One memorable partnership of the Junior Chamber International Philippines chapter held in the year of 2005—predictably a busy year for the new National Board of Directors, led by National President Dennis Cunanan—was that with past and current telecom giant Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, enacted in March of that year, for “The Outstanding Young Men” project.
Fresh from the 2004 election, Dennis Cunanan and his team, among them JCI Senator Mabel P. Villarica-Mamba and TOYM Executive Director and JCI Senator Hilario G. Cruz II, met with Mr. Menardo G. Jimenez Jr., Head of the Retail Division of the PLDT Business Group, for the purpose of approving and signing of a Memorandum of Agreement for partnership endeavors in the TOYM search phase.
In the specific terms of agreement, JCI and PLDT agreed for JCI to benefit from a contribution of PHP400,000 in cash; food and the venue for both the Screening and Judging Committee Meetings as necessary; the production of promotional materials through posters and radio and television advertisements; and official press releases and publicity. In return, JCI agreed to fully implement and organize the TOYM event, publicizing PLDT in all TOYM promotional materials both in broadcast and in print, as well as in official posters and brochures.

The Road to 2005’s Outstanding Achievements:A Partnership between JCI and PLDT
1. The Road to 2005’s Outstanding
Achievements: a Partnership between
JCI and PLDT
One memorable partnership of the
Junior Chamber International
Philippines chapter held in the year
of 2005—predictably a busy year for
the new National Board of
Directors, led by National
President Dennis Cunanan—was
that with past and current telecom
giant Philippine Long Distance
Telephone Company, enacted in
March of that year, for “The Outstanding Young Men” project.
Fresh from the 2004 election, Dennis Cunanan and his team, among them
JCI Senator Mabel P. Villarica-Mamba and TOYM Executive Director and
JCI Senator Hilario G. Cruz II, met with Mr. Menardo G. Jimenez Jr., Head
of the Retail Division of the PLDT Business Group, for the purpose of
approving and signing of a Memorandum of Agreement for partnership
endeavors in the TOYM search phase.

2. Mr. Menardo “Butch” G. Jimenez Jr. is himself an awardee for the TOYM
competition of 1998, for the Broadcast Communications Division. JCI
Senator Mabel P. VillaricaMamba was the former National President of JCI Philippines in 2002 and
was 2005’s TOYM Search Chairman.
The TOYM Awards have been enacted since 1959. Prestigious awards are
given to constituent JCI members, or Philippine Jaycees (aged 18 to 40
years old), who have been outstanding in their respective fields—centered
in community development and welfare—and who have thus lived JCI’s
mission and values of faith in God, the brotherhood man transcending the
sovereignty of nations, economic justice through free enterprise, upholding
the law, the development of human personality, and service to humanity. In
this respect, a number of young men and women (as the award is not
gender-exclusive) have arisen as inspirations to other young and upcoming
Filipino leaders, and role models of the Jaycee Creed.
Junior Chamber International Philippines is the national chapter of JCI, a
non-profit organization driven by Young Active Citizens Creating Positive
Change. JCI is the oldest and most premier leadership development
organization in Asia, from its founding in 1947. Its members are fondly
called ‘The Philippine Jaycees’.
As of this time, JCI has expanded to more than 100 countries all over the
world, in 5000 communities, and holding a 200,000-strong base of
members aged 18-40—with more than 6000 young professionals and
entrepreneurs from 200 communities in the Philippines alone, in solidarity
with the rest of the organization for furthering a goal of global impact of
positive change, specifically through entrepreneurship and training.
