This medication is used to treat several skin problems (acne, acne rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis). Sodium sulfacetamide works by stopping the growth of certain bacteria on the skin that can lead to acne and worsen these other skin conditions. It belongs to a class of drugs known as sulfa antibiotics. Sulfur works by helping remove the top layer of dead skin. It belongs to a class of drugs known as keratolytics. How to use Sulfacet-Rtopical
Thismedicationisforuse on the skinonly.
Cleananddry the affectedskinareaandyour hands.Some productsneedtobe shakenbefore use.If
so directed onthe productlabel,shake the containerwell before eachuse.Applyathinlayerof the
productto the areasof skinwithacne,rosacea,or seborrheaasdirectedbyyourdoctor, usually1to
3 timesdaily.Dosage isbasedonyourmedical conditionandresponse totreatment.Follow your
doctor’sdirections.Washyourhandswithsoapand wateraftereach use.
Do not applythisproductto skinthat iscracked,broken,or raw because thismayincrease yourrisk
of side effects.
Avoidgettingthismedicationonyoureyelidsorlips,orinyoureyes,nose,ormouth.If you do get
medicationinthese areas,rinse withplentyof water.
Use thismedicationregularlytogetthe mostbenefitfromit.Donot applylarge amountsof this
medication,use itmore often,oruse itfor longerthanprescribed.Yourconditionwill notimprove
any faster,andyour riskof side effectsmayincrease.
Tell yourdoctor if yourconditiondoesnotimprove afterafew weeks.Stopusingthismedication

Side Effects

2. Mildpeelingof the toplayerof skinisexpected.Skinirritation,redness,andscalingmayalsooccur.
If any of these effects persistorworsen,stopusingthismedicationandtell yourdoctoror
pharmacistpromptly.
Rememberthatyourdoctor hasprescribedthismedicationbecause he orshe hasjudgedthatthe
benefittoyouisgreaterthan the riskof side effects.Manypeople usingthismedicationdonothave
seriousside effects.
Rarely,sodiumsulfacetamide productsappliedtothe skinmaybe absorbedandmaycause serious
side effects.Stopusingthisproductandtell yourdoctorrightaway if any of these rare but serious
side effectsoccur:aching/swollenjoints,rashonnose andcheeks,signsof infection(suchasfever,
persistentsore throat),signsof anemia(suchasunusual tiredness/weakness,rapidbreathing,fast
heartbeat),unusual bleeding/bruising,signsof liverproblems(suchasdark urine,yellowing
eyes/skin,stomach/abdominal pain,persistentnausea,vomiting),mouthsores.
A veryseriousallergicreactiontothisdrugis rare.However,seekimmediate medical attentionif
younotice any symptomsof a seriousallergicreaction,including:rash,itching/swelling(especiallyof
the face/tongue/throat),severedizziness,trouble breathing.

Interactions
