Dan Buettner Blue Zones
Dan Buettner's "How To Live To 100+" is a TED talk that explores three of the world's "Blue
Zones". According to Gulli (2008), Blue Zones "are places where people have the lengthiest
lifespans". Of the many Blue Zones in the world, Buettner closely investigated Sardinia, an island
off the coast of Italy; Okinawa, an archipelago south of Tokyo; and Loma Linda, an area in
California containing the Seventh–Day Adventists. During his talk, Buettner (2009) acknowledged
that "Only about 10 percent of how long the average person lives, within certain biological limits, is
dictated by our genes. The other 90 percent is dictated by our lifestyle." The research he presents
throughout his talk seems to prove this as most centenarians in the blue zones mentioned above have

If people took a little more caution when choosing friends, they could undoubtedly add more years
to their lives. Conclusion The ability to reach a three–digit age is easier to obtain than citizens in my
community may think. Most people my age think that you'll live a long and healthy life if you take
part in intense physical activity while having a diet containing lots of protein. However, they're not
doing anything to increase their chances of longevity. If everyday millennials wanted to decrease
their mortality, they could lessen their intake of meat and involve themselves in continual easy
exercise. On the other hand, when it comes to the social life of many millennials, we see that they
have a great number of friends around them, but a majority of them aren't good influences. With
better influences the life span of those in my community could be impacted greatly. The key factors
of longevity that can effortlessly be integrated into my life are constant physical activity, good
eating habits, and healthy social

The National Spelling Of America Essay
Every year, millions of students, no older than in eighth grade, compete in local level spelling bees
with hopes of making it to the ultimate spelling competition, the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Held at the end of May or beginning of June each year, millions of spectators around the world
watch the bee, which is held just outside Washington, DC. The Scripps National Spelling Bee, while
a fantastic educational experience, both for learning the ins and outs of the English language and for
learning about the history of America, is in dire need of reform. I propose to you, the executives of
the E.W. Scripps Company, that the Scripps National Spelling Bee reform the competition by
determining the number of spellers from each state in a way that is proportional to the state's
population, standardizing the difficulty of bees prior to the national level, and decreasing the value
of points earned from the new addition of vocabulary. While spellers competing at the national level
follow various paths to earn their coveted spots, people from certain geographic areas have a
tremendously easier path than others. This difficult discrepancy is largely based on the number of
spellers that each specific state allows to progress to the national level each year. In the 2016
Scripps National Spelling Bee, sixteen states, including Hawaii, Mississippi, and Nevada, sent only
one speller from the entire state, while states such as Ohio and California sent nineteen and
seventeen respectively

Colony Collapse Disorder
The Buzz on Colony Collapse Disorder Denise Collins According to the National Geographic News
website, the domestic honey bee population has decreased 50% in as many years (Roach, 2004).
Many reasons are blamed for the decrease in honey bee numbers including diseases and pesticides.
Scientists have given the decline in honey bee population phenomenon a name, Colony Collapse
Disorder. While some experts maintain that Colony Collapse Disorder is a nuisance and not a
catastrophe, it is a serious problem affecting domestic honey bees worldwide. Colony Collapse
Disorder is a phenomenon affecting domestic and wild honey bee colonies worldwide. Basically
what is happening is worker bees are leaving the hive and not coming back but ... Show more

Spanish researchers have recently announced they have found the cause of Colony Collapse
Disorder. The scientists are suggesting that the honey bees are being attacked by a fungus called
Nosema ceranae. Through further testing of infected hives, the researchers may have also found a
cure. Simply enough, an antibiotic has been found to be effective in curing the colony (Ford, 2009).
I believe that more research needs to be done to further evaluate the Colony Collapse Disorder. We
need to make sure that all possible causes have been checked and rechecked. There could be more
than one cause to the devastating disorder. There could also be more than one remedy to the
problem. The first item that needs to be completed is do extensive study of the both the wild and
domesticated honey bee. This study of both types is to be done to see why commercial honey bee
colonies are affected more often than wild hives. A healthy hive needs to be quarantined for the
control. When a colony is suspected of being on the verge of collapsing, miniature transponders will
be attached to worker bees to track its movements. Every aspect of the honey bees' life needs to be
studied and documented. The first sign of a colony in danger of collapse needs to be documented.
When a remedy is found it can be treated as soon as possible. This step needs to be completed as
quickly as possible before it becomes critical. I am estimating

