school, and home. Over the past four weeks, 100% of my daily tasks as an intern at liveWELL
have been computer based. I am learning more and more things about different programs to
design my incentive program, writing articles, and updating flyers of health information all on
behalf of liveWELL. As I reflect on my computer skill development, I will discuss the different
tasks I have been faced with and the skills I have gained from them, as well as how each have
impacted my academic, professional, and personal development. Each day brings a new

about promoting nutrition in the workplace. The article featured a story about the Hardin Library
utilizing a Wellness Grant from liveWELL to purchase a NutriBullet blender for the break room and

through smoothies. I was given documents about healthy eating in the workplace, an interview with
the Wellness Ambassador of the Hardin Library, and a report on the effectiveness of the

As a female computer science student and teaching assistant, I am aware that my status as a
minority in my chosen field of study influences the interactions I have and the decisions I make
each day. I also know that in this, I am not alone. According to C. Wright Mills (1959), the
sociological imagination "enables its possessor to understand the larger historical scene in terms of
... their daily experience ... [and] their social positions." In other words, to think sociologically, one
must understand the inherent link between history and their own personal biography. Canadian
women have become "increasingly well–educated" and "represent a larger share of the labour market
today than they have ever represented previously," however, even with these changes, Canadian
women are still significantly less likely to pursue university degrees in STEM (science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics) fields than their male peers (Ferguson, 2016). I know that my
experience as a computer science student is related to my personal characteristics in some ways,
however studies show that the experiences of women in computer science are linked to greater
social patterns like gender socialization, gender inequality, and norms surrounding gender and
occupation. As Mills (1959) outlines, the relationship between personal troubles and public issues is
closely interdependent because we must understand the nature of one to understand the other and
vice versa. Mills defines personal troubles as

My Goals in Studying Computer Science
My ambition to study further and to do research in the field of computer science has developed out
of my experiences in my academic life, work practices and also from my family environment,
which has always encouraged me to learn and take my decisions by myself. My interest at school
level lies more in subject of maths, science and computer sciences. I had created my first program in
LOGO progdramming language in my 5th grade. That was the time when I first encountered
computer programming and then in my subsequent years of schooling I have learned many things of
computer science. At that time I was not fully aware about the field of computer science. But after
coming in my undergraduate studies I have gained an insight of computer science in my course
work and became more interested in the field of computer science. Later I have decided to further
enhance my knowledge and do research by pursuing my masters in field of computer science. My

from my school days and also I scored consistently 95% and above in the same during my
