requested my MSc software. Have promised to provide it despite warnings that my software is highly user-unfriendly At the moment, I'm in Canada working with Mark West at CAST to develop my construction methods and designs. I will be back in the UK on the 9th May, after which I'm hoping to construct some prototype beams (4m span) using both steel and advanced composite (carbon fibres, most probably) reinforcement. This work should then inform the rest of my research, and I will certainly keep you informed of my progress. In terms of my overall research, I think I will focus mainly on the testing of fabric formed structures, although I have been talking with Dr. Chris Williams (one of the lecturers here at Bath) about developing a more rigorous computer program for fabric formwork . Finally, I have a few more documents on my computer in Bath that I will forward to you when I return to the UK (hopefully I can also get you electronic copies of Joe Garbett's and John Bailiss' theses).
Division II: Mathematics, Natural and Engineering Sciences of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) accepts applications for project funding in investigator-driven (basic) research on 1st March and 1st October every year. http://www.snf.ch/E/funding/projects/math-engineering/Pages/default.aspx http://www.bbt.admin.ch/kti/projektfoerderung/00245/index.html?lang=en Mail van Mark t.a.v. patenten en mogelijk toepassing fabric formwork bij Witteveen + Bos: Diederik, About patents, I have a fairly good knowledge of US patent prior art, having made several applications in the past. In the US (and Europe for that matter) there are probably no new basic patents possible. The field is surprisingly old, with the first patents in this area being filed in the late 1800's. Another flurry of patents were filed in the 1960's and 70's, and again following the introduction of polyolefin fabrics in the mid- to late- 1980's and onwards. Surely there is still room for accessory patents, though my read on this is that unless you are a manufacturer, the real advantage may be in expertise rather than in intellectual property protection. There are so few people with the expertise and confidence to use of flexible formwork that it will not be difficult to stay ahead of the competition if your company is dedicated to learning and practicing (and researching). Many architects are indeed interested in the aesthetic possibilities of FF concrete. The big limitation at the moment is the lack of builders willing to give a price for a FF job. Here is my overview of the commercial landscape at the moment: In my opinion, Unno's walls and formwork techniques are by far the most sophisticated wall technology (aesthetically, technically, and in terms of sustainability). The Bulge Wall method will have a strong architectural interest and should be particularly easy for builders to price and construct. I also think the FF trusses have great promise (too bad your boss didn't notice this). Column forms are, of course, a super simple and sustainable option as well - and most easily applied. The shell work we are doing now is not ready yet for commercial consideration. Everything I have invented is placed in the public domain and available to your company for development without restrictions (only the truss molds are patent pending in the US and Canada). As I understand it, Unnos's wall system are also in the public domain. I would be quite willing to work with your firm to advance any of the applications/inventions you have an interest in pursuing. That is what I am here to do. -Mark
*Mark West received the Holcim Award Bronze for region North America in 2005 for his project Material Reduction - Efficient Fabric-Formed Concrete.
English, 20 min. ---- Dear Diederik Thank you for your email. We will be more than happy to have your paper to be considered for possible publication in Structural Concrete. You will have to if possible change it to read more like paper than a conference paper. The style layout would need to conform to our style of the journal. Please see the attached. I look forward to receiving your paper by uploading it to www.editorialmanager.com/sc