Throughout my life, I have had an insatiable curiosity about the world and the way it works. This
thirst for knowledge about the earth has driven me to participate in various activities and take many

"real–world" experience in the field, and could potentially allow me to decide what I want to do for
a major and a career. This is important to me considering the fact that I am undecided on what I

National Geographic Society And Nationalism Summary
National Geographic is known as a reputable source for the latest in geography and exploration.
Established in 1888 by Gardiner Greene Hubbard, it was later taken on by his son–in–law,
Alexander Graham Bell and eventually by Bell's son–in–law Gilbert Hovey Grosvenor. In Lisa
Bloom's article, "National Geographic Society and Nationalism," she details how the magazine
writes about other cultures, doing so in a nationalistic manner. She explains the elite vibe that the
magazine gives off, through its writing and stylistic choices. And, she discusses the contempt and
disrespect that the magazine uses in discussing women and in glorifying nudity of women ––
women that are not white and not American. By viewing photographs, their captions, and
descriptions from the October, 1913 edition of National Geographic Magazine, Bloom's argument
can be further justified. Through word choice, and the images that are shown, National Geographic
Magazine gives credence to the beliefs that American and Western society are superior to others
around the world, and that it is alright to glorify a person's beauty and to talk ill of a person's
appearance, particularly women. The October, 1913 edition of National Geographic depicts the lives
of individuals living in Romania, the Caucasus, and the Philippines. The practices, traditions, and
clothing of the people living in these regions are frequently referenced. Sadly, these cultures are
judged and looked at in a negative light in the

Tourism Effects on Machu Picchu
High in the Andean mountain range, nestled on a ridge between two mountains high above the
valley floor below sits the amazing city and archaeological site of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is
about 1400 kilometers south of the Equator on the eastern slope of the Peruvian Andes. The site lies
near the head waters of the Amazon River and is on the ridge between two prominent mountain
peaks – Machu Picchu and Hauyna Picchu – about 500 meters above the valley bottom (Wright
and Kenneth, 2–3). Machu Picchu, believed to be the royal estate of the Inca ruler Pachacuti, is the
most well–known of all the Inca archaeological sites. Professor Hiram Bingham discovered the site
in July of 1911 and excavated it with the help of National Geographic and ... Show more content on

There is also the impending problem that with the increase of tourism in Machu Picchu there will
also be an increase in the crowding and congestion on the roads, footpaths, and in the narrow streets
of the site. In addition, tourists also compete with residents for available services and facilities (a
prime example of this is the local train service in Peru, in which many backpackers tend to use the
local train service rather than the much more "luxurious" and expensive tourist train). An increase in
visitors to the area will also lead to an increase in the crime in the area. Finally, a big
social/community impact from tourism has been the desecration of burial sites and the removal and
display of human remains from Machu Picchu to further stimulate the tourist industry, which has
ultimately led to the destruction of the Indian spiritual heritage. (Barcelona Field Studies Centre
S.L., Machu Picchu: Impact of Tourism) Environmental Costs and Benefits The environmental costs
to increased tourism to Machu Picchu out number the benefits in many ways. Environmentally,
tourism does help to facilitate increased awareness of the need for conservation and preservation of
natural, cultural, and historical resources. Machu Picchu could also be considered a clean industry,
but that might be asking a lot when one looks at

