for personal and household purposes, watering plants,
cleaning factory materials and source of electricity.
