Frequency-Tension Relation

Summation – the increase in muscle tension from successive action potentials occurring during the phase of mechanical activity Tetanus (tetanic contraction) - a maintained contraction in response to repetitive stimulation

Unfused tetanus - produced at low stimulation frequencies with oscillations as the muscle fiber partially relaxes between stimuli Fused tetanus - produced at higher stimulation frequencies with no oscillations Maximal tetanic tension - reached wherein the tension no longer increases with further increases in stimulation frequency ,[object Object],[object Object]
