This document outlines an icebreaker activity where participants choose a movie poster that best represents their school's implementation of Common Core Standards. They then discuss in groups why they chose that movie, and a facilitator records key discussion points on a chart. At the end, groups reflect on if their thinking has changed based on the training and if they would select a different movie poster.
1. Which movie title best describes your
implementation of CCSS this year?
2. 1. Go stand next to the movie poster that best
describes your school’s implementation of Common Core

3. Movie Icebreaker Description
Participants will choose a movie title according to the guiding question
asked and move to that space in the room where the movie is posted.
Chart paper and markers will be provided and each participant will share
why they chose this movie title. Someone will chart out key words or draw
pictures of what is being shared. When time is up, a participant from each
group will summarize what was shared to the whole group. At the end of
the training, participants will return to the same group and reflect on how
what they have learned has changed their thinking, and whether they
might want to move to another poster now. Again, the groups will share
out their thoughts.
