Project Objectives: Create a series of three works with the following:
• Demonstrating an overriding theme or concept that brings together a
series
• Shows a clear understanding of composition and planning in each piece
• Each work has a full range of value
• The color choice for the series is clear and meaningful as well as carried
through all three pieces.
Project Materials: three pieces of watercolor paper; drawing pencils and
erasers; tube watercolor; brushes
Main Project Directions:
1. Decide on an overall theme or concept for your pieces. It can be a
landscape, interior, a self-portrait, or a still life series.
2. Make three thumbnails for each painting. Use visual movement. The
pieces need to work individually and as a grouping.
3. Draw each piece in value – with a full range of 0 – 9 values. Shade
accordingly.
4. Use watercolor washes to create color within each piece.
All three works are due on Monday, May 17 (this due date is set in stone!!!)
Make sure to label the order of the paintings on the back – #1, #2, #3!!!
