Amplittude of free space would be
perceibed as soon as you enter the

4. Projected to be one of Surquillo (Lima) district’s icons, the building is
located in an area with great potential value due to its proximity with
Lima’s Cultural, financial and Historical districts at the same time, but the
establishment of illegal residents and workshops kept the district
boosting. The building contains a Convention Center,a Commercial Center,
a Cultural Center and more than 30 office stories. It is meant to be raised in
the middle of the new Financial Center in Surquillo and symbolizes the
district’s development. The oblique shape of the building ascending helps
the metaphor of a late but well achieved improvement. Resolving the
structural concept in this exercise helped me improve my structural logics. SURQUILLO TOWER

MIRAFLORES
HOTEL
This 5 star hotel building aims to maximize the given
area and benefit from its surroundings; trying to make
the building face the important historic park next to it
and letting most public areas benefit from the view. One
of the objectives was to optimise the usable area in this
small and critical triangular shaped piece of land, as well
as reinforcing the obliqueness of the perimeter streets
and its perspective with the shape of the hotel’s volume.
The architectural program contains, apart from the
hotel services, one luxury Convention Center, retail
areas and a restaurant open to public.

7. This design studio also gave me the opportunity to
get famirialized with constructive details as I
designed and develop the full constructive plans for
the main Lobby staircase of the Hotel. Considering
the curved shape of the stairs, it was a good exercise
to understand how construction takes place in real
life and how constructive details should be drawn.
5
8. CONSTRUCTION PLANS
DESIGN STUDIO
The ‘A’ House, the ‘Toroide’ and the ‘Parihuela space’
projects are small/simple exercises meant to reinforce our
structural and constructional idea in architecture. The
objective of this design studio was to understand the
logics in architectural physics and structures in buildings.
PARIHUELA SPACE One kind of recycled
wooden hand barrow
works as a module to
construct a small space for
meditation. The constructi-
ve process is to stack the
hand barrows with the
help of wooden columns
and beams from the inside.
For the covering, two
additional beams placed in
opposite diagonal
positions (one on each
side) hold tight ropes to
make a curved shape roof.
6
9. This exercise consisted in choosing one object with a rare and
complicated form, picturing it as a building and speculating
how that building could be structured. In this case I chose a
computer mouse with an aerodynamic and curved form, and
then visualize it as an indoor arena. The process was to simplify
the object by sketching and figuring how that coverage form
could be shaped considering the building’s skeleton; in the
same way our human skeleton gives us our human form.

12. UNIVERSITY
RESIDENCE
BUILDING
The building was conceived as and architectural solution
to maximize the use of the given area considering its
triangular form with sharp angles. The building is located
next to the university campus and surrounded by
commercial activity destined to students. The residence
tries to integrate student’s everyday life with the city’s
animation, placing the leisure areas visually connected to
the streets and the housing areas to the leisure. The
building has 14 levels; the first four are destined to both
commercial and student usage and include one cafe, retail
area and polyvalent halls. The next 10 level contain the
private areas like leisure rooms, terrace and housing.

ANALYSIS: PLAZA DALÍ (MADRID)
This work elaborates an analysis of an urban
regeneration project that achieved the physical
improvement of a cultural plaza in Madrid. The
work analyses and describes how the interven-
tion in the given area had immediate reactions in
the way people used the public space. Part of the
job was to identify the problems that led to an
urban regeneration and the solutions, as well as
a physical-formal analysis of the public space
contained within the borders of the plaza.

15. HYBRID TOWER
This project is about bringing the city to a
vertical kind of living, that’s how the tower
contains many usages, not necessarily compati-
ble with each other, along its height. Housing,
retail, primary school, markets, hotels, restau-
rants, medical centers and offices can be found
along the tower. The building is supposed to be
conceived as an icon to Lima and Perú for it is
located right near one of the most important
harbours in South America. The building itself
consists of actually two towers linked to one
another by the elevator/escalator nucleus and in
some levels also by its utility. Public spaces like
parks and plazas interconnect the towers also in
specific levels. Metallic structures in facades and
elevator nucleus are the main structural compo-
nents of the building and are important to allow
the oblique changing form of the towers.

