Our Quote
“There go the people. I must follow them for
I am their leader.” by Alexandre Ledru-
  Rollin
Background:
         Alexandre Ledru-Rollin
              (1807–1874)

Was a well-known French politician.
Began his career as a lawyer.
Became known as a radical opponent to the
succession of Louis Philippe.
Was elected to the chamber of deputies in 1841.
Became minister of the interior
in the provisional government.
Background (contd.)
Included in the executive commission that
replaced the provisional government in May of
1848.
Was a candidate for president in the election of
December 1848.
Wrote numerous revolutionary pamphlets.
Was elected to the chamber of deputies in 1874.
Was a very powerful speaker.
His speeches and pamphlets were
collected in his Discours politiques
et écrits divers.
Ledru-Rollin’s Intent
Great leaders develop and empower their
“followers” so that the leader can watch the
accomplishments of others and be there to
simply offer assistance when needed.

The leader is not meant to dictate every move of
the group, but is there to help everyone see the
overall picture, provide resources, and prioritize.
Our Group’s Interpretation
Shows the difference between being a
manager and being a leader.
Managers issue orders, while leaders
motivate people toward their goals.
Often leaders make the mistake of trying
to manage people instead of lead them.
A true leader realizes that people must
reach goals on their own, and they are
only there to help them along the way.
Type of Leadership
Democratic Leadership Style:
 Empowers employees to make decisions
 and changes within the organization.
 Leader provides the resources needed.
 Creativity is encouraged and rewarded.
 Higher employee commitment and
 increased problem solving.

                     Head Coach
Conclusion
Our interpretation of the quote is that leaders
empower their followers and stand by only to
assist “followers” when they are in need.
It is important not to direct and dictate others.
Successful leaders:
– Create a supporting environment
– Help everyone see the overall picture
– Provide resources
– Prioritize
– And allow others to realize their potentials.