How Does The Honey Bee Affect Our Society
The Apis Mellifera, or honey bee, have survived on this planet for fifty million years. This species
of bee is responsible for pollinating flowers, grass, trees and crops around the world. Much of the
food we eat is dependent on honey bees for pollination. Our ecosystem depends on the survival of
the honey bee. Colonies of honeybees have been disappearing at an alarming rate around the world
due to parasites, viral and bacterial diseases, and the introduction of pesticides and herbicides. Over
the past six years, on average, 30 percent of all the honey bee colonies in the U.S. died off over the
winter of 2012(NPR/TED). If this trend continues to spiral downward, honey bees will disappear
from the world. We must understand the importance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The honey bee has a strategic value in our economy because of its pollination of so many different
crops. One Cornell University study estimated that honey bees annually pollinate $14 billion worth
of seeds and crops in the U.S. The chart on the left demonstrates the economic impact the honeybee
has on agriculture. In California, beekeepers use a total of 1.4 million colonies of honey bees to
pollinate every almond tree. If losses of honey bee colonies continue, it could threaten the economic
viability of not only the bee pollinating industry, but the agriculture industry as well. Essentially, if
honey bees disappear, the destruction of our ecosystem will start with insect pollinated plants. We
wouldn't starve without these pollinators, but much of the healthy foods we eat will vanish. The
regular gardener also benefits from having the honey bee around their flowers. It is estimated that
nearly half of all American households have some type of garden. Bees play an important role in the
pollination of our local flowers. Water and sunlight are not enough to keep a garden looking pristine
and beautiful. Without honeybees to pollinate our gardens, fruit trees produce less fruit, flowers die
off earlier in the season, and crops are misshapen and small. By stating the importance the honey
bee has on the ecosystem, economy, and our own gardens, scientists are now trying to understand
why the population of the honey bee has decreased at an alarming rate.

National Geographic Society ( Ngs )
National Geographic Society (NGS) was founded in 1888, and remains one of the largest non–profit
educational and scientific institutions in the world. In its 128 years, the organization has evolved
considerably, adapting to an expanding customer base, unpredictable economic environments, and
inevitable digital convergence. In order to remain aligned with its financial goals, the organizational
structure and mission statement of NGS have changed, and continue to do so, considering the
creation of a new position: VP of e–commerce. Examining the current structure of NGS through the

NGS's structure also passes the Parenting Advantage Test (2) in some scenarios. The senior
management does a good job of communicating the firm's strategy on a regular basis, creates task
forces comprising of leaders from all groups and facilitates input from the entire organization
through employee attitude surveys.
Although NGS's unique content and sound leadership have led to its previous success, new
developments in the digital space have surfaced cultural and structural deficiencies. One of the main
weaknesses is a lack of coordination. This weakness is the Achilles' heel of the organization, and
proves its detriment when applying the Market Advantage, Parenting Advantage, People, Difficult–
Links, and Flexibility Tests (1, 2, 3, 6 and 9 respectively). Looking at the Market Advantage Test, it
appears that there is sufficient management in place to oversee each of the market segments that
NGS competes in; however, there is poor communication across the groups, making it difficult to
collaborate and maximize the profitability of each. Similarly, when administering the Parenting
Advantage and Difficult–Links Tests, it is clear that Link and Leverage Propositions are not used by
NGS. The current organization fails to coordinate the efforts of each unit, and therefore cannot
leverage the strengths of each, without potentially diminishing the efforts of the others. According to
the case, "Low awareness of initiatives and projects led to overlaps, brand

The Problem Essay
Position Statement
The key managerial problem which John Fahey is facing is to decide as to whom the e–commerce
head should report, in the current organizational structure of NGS, so that the new position gives
him enough freedom to leverage the growth opportunities of the e–commerce platform efficiently.
How much span of control for the new head is required to cope with declining print media sales and
build the right balance between allocating investments and revenue allocations across different
product units of the organisation? He should also have enough exposure to build strong customer
relationships and brand loyalty by improving the membership program using e–commerce.
Diagnosis

He should also take care of allocating the cost of this content generation and their respective
revenue streams across divisions.
Decision Options and Analysis
Option 1: The new head should report to Tim Kelly, president and CEO of Global Media Group.
This will give him tight control over different media units like the NGM, the book publishing,
television etc. and help in building brand value by providing a meaningful and engaging experience
to customers which is aligned to the latest mission i.e. "to inspire people to care about the planet".
The downside of this option is he will have little exposure with researchers, writers and explorers.
Also the allocation of funds to expensive mission programs will still remain a problem as it requires
close coordination with Enterprise group.
Option 2: The new head reports to Linda Berkley, the head of Enterprise Group. Reporting to Linda
will help him better manage the funding of mission programs and also help him channel the revenue
to different product units in a way which will help the overall mission of the society. The downside
will be less coordination between the different media channels, poor decisions on topic selection as
each channel will try to maximize its profit diluting the brand as a whole. Customer experience will
continue to be dispersed resulting in failure to engage them and bring back the old membership

