Subject:- Hearing in the matter of Uniform Civil Code
Ref : Your Letter dated 19th
March, 2018.
Respected Sir,
The undersigned is the citizen of India and a permanent resident
at the address given below. The undersigned came across the Letter
dated 19.3.2019 (noticed by the undersigned on 29.3.2018 which was
uploaded on the website of the Law Commission of India. After going
through the said it is learnt that the Law Commissioner has invited the
suggestions/ discussion/ consultation/ working papers on the issues
pertaining to the Uniform Civil Code. It is mentioned in the said letter
that the suggestions/ discussion/ consultation/ working papers should be
submitted on or before 6th
April, 2018.
I, the undersigned being citizen of India is very much interested to
address the Commission on the issues relating to the Uniform Civil Code
as the same is very important and have a bearing on my personal life
and liberties so also freedom of speech and expression as guaranteed
by the Constitution of India.
I am shocked and surprised to notice that a very short and/or
virtually no time is given to make suggestions/ discussion/ consultation/
working papers. The matter being of great importance cannot be
proceeded with in haste. A detailed discussion and individual’s opinion
is necessary before making any recommendation. Considering the
paucity of time it is not possible for the undersigned to give the
2. suggestions/ discussion/ consultation/ working papers, on the issues
within such a short span. For preparing the suggestions/ discussion/
consultation/ working papers the undersigned need time to examine
various issues and to make detailed study before making any
submissions.
Another shocking fact which has been noticed that although the
suggestions/ discussion/ consultation/ working papers are invited on the
issues, however, no issues are framed on which the suggestions/
discussion/ consultation/ working papers is sought by the Commission.
Being citizen of India I am eager to give my detailed suggestions/
discussion/ consultation/ working papers on any of the issues concerning
the Uniform Civil Code. As mentioned in your above referred letter I am
willing to personally address the Commission on all the issues.
As my fundamental Rights are directly involved and would be
affected, I request this Hon’ble Commission to grant a reasonable time
for giving my detailed suggestions/ discussion/ consultation/ working
papers on the issues. The time period for giving detailed suggestions/
discussion/ consultation/ working papers be therefore extended by
atleast 60 days for enabling us to undertake a detailed study and make
submissions.
As I am also interested to make oral submissions in the matter, I
would also request you to grant me personal hearing in the matter.
Considering the fact that the undersigned is a woman and it is practically
not possible for me to visit your place, I request you to hold the hearing
at Nagpur.
Thanking you in anticipation
