Library Reach Grant
We have been awarded the 2012 Library REACH grant. This means we will be able to upgrade
our LMS – Library Management Software and add desktops to the library. Special thanks to Ms.
Malloy for taking the time to be there for the library visit and interview.
Spanish resources added to our collection
Ms. Dunnick, a teacher at MHBX, noticed that BECL lacked the resources needed to support our
ELL and ESL population. Working collaboratively, we have added several new books that our
students have already begun checking out. We look forward to the continued diversification our
book collection!
LibGuides
Our library was part of the NYC School Library Services pilot program. The pilot is for LibGuides,
a web 2.0 content management and publishing system, created by SpringShare. The cost of
LibGuides ranges from $1000 – $2500, but our enrollment in the pilot program has provided us
with free access for the 2011 – 2012 academic year. Libraries use the application to integrate
multimedia content into library services, promote library resources, and create subject guides,
course guides, information portals, research help pages, etc.

New Visions Campus Librarians Network
The Campus Librarians Network met on January 25, 2011. We continued aligning our IFC
(Information Fluency Curriculum) with the NYC Common Core. We also worked on identifying
entry points for the Common Core in our current library lessons and units. Our next meeting is in
March.
Bronx Health Connect
We were pleased to host the first PD session of the new Health-Ed curriculum for NYCDOE
schools on January 28th. We look forward to working with all three schools as they begin
instruction with this new and important curriculum. The next PD session will be held in the library
on February 29, 2012.
World Book Night
World Book Night is an annual celebration devoted to spreading the joy of reading. Our library has
been selected to serve as both a book-giving and book pick-up location. Two additional teachers
and support staff have signed up to be book givers as well. We look forward to spreading the joy
of reading by handing out books in our community.
Library Recovery
The library is closed from 2:10- 2:55. During this time, students should not be in the library, with
or without a teacher. Since this is the only recovery (circulation, cataloguing, computer
maintenance) time built into the schedule, classes will not be scheduled.