Informative Essay On Honey Bees
Honey bees are an important creature to human life. They are said to be responsible for one out of
every three bites of food we eat (Michigan State University, 2018). They balance the ecosystem.
There is only one generation of bees produced each year. Bees have many roles other than just
producing honey. Bees pollinate one third of the crops and average diet in the United States of
America. They also pollinate approximately 100 flowering crops. These flowering food crops
consist of apples, avocados, asparagus, squash, cucumbers, citrus fruits, kiwi, blueberries,
strawberries, melons, etc. Also, with the loss of honeybees, the almond production in California will
vanish. "It has often been said that bees are responsible for one out of every ... Show more content

The Lassa Ward
Due to my interest in medicine, I chose to read The Lassa Ward: One Man's Fight Against One of
the World's Deadliest Diseases for the AP Human Geography summer assignment. The Lassa Ward
is authored by Ross I. Donaldson, who is a physician specializing in public health and tropical

Donaldson's memoir focuses on how he treated Lassa cases in Sierra Leone, in the midst of an

I enjoyed reading this novel due to the descriptive passages relating to culture and the captivating
nature of the author's main focus. All things considered, the only way The Lassa Ward could be
more informative was if all the action was taken away and it became strictly non–fiction. One
connection that I can form between the novel and my own life is the reaction and feelings that Ross
encountered after being left alone in the Lassa ward when Dr. Conteh departed. I, too, have felt the
same emotions the first time that I ran the A/V equipment at church all alone. I was slightly excited,
slightly concerned, and very anxious– just like what I can assume Ross felt. Now, my experience is
not of the same caliber as Dr. Donaldson's endeavor running the Lassa ward; however, we both
faced the same feelings regarding being unaccompanied for the first time. Another connection that I
can produce between the novel and my own experiences is that both Ross and I have both

Caribbean islands on a cruise, and I was surprised, similarly to Ross, to find some unusual building

The Common Octopus-Stereotypes
The Common Octopus Upon hearing the word "Octopus" what initial thoughts arise? A deadly sea
creature hundreds of feet tall mounting its eight tentacles across an infatuating, yet intriguing ship,
and then ultimately crushing its sailors into the mile–driven sea? Or, in many cases, one pictures a
bulging brain and eight tentacles mounting itself onto an innocent prey and indifferently, engulfing
until destruction. Yikes, how graphic! Suitably, thanks to modern technology, many of these
perceptions have been distorted by a conclusive, yet ambiguous hypothesis– octopuses are deadly.
Inconclusively, the nature of the octopus – Octopus vulgaris – is an extremely inquisitive and
mitigated species. Animals such as these, as one would presume, are mollusks, an animal without a
bone structure, but with relation to the indigenous clam species. With use of such contortion, hiding

The travel industry has grown increasingly competitive as many large companies have begun to

part of National Geographic Traveler magazine (October/November 2017 edition), National
Geographic promotes its "Unique Lodges of the World" program by presenting a carefully taken

constant feeling of being watched. However, the natural elements are not enough to justify that
having a vacation many miles away from home will be any less stressful. Accordingly, National
Geographic incorporates a large blue pool and a simple wooden cabin to guarantee that its lodges
provide sufficient levels of amenity. The cleanliness of both elements implies that, despite being
highly secluded, the lodges provide adequate hygiene. More generally, the obvious maintenance of
the lodge elicits a feeling of comfort by ensuring that it will have little to no problems when

Controversy: The Founder Of The North Pole
"We were the only pulsating creatures in a dead world of ice." This is a quote from famous North
Pole explorer Frederick Albert Cook. He, along with explorer Robert Edwin Peary, are well known
as the founders of the North Pole. However, nobody knows who the actual founder is. The
controversy on who was the first to make it there is an ongoing one, with both explorers claiming to
have made it there first. Cook claimed that he had made it a year earlier than Peary, but the
argument can go both ways. With evidence supporting both sides, the conflict can go on and on.
While both have well detailed journals, some believe that the necessary information is absent, which
makes finding a solution difficult. Although resolving a founder for an area should be an easy task,
the founder of the North Pole is a mystery we may never fully resolve. When a major landform is
discovered, it often sparks vast reactions from people worldwide. Some people get extremely
excited about the idea of new land to settle and raise families on. This was the case when Columbus
discovered the Americas. The idea of a whole new continent to settle was very enticing to settlers

