to share an update regarding Zeta Eta Chapter at the University of California, Irvine.
As you may know, in April 2013, Fraternity Council voted to suspend operations of Zeta Eta
Chapter effective June 2013. For several years, members of Zeta Eta Chapter found it challenging to
maintain competitive recruitment numbers with other Greek–letter women's organizations on
campus. Ultimately, Fraternity Council determined the university–owned chapter facility would
have to be relinquished in fall 2013 due to insufficient residency numbers.

A significant body of research has been developed in political science to demonstrate that the
presence of women in political office changes the substance and process of policymaking and
politics. From the state to the national level, women elected officials have expanded the scope of the

know that at the state level women legislators work more on women's policy concerns than their

In an effort to increase the representation of women in political spheres and to facilitate women's
access to parliaments, some sub–Saharan African countries have adopted gender quotas. Though the
use of gender quotas has been widely debated in the scholastic community, it has secured women's
positions of power in post–conflict societies (Gouws, 2008). An example of such society can be
found in Rwanda. In response to the civil war and genocide that plagued Rwanda in the past, a
constitution was created in 2003 that imposed gender quotas in all forms of government, requiring a

Gender quotas have changed the way Rwandans perceive women in positions of political power and

Although the United Kingdom was not the first European country to grant women's suffrage, the
movement was much more successful than those in other nations. The supporters of the movement
formed the National Union of Women's Suffrage and hoped to show that women could be
