2. Dr. Michael Thomas, a board-certified neurosurgeon,
recently finished a neurological spine fellowship through
the University of Miami. Dr. Michael Thomas now applies
the skills he learned there as owner and CEO of Cascade
Neurosurgical Associates in Yakima, Washington.
At the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine,
physicians who have completed their residencies may
pursue advanced specialized training in skullbase,
neurotrauma, neuroendovascular, neurooncology, and
spine surgery as well as pediatric neurosurgery. The spinal
surgery program operates under the direction of Dr. Allan
D. Levi, a neurosurgeon, fellow of the American College of
Surgeons, and elected member of the Senior Neurosurgical
Society.
3. Dr. Levi draws on extensive clinical and research expertise
to lead a program that provides a thorough clinical
grounding with many opportunities for research
involvement.
Spine surgery fellows in the Miller School of Medicine's
Department of Neurosurgery learn to treat degenerative
and vascular disease in addition to spinal tumors and
trauma. Fellows become adept in the use of industry-
leading equipment and instrumentation while also taking
advantage of the university system's facilities. Students
have the opportunity to work with physicians in the Level-
1 trauma center and adult neurosurgical unit at Jackson
Memorial Hospital, as well as the neuro-intensive care unit
at the University of Miami Hospital.
