India ink and brush drawing Self-portrait in a dramatic light
condition.

What to do?
Thumbnails:
1. Set up a workspace where
you can work undisturbed.
2. Find a dark area you can
light up.
3. Begin in pencil first.
4. Sketch in the darkest value,
but do this lightly.
2D – Create a background first by
using either newspaper, magazine
images, or an enlarged personal
photo. Go over the surface with a
gesso wash, allowing key words or
images to peer through.
Drawing – Use an acrylic ground
for your background. You can have
more than one color.
