1. Artículos y “Expertos”
Every Monday (almost), every student will bring in an article on a topic of their choice that goes with
our current core area of study. The article must be in Spanish and come from a current news source.
Before class, the student will need to read the article and handwrite in Spanish the following
information (You must use the format below, lettering each part a-d. Part d should be the longest as it
is an evaluation/your opinion):
a. The title of the article, the month and year of the edition of the magazine, and what
page(s) it’s found on (or just attach the article to your paper).
b. 1-2 sentences stating why you chose to read that article in particular.
c. A BRIEF synopsis of the article in your own words (do NOT simply rewrite parts of the
article.) 5 sentences MINIMUM in Spanish, of course.
d. What you thought about the article (Did you like it- why? or why not? Do you agree with
what it said, what part interested you the most, etc.) Give specific examples! Justify
your thoughts and opinions! Think IB! This should be the longest part, at least a good
7-8 sent. paragraph. This will be the main part that you will be discussing with your
group in class.
e. What did you learn from the articles in your group? Do NOT just write down the titles of
the articles. Do NOT write down exactly what a person said. (Listen, take a few notes and
after everyone has discussed you will be given 5-10 min. to write in your own words
what you found interesting, new, confusing, etc.)
In class, each student will be the “expert” on their topic/article, and will share this information in small
groups. Groups will discuss in Spanish for at least 10-15 minutes. NO WRITING may be done at this
time. Points will be deducted for those simply copying down what another group member says. Then,
for 5-10 minutes, each student will write what they have learned from the other experts in their group.
The papers will be turned in for a grade.
*Grading will be based on whether or not the writing is meaningful, and if it’s in Spanish. No
points will be deducted for incorrect Spanish unless it just does not make ANY sense or if the
teacher feels the student has used a translator. This is a chance to simply write! Do your best to
spell correctly, include accents and use correct verb conjugations. Do not try to translate from
English to Spanish, simply use Spanish that you already know or new words that you gained from
the article.
**Please make sure the article/topic you choose is completely suitable for school. “If there is any
doubt, do without.”…and choose something else!
Dates due- If you are absent, you MUST email Ms. Vargas beforehand with your article info. and turn
it in the next day (or when you return).