Three Arguments Of Support Of Peary's Claim
In both set of materials, the reading presents three argument of support of the Peary's claim;
however, the lecturer finds what ever the author says in his description is unconvincing and has no
solid evidence.
First, the speaker acknowledges that the National Geographic Society's committee was set up to
investigate; the speaker also points out that the members of this committee were composed of
Peary's close friends. Furthermore, the speaker mentions that the committee members funded the
Peary's journey and the duration of the committee was just two days which was not enough for
investigation. Therefore, the report by the committee was biased and not true. This challenges the
reading's claim that the National Geographic Society's committee

Geography Of Ancient China
This investigation attempts to answer the question how the geography of ancient Japan and China
are similar as well as different. The question is important because some people might assume that
the geography of Japan and China is very similar while it in fact isn't. The issues that will be
addressed are how these two countries geography affected them by factors such as natural defense
systems, trading, and food sources within each culture. This investigation will focus on the time
period of 250–710 BCE and the places included will be China and Japan. This will be accomplished
through a thorough examination using such texts as The National Geographic society's Journey Into
China as well as Jonathan Fenby's China's Imperial Dynasties.

because these are geography facts, and therefore are able to hold true to any facts stated for a longer

Third World Cultures: Lutz Vs. Collins
For many people around the world, National Geographic, a mass circulated magazine, has occupied
much of our time as we sat in lobbies and waiting rooms or as we cut out pictures to make a collage

National Geographic by Catherine A Lutz and Jane L Collins look inside the National Geographic
Society to examine how its photographers, writers, and designers select images and text to create
representations of Third World cultures. The authors also explore the possibility that National
Geographic may shed more light on our own cultures than the one depicted in this magazine. This

Two Different Types Of Bees Essay
When people think about bees, the first things that come to mind are small, black and yellow insects
with occasional unfortunate encounters of being stung by one. Bees are small, oval shaped insects
with yellow and black stripes. There are many types of bees, but the most common species bees are
honeybees and bumble bees. Although most of human kind considers bees as unnecessary and
irrelevant, they play an important role in our ecosystem. Like any other insect, the anatomy of a bee
consists of a head, antennae, and a thorax. The head is where the eyes, antennae, and the jaw are
located. According to an article written by pesticide company Orkin, bees have two types of eyes,
the compound and simple eyes. The compound eye is larger and allows the bees to "understand
light, color, and direction information from UV rays". The simple eye determines how much light is
present in their surroundings. The antennae located on the top of the bees' heads allow them to smell
and know how fast they are flying. When feeling threatened, worker bees and queen bees will use
their stingers. The thorax is where the wings, legs, and muscles of the bees are located. Two types ...

Frankenstein Science fact or Science fiction?
In Frankenstein, the technological parallels of Victor Frankenstein's lab and 21st–century science
resemble the use of Organ Transplants, the use of artificial body parts, and the use of stem cell on
people. The use of Organ Transplant, stem cells, and artificial body parts could be the way to extend
the life of people even the way to create immortality. In Frankenstein it is never said if the monster
ever died there for the readers are left to think that Victor has created immortality. Shelly explains
how the monster came to life."I collected the instruments around me, might infuse a spark of being
into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet " (Shelley 47). He uses dead body parts to make his
monster. Victor used a macabre way of organ transplant that involved grave robbing and sowing
these rotting corpse parts together to form a "living" being.
In modern day Organ Transplants, they are used to save people by taking organs from living and
dead people to save the lives of the living. In the United States of America, the number of people
waiting to receive an organ is more than 120,000 people. Of those 120,000 people, thousands die
before ever finding a donor that could save their lives. Just one donor could save up to eight lives,
for the person receiving the organ, this means a second chance and even a better quality of life. "For
some, an organ transplant means no longer having

