Some information over Lewis and Clark's expedition, is that it was the first American expedition to travel the western part of the United States.
Around 1803, after the Louisiana purchase, a captain and his friend were commissioned to explore the United States's untouched by white man's land.
They had to keep journals and records of the things that they discovered and how to land was. Their goal was to say that the Americans have been
there before the Britain and European powers attempted to claim the land.

Personal Narrative: The Clark Expedition
Meriwether Lewis asked William Clark and I to join him on an expedition into the unknown. We had to go west and explore the Louisiana territory that
Thomas Jefferson, our 3rd president, had bought to expand the United States. This expedition will be the greatest change in history and I got to
experience it. Traveling for 8,000 miles in two–in a half years only having one job; explore the new area and come back alive. Not getting a specimen
of a lady slipper flower was a mistake from Clark. I told him numerous times that he should have collected some, but he thought that it wasn't a new
flower. With this in mind, we weren't along the pacific coast anymore, so once he got home, he regretted not collecting the flower. At the same
time, seeing some of the strangest animals was one of the best sights. We saw something called a Mountain Lion in the Great Plains and in the Milk
and Musselshell Rivers. Sadly, one was shot, but yet it still lived and escaped. In return for being shot, another one stole three of our deer skins from
camp. Good thing it didn't get anything or anyone else. Not to mention the Gate of the Rocky Mountains, located at S. 25В° E. The yellowish brown

One of the more interesting ones was the Hidatsa. Their homes were earth lodges that had a wooden domed mound built over the top. Most of the
homes were built near their fields to look over the Missouri River. We are very grateful we met with this tribe based off the fact that they were the

negotiating skills, knowledge of medical herbs, and knowledge of the terrain. She settled tensions between the explorers and Native Americans

They left from St. Charles, Missouri and began the expedition on May 21, 1804. They were called The Corps of Discovery. It took them two years,
four months, and ten days to travel from St. Louis to the Pacific Ocean and back home again. This was one of the biggest discoveries that has ever

They traveled in three boats. One which was a keelboat with only one sail which was known for the cabin in the middle, but it also took 22 men to
Dow the boat. The other two types of boats were called pirogues. They were a lot smaller than the keelboat and only needed six oars to be used.

Ledyard decided to travel across Siberia to the western coast of North America. Even though this was not a very good plan for exploring the West,

helped the United States advance in science, land as well as gaining many valuable resources. The Lewis and Clark expedition is also an amazing
American story. Lewis and Clark went through extraordinary situations to expedite Americas growth and science. They accomplished this expedition
with strenuous encounters with the Native Americans.The importance of the Lewis and Clark expedition is derived by the challenges they faced, the
encounters they had with Western Indians, and the knowledge gained about the Louisiana territory. The question arises of why Thomas Jefferson
commenced the great expedition of Lewis and Clark. " Jefferson wanted to form an expedition that were able to gather valuable information about
Western Indians while living at peace with them" (Ronda 1). This was important because the people that were going to move into the Louisiana

Along with their path, there were many Native Americans and Indian groups that they came upon. Lewis and Clark came about the decision to
