Megastar Amitabh Bachchan feels proud that India
has been declared a polio free nation.
Global superstar and UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador
for Polio eradication for almost a decade, Amitabh is
delighted with the news that India has officially
been declared polio free by the World Health
Organisation (WHO).
‘As the brand ambassador for the United Nations in
the fight for polio eradication, I’m very happy and
proud that India has been declared a polio-free
country. I wish to applaud the efforts of the various
volunteers and medical workers who have persevered
tirelessly and charitably to enable India to be
eradicated of the disease,’ Bachchan said.

Meanwhile, Bachchan has been
voted among the ‘world’s most
admired people’ by a top British

A top media house in Britain
recently conducted a poll among
its huge base of readers, who
voted Amitabh as one of ‘The top
10 admired People of the World’.
The survey of ‘world’s most
admired people’ was conducted by
YouGov, on nearly 14,000 people in
the US, Great Britain, France,
Germany, Russia, India, China,
Australia, Pakistan, Brazil, Egypt,
Nigeria and Indonesia.

The foundation has entered into a tie-up with Kerala
based Lakshmi Hospital, to offer medical aid,
support and free surgeries to the poor and needy in
Kerala.
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has
announced a contribution of Rs 11 lakh for 'Resul
Pookutty Foundation', a non-profit welfare
organisation founded by Padma Shri and Oscar
winning sound technician.

Bachchan was here to unveil the 'Jeevarogya
Medical Welfare' campaign launched by Pookutty's
Foundation.
Lauding Pookutty's efforts, Bachchan said, "There
are very few amongst us who would have decided
like Resul. Not living in the glory of his great
recognition, he had decided to convert what good
he can do towards his own community and the
people."

The 67-year-old superstar said there were two reasons for his
coming to Kochi, one of them being that he had promised
to be present whenever Pookutty begins this activity and the
other being his "association" with the medical profession in
this country.
"I commend Resul's efforts and desire to serve the people and
reaching beyond his professional world through a sound
social initiative of this kind," Bachchan said.
The foundation has entered into a tie-up with Kerala based

Speaking on the occasion the actor also expressed
his faith in the country's medical talent which is why
he never ventured overseas for treatment.
"I know there are many occasions in the past when
I had the means to have myself treated outside the
country, but I always respected and had good faith
in the medical talent that is available now and I had
not ventured out overseas for the treatment," he
said.
Bachchan said he had "great association" with the
medical profession in the country. "I had natural
attraction to everything that is medically
concerned," he said.

Pookutty said the past year had been a "dream run"
for him. "From the time I won the Oscar, the gates
have opened for me to stand up and serve the
society in a larger way," he said.
"Somewhere, all this is the manifestation of many of
my dreams and born out of various personal
experiences" he said, adding "the overwhelming
warmth and love showered upon me across the
world needed to be reciprocated in a relevant
direction, and bring to attention worthy issues
around me."
"This was an earnest effort and a small beginning to
that end," Pookutty said.

2012 • April • For his invaluable contribution to the eradication of
polio in India, the Rotary International conferred Amitabh
Bachchan with the Polio Eradication Champion Award at an
event held in India. The Polio Eradication Champion Award is the
highest honour Rotary presents to heads of state, health agency
leaders and others, who have made significant contributions to

MEMORIAL TO HIS FATHER HARIVANSH RAI
BACHCHAN.
The living legend, Amitabh Bachchan, who has always been
in the news for his films and his work has always been active
with social work and social awareness campaigns. This time
the actor par excellence has made it to the spotlight for his
newly launched trust.
Amitabh Bachchan has launched a trust as a memorial to his
father Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Commenting on the set up,
Big B said, "For long we have been wanting to open a Trust a
Memorial in the name of my revered Father Dr Harivansh Rai
Bachchan .. and after years of waiting and proper paper work
to be established, we have it functional now. It is called
Harivansh Rai Bachchan Memorial Trust, or HRB Memorial
Trust .. and in future we shall be conducting activities, through
our own initiative and participation to collect funds for the
needy.

children in schools, sponsoring a child's education,

14. MR. AMITABH BACHCHAN DONATES TOWARDS THE
CAUSE OF THE GIRL CHILD
Bollywood’s biggest superstar, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan
donated Rs. 2.5 million to Plan India towards the cause
of the girl child in India, at a press conference at his
office in Mumbai. Wife Jaya, son Abhishek and
daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai — all dressed in white —
were also present. The family would raise funds for Plan
India’s ‘Because I am a Girl’ campaign, through
proceeds generated from the art exhibition which was
organized by Mr. Bachchan’s family on his 70th birthday
on October 11, 2012, which coincided with the first ever
International Day of the Girl Child, and also through
proceeds from sale of a book from Big B’s (as he is
popularly called) 70th birthday celebrations.

16. AMITABH BACHCHAN DONATES RS 2.5 LAKHS TO
DELHI CONSTABLE
December 26th, 2012.
Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has donated Rs
2.5 lakhs to the family of Subhash Chand Tomar, the
Delhi Police constable, who passed away after being
badly beaten up during the protests against the gang
rape of a 23 year old girl.
Bachchan tweeted “Honoured by the Award of
Eminence given to me tonight by SIES, South Indian
Educational Society.. Humbled and moved by the grace!
Been to many Award functions in 40 years of my
professional career, but never one so graceful, dignified
and filled with purity! Among the many other blessings
and citations they gave a cash Award of Rs 250,000″.

the late Police constable’s family “Many do not
know that a police constable was critically injured in
the protests that turned violent day before.. he
succumbed! Constable carrying out orders in the
line of duty.. was only earning member of his large
family..! I have donated my cash Award money to