College Admissions Essay: Reflecting On My Life
Reflecting on my childhood, I always had a vivid imagination. I loved telling stories to anyone who
would listen. As I grew older, I began writing poetry and I became obsessed with movies. Over the
years, I realized that I wanted to travel to some of the places I had seen in the various movies but my
thoughts of what I wanted to remain indifferent. In high school, I became interested in a career in
the communication field when the Broadcast Media teacher exposed the class to the various
opportunities and careers available in Radio, Cinema and Television and shared stories about his
life, career, and travels. After careful consideration and research on who had the best
Communication programs of Alabama colleges, I finally made my decision to attend the University
of South Alabama and to major in Communication with a Major Concentration in Digital Cinema
and Television and minor in Sociology. For the first two years of college, I was busy adjusting to a
new city, college classes, and dorm life and working two jobs. But something changed at the

The Importance Of Geographic Literacy
Geography, it's not just maps and knowing about landforms. Geography is about a who, what,
where, why and how. It raises awareness of things around the world and provides information about
understanding conflicts and solving them. (Murray, Dr. Matthew) Dr. Edelson points out that,
"While the impacts of any particular far–reaching decision may be small, the cumulative impact of
the decisions made by millions of people are enormous." ("What is Geo–literacy?" 2012)
Geography is something all citizens should know about, everyone should be aware of what is
happening around them. The main focus of teaching students how to be geoliterate is so they will
know the consequences resulting from basic decisions. As the curriculum continues to change in
schools throughout the nation, geography has become nonexistent within the classroom. Besides the
basic geographical features, like landforms and oceans, most of this generation knows nothing about
geography. Even sometimes these simple concepts are unreachable for students and many young
adults making them geo–illiterate.
Geographic Literacy, as described by Dr. Daniel C. Edelson, has three key concepts; understanding
human and natural systems, geographic reasoning and systematic decision making. He describes a
geo–literate student as not only one who understands geography, but one who understands that the
Earth is interconnected and the decisions we make over our lifetime have long–lasting effects. They
should also able to comprehend that the relationship between human systems and their interactions
and the impact it puts on our environment. (2012) Another way to describe Geographic Literacy
would mean to be "better equipped to better understand the complexity of the world, how our
decisions affect others, and the interconnectedness of this rich, diverse, and not–so–large world." It
means that one should know what the effects are of the decisions we make daily. (Baskerville,
Brian) Regardless of if the decision is where to live or
Herring 2 how to prepare for natural disasters, everyone makes decisions throughout their lifetime
that requires geo–literacy. ("What is Geo–Literacy?") Whether these decisions are riding a bike or
driving a car, using plastic bags versus

In Samuel Beckett's 'The Winning Edge:' The Success Of Work?
Samuel Beckett, author of the novel "Worstword Ho" once said, "All of old. Nothing else. Ever
tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better." His depiction of working hard and
trying time after time continues to be a habit that individuals live by everyday. The author of "The
Winning Edge," Peter Doskoch, highlights the need for perseverance, grit, and determination in
one's life such that being reliant solely on talent will not get anyone anywhere. Doskoch discusses
various ways as to how certain work ethics can allow anyone to be successful in life and how
starting to work hard from a young ages does eventually pay off. His perspective on being
successful can be applied to various aspects of life, such as business, personal goals, and operating
large systems of branches. For example, Doskoch's ideas can be applied to the American Education
system. Being a system that tends to be biased towards acknowledging student's talents and not so
much on their intelligence and perseverance towards their educational careers, I believe that the
American Education system should start teaching habits on developing perseverance skills and
honor those who show grit and determination. With these skills, students will grow into successful
individuals, they will understand the need to work hard in life, and will have a more positive
outlook on the life ahead of them. The sooner students are taught perseverance skills, the sooner
they will be prepared for the life ahead of

Relationship Between Henson And Peary
Matthew Henson and Robert Peary had a strong relationship. They both had a need for exploration,
fame, and danger, and Henson's need is one of the reasons he started traveling with Peary. The two
men met when Henson was working at a clothing and hat store, when Peary walked in and offered
him a job. This job was to be his personal servant while he was on an expedition in Nicaragua.
Peary was going to head an engineering team to see about the possibility of digging a canal across
Nicaragua. Henson later wrote that he saw qualities in Peary that made him want to participate in his
services. After that expedition, Peary approached Henson with an idea. He wanted to raise money to

