1. Need Help! How do you work this? Where Am I? What Is A Wiki? Can I Join? USER GUIDE
2. WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN THIS GUIDE WIKI’S can look daunting the first time you come across one as they are not your typical web-site. What I hope this guide will do is demonstrate firstly how easy they can be to understand and secondly how useful they can be. Please if you feel more information was required or you found this guide to be useful leave a comment on the discussion page (you will be shown how to access this later in the guide)
3. WIKI WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? Don’t worry it is just another word for a website that the user creates on-line, and they are free! What’s the difference A WIKI is interactive, you could say it operates like a forum where the visitor can Leave comments. The difference to a forum though is once you are a member of the Wiki site you are on you can also alter the content.
4. HOW DO I LEAVE A COMMENT? At the top of the page you will see a tab called discussion, click on that tab and you will be taken to a new page where you will see a list of topics. Click the topic you would like to start or continue a discussion on and you will be transported to yet another page where you can type to your heart is content. When you are finished press submit and you are done
5. YOU SAID I COULD ALTER THE PAGES! Well you can but first you have to be a member of that WIKI. For this to happen you will be invited by the person who first created the WIKI. Or better yet why not create your own WIKI, they are not only a handy way for members of a company, school or club to communicate but are great for families and friends who might be scattered to the four corners of the globe to keep in contact and share ideas.
6. HOW DO I GET AROUND? For all of the sections pertained to the subject you are reading about you find the link son the bottom half of the column on the left, you will also notice all the authors names who created those sections. Towards the top of the left column will be the main page link from there you will be able to see all of the different sections and what Subject they will cover.
7. HOW BIG IS A WIKI? How long is a piece of string (well half it’s total). A WIKI can contain unlimited amounts of pages and to create is not at all complicated, links and page layout are created automatically for you and with a little practice and patience you can quickly become a WIKI master.
8. WHAT DOES THE SYMBOL BELOW MEAN? This indicates that can play a video right from the page you are viewing. You press anywhere on the image first to activate the player, then you press the arrow in the middle to start the video playing.
9. OTHER TYPES OF MEDIA Currently this wiki has two types of media contained on it’s pages – video and a new type of media where you can view PowerPoint presentations just hit the next button to view the next slide in the presentation