RETAIL STORE
This big retail building was
designed and developed with the
Cheng+Franco architectural studio.
It consists of a big commercial area
(~3600 sm2), administrative areas
and some small retail galleries. The
personal achievements in this
project were to understand in
certain degree the internal functio-
ning of a big retail shop, both inside
the shop and behind it; and getting
more involved in to construction
systems and details, for the building
mixed different kind of materials
both on the inside and the outside.
14
17. This project was designed and developed with
the Cheng+Franco architectural studio. It consis-
ted in designing 10 apartments, some of them
duplexes, between 177 – 360 m2 distributed in 5
stories including the roof and terrace. My partici-
pation in designing and developing this building
lead a deeper comprehension of architectural
solutions to maximize the area and provide the
spaces with quality and natural illumination. I
had the chance also to design from sketch some
details in common areas that gave me an even
deeper understanding of constructive systems.

PROGAMA ARQUITECTÓNICO 3D
This small house for children day-keeping is
designed to be constructed in an area where most
families live under poor conditions and where social
problems do not allow children to grow up safely.
The commission was to give mothers inside the
community a free and safe space to take care of
their babies and children away from any kind of
threats even the ones that come from their own
houses; and also a space for them to have board
reunions and events related to motherhood issues.

19. COFFEE TOURIST CENTER
The project’s goal is to rescue the rural identity of Quillabamba city, which is
being left behind by the local people itself due to the economic development
and rise of new industries. The city’s establishment had a lot to do with agricul-
tural practices and especially with coffee-culture. That’s why this project is
located inside the only operating farm left in the district: Hacienda Potrero. It
contains two buildings: a Rural Hotel incorporated with an Interpretation
Center for Coffee culture (including a coffee wet mill) and a Pavilion for Coffee
Cultural events. Both are connected through paths across the coffee plantation,
allowing visitors to have a closer experiencie with the environment. The Hotel is
located 200 meters away from the farm’s main buildings and Potrero´s rural
village, in order to gain more intimacy with nature and coffee plantations. The
Pavilion is located right next to the village and the old factory as it will bring
large groups of visitors closer to the agro-industrial life.
CONCEPT
The idea of this project is to
mantain the gravity expres-
sion in the buildings the
same way Andean architects
practiced. Also conceive the
building as a stairway to the
coffee plantations and a
natural landscape sculpture.

23. Both buildings try to connect users with the
environment, remembering also the Andean
legacy from our ancestors. In this way, the Hotel
building seeks the formal mimesis with the
terrain, as it reinterprets the mountains’langua-
ge of logical gravity, and also the use of terraces
in order to integrate the building with topogra-
phy. The volumes’ distribution also allows the
best landscape views as you enter across the
lobby and continue to the main public areas.
The rooms and spa, on the other hand, seek a
more intimate relation with coffee plants.

CULTURAL PAVILION: CONCEPT
This building is inspired in the coffee plantation techniques as it
reinterprets the light filter ‘pacae’ trees provide to coffee and the
tree‘s horizontal shape. The modular piece of metalic structrure that
holds the roof is designed to make a remembrance of how local
trees give shadow to the coffee plantations, as they shelter the
audience coming to cultural events related to coffee culture.

25. QUISQUE HOUSE
This rural house is situated on a hill facing a
small wine valley in Cañete, Lima. The house is
clearly divided in two sections: the private
section involving the bedrooms, indoor
kitchen and living room; and the outdoor
section that contains the outdoor kitchen and
the family patio. This last section has an
importance for the owners since is the place
where they usually rest, cook, watch their kids
play, and receive visitors (including tourists).
Close to this area a small nursery garden is
located for the practice of gardening which
the owner is accostumed with.