Domain/Curricular Structure: Writers workshop: Introducing your writing topic
Goal/Concepts to be explored:
I want the students to understand different strategies that authors use to introduce a topic. Ex.
Surprise the reader, quotes somebody, ask a question
I want the students to be able to construct their own introduction to a topic based on the animal they
have been researching.
Objectives/Indicators:
Standard 2: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and
information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of
content. o 1.Write informative/explanatory texts that:
a. introduce a topic and group related information together;
b. use information from multiple print and multimedia sources;
c. include illustrations to aid comprehension;
Content/Rationale:
I chose this lesson because these students have been working on researching animals that they have
each selected. They will soon be creating a mini–booklet about their individual animal. From what I
have observed with this group of students is that they generally have a hard time getting started on
their writing, so I want to use this lesson to focus on different ways to grab the readers' attention.

Analyzing Jane Goodall's 'A Reason For Hope'
A REASON FOR HOPE: AN ANAYLSIS 9 A Reason for Hope: An Analysis Alexandra Kodaski
University of Minnesota– Twin Cities Jane Goodall was one of the most influential women in
science to date, especially in terms of research. She was raised in London, England in the mid–
1900s by a middle class family (Encyclopedia of World Biography, n.d.). As she grew older, she
grew more and more curious. This was not the standard curiosity every child exhibits at one time or
another; Jane possessed a curiosity that consumed her whole being. She did not solely wonder what
something was, but what it was in comparison to her and her surroundings, how it affected them,
and how it changed them. At one point, she had been so consumed by learning how a hen laid an
egg from inside the hen house that her parents had called the police to report her missing as she had

Regardless of all of the constant change, she was able to find and establish herself as a scientist

it, she incorporated mind, thought, and consciousness into her life in order to live the way she
desired. Everything that she experienced only made her more resilient, which is likely why she
became so successful. I believe she leaves an impression on readers through these experiences and
her fourfold reasons for hope: the human brain, the resilience of nature, the energy and enthusiasm

Firstly, the reading claims that National geographic society concluded that he had reached the North
Pole. The professor opposes this point by saying that The National geography society was the close

Robert Peary Was Not Alone
In April of 1909 the North Pole was claimed, Peary made it! Yet, Robert Peary was not alone.
Although, Peary would have liked to have claimed the Pole on his own, and as he said it "go it

throughout every expedition. Many other men attempted to claim the North Pole, but Peary and

Henson and Peary's friendship would last through the years during their expeditions together; each
with their own unique qualities and experiences, their relationship as not only friends, but as leader

Counter (who wrote the introduction for A Negro Explorer at The North Pole, by Matthew Henson),
Peary and Henson both were impressed and taken by each other's intelligence, ambition, and
experience; and Henson was particularly impressed by the respect Peary had shown him (Counter

the North Pole. In July of 1908 Peary and Henson set out to make their claims of reaching farthest
north, even farther than Peary's first achievement. Officer and Page stated that Peary "needed the
Pole, the big prize" (Officer and Page 164). Therefore, Peary was determined to be the conqueror of

All My Life For Sale Summary
"All my life for sale" is an online performance project created by John D Freyer, in which he posted
all of his belongings up for bids on Ebay, he then, went ahead and tracked all of his sold items and
visited them in their new homes, while he blogged his journey. A bag of Porky's pig skins, a stack of
National Geographic magazines, and a old T–4 Super camera; these are few of the items that John D
Freyer sold on Ebay. As surprising as some of his items were, they all sold, partly because of his
underlying purpose for the project, and partly because of his item descriptions. He wrote short

