2. In the previous chapter we already discussed regarding 5
varieties of Parada and as per RRS reference it is known
that 2 varieties namely Rasa & Rasendra were not available
during at that time(13th Century AD) also, as after gaining
Rasayana & AJARA AMARA properties the NAGA & DEVA
filled the mines by mud and stones to prevent any further
use by human/ other species and achieve AJARATA or
AMARATA.
Remaining 3 varieties SUTA (दोषयुक्तश्च सूतकः),PARADA
& Mishraka are DOSHA YUKTA or having some unwanted
harmful properties hence sodhana and Sanskara was
recommended.

3. Parada Dosha
In the current era Mercury and mercurial products are
considered as poisonous after development of our
knowledge of chemistry, Pysiology etc.
The scientists must have learnt it after extensive
research or by trail and error.
Such harmful properties are known as Dosha , these
harmful effect of Parada was very well known to our
ancient Scholars so that they elaborately described
their nature.

4. Number & Types Of Parada Dosha
द्वादिैते रसे दोषाः प्रोक्ता रसवविरदैः ॥ ररस ११/२०
According to RRS total number of Dosha are 12 in
number and can be classified in to 3 types, they are
1. नैसर्गिक दोष-: Natural blemishes - 3 in no
2. यौर्गक दोष-: Compounded blemishes-2 in no
3. औपार्िक दोष-: 7 in noumber
Apart from these 12 Dosha another 8 types of Maha
Dosha also described by Acharya Madhava in
Ayurveda Praksha

5. Correlation
According to modern chemistry the Mercury is said to
contain the impurities like Tin, Lead, Bismuth,
Copper, Zinc etc. Besides these it also contain the
suspended impurities. The dry air has no action on
mercury . However in the presence of moist air the
mercury tarnishes to form the oxides.
Since the mercury is obtained from the mines the
contamination with the associated materials will lead
to the NAISARGIKA and YOUGIKA DOSHAS whereas
the suspended and oxidized layers of mercury will
contribute to KAMCHUKA DOSHAs.

Those blemishes which are Natural in origin from the
source , even though mercury is devoid of any
impurities.
According to many scholars नैसर्गिक दोष are considered
as inherent properties, so they are called as natural

7. नैसर्गिक दोष types
नैसर्गिक दोष is again subdivided in to 3 types.
After consumption following symptoms can be seen
hence one could confirms these harmful properties or
Dosha in mercury
1. ववष produces र्रि or death
2. वन्हह produces सहताप or burning sensation
3. र्ल produces र्ूर्च्ाि or Fainting

8. Death due to ववष दोष
According to some scholars ववष दोष may be seen after
mixing with Arsenic or Antimony, lead etc compounds in
the mercury mineral.
Greater doses of methyl mercury may result in sensory
disturbances, deafness, blurred vision, decreased
peripheral vision, speech difficulties, motor skill problems,
and an impaired level of consciousness. Lethal doses of
methyl mercury result in paralysis and death. The
estimated lethal dose of methyl mercury for a 70 kg (154 lb)
person ranges from 20 to 60 mg per kilogram of body
weight.

9. Burning sensation due to वन्हह दोष
वन्हह दोष may be considered as the impurities acquired
due to excessive heat from volcano region and it may
produce harmful effect to the body by producing
burning sensation or warmth.
Neuropsychiatric Problems From Mercury Poisoning:
Burning sensation in the limbs, paroxysmal muscle
fasciculation.

10. Fainting due to र्ल दोष
Greater doses of methyl mercury may result in sensory
disturbances, deafness, blurred vision, decreased
peripheral vision, speech difficulties, motor skill
problems, and an impaired level of consciousness
or Fainting.

11. According to some other authors small doses will
produce fainting, slightly moderate dose will produce
burning sensation and in case of large dose or lethal
dose will certainly cause death

12. नैसर्गिक दोष-आहदकहद
15 types of Naisargika dosha can be found in
Anandkanda ,they are
1.Parthiva 2.Jala 3.Agneya
4.Vayu 5.Nabhasa 6.Gajacharma
7.Pundarika 8.Visarpakrita 9.Haridra
10.Raktacharma 11.Naranga 12.Raktabinduka