Mainly because a pocket camera is a fairly common item to find on Ebay, for this item he uses
strictly subjective descriptions for example; "This is the best camera that i have ever owned" or "It
is small enough to fit in a pocket". He is using superlative adjectives and he doesn't give a
comparison to support his claims. The only visual he gives, "It is small enough to fit in a pocket" is
not enough to inform the reader exactly how small it is, or what size pocket he is talking about.
Where as the same item under a different seller gives a strictly objective description; it provides a
very detailed product description, dimensions, and color. For example; the T–4 Super's dimensions
listed under a different seller are Depth 1.57in, Height 2.56in, Width 4.64in. Therefore, by giving
the exact dimensions, the seller gives the potential buyer a great visual of how small the camera
really is. Freyer's T–4 Super item objective description is missing, while his subjective description
makes a half decent sales pitch. It seems that Freyer did not intend to list the T–4 Super for serious
buyers, instead, it seems geared more towards collectors who instead of being interested in the
camera's functions and attributes, are however more inclined in the sentimental value and antiquity.

Dan Buettner Blue Zones

  • 1. Dan Buettner Blue Zones Dan Buettner's "How To Live To 100+" is a TED talk that explores three of the world's "Blue Zones". According to Gulli (2008), Blue Zones "are places where people have the lengthiest lifespans". Of the many Blue Zones in the world, Buettner closely investigated Sardinia, an island off the coast of Italy; Okinawa, an archipelago south of Tokyo; and Loma Linda, an area in California containing the Seventh–Day Adventists. During his talk, Buettner (2009) acknowledged that "Only about 10 percent of how long the average person lives, within certain biological limits, is dictated by our genes. The other 90 percent is dictated by our lifestyle." The research he presents throughout his talk seems to prove this as most centenarians in the blue zones mentioned above have similar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If people took a little more caution when choosing friends, they could undoubtedly add more years to their lives. Conclusion The ability to reach a three–digit age is easier to obtain than citizens in my community may think. Most people my age think that you'll live a long and healthy life if you take part in intense physical activity while having a diet containing lots of protein. However, they're not doing anything to increase their chances of longevity. If everyday millennials wanted to decrease their mortality, they could lessen their intake of meat and involve themselves in continual easy exercise. On the other hand, when it comes to the social life of many millennials, we see that they have a great number of friends around them, but a majority of them aren't good influences. With better influences the life span of those in my community could be impacted greatly. The key factors of longevity that can effortlessly be integrated into my life are constant physical activity, good eating habits, and healthy social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The National Spelling Of America Essay Every year, millions of students, no older than in eighth grade, compete in local level spelling bees with hopes of making it to the ultimate spelling competition, the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Held at the end of May or beginning of June each year, millions of spectators around the world watch the bee, which is held just outside Washington, DC. The Scripps National Spelling Bee, while a fantastic educational experience, both for learning the ins and outs of the English language and for learning about the history of America, is in dire need of reform. I propose to you, the executives of the E.W. Scripps Company, that the Scripps National Spelling Bee reform the competition by determining the number of spellers from each state in a way that is proportional to the state's population, standardizing the difficulty of bees prior to the national level, and decreasing the value of points earned from the new addition of vocabulary. While spellers competing at the national level follow various paths to earn their coveted spots, people from certain geographic areas have a tremendously easier path than others. This difficult discrepancy is largely based on the number of spellers that each specific state allows to progress to the national level each year. In the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee, sixteen states, including Hawaii, Mississippi, and Nevada, sent only one speller from the entire state, while states such as Ohio and California sent nineteen and seventeen respectively ... • 3. Colony Collapse Disorder The Buzz on Colony Collapse Disorder Denise Collins According to the National Geographic News website, the domestic honey bee population has decreased 50% in as many years (Roach, 2004). Many reasons are blamed for the decrease in honey bee numbers including diseases and pesticides. Scientists have given the decline in honey bee population phenomenon a name, Colony Collapse Disorder. While some experts maintain that Colony Collapse Disorder is a nuisance and not a catastrophe, it is a serious problem affecting domestic honey bees worldwide. Colony Collapse Disorder is a phenomenon affecting domestic and wild honey bee colonies worldwide. Basically what is happening is worker bees are leaving the hive and not coming back but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spanish researchers have recently announced they have found the cause of Colony Collapse Disorder. The scientists are suggesting that the honey bees are being attacked by a fungus called Nosema ceranae. Through further testing of infected hives, the researchers may have also found a cure. Simply enough, an antibiotic has been found to be effective in curing the colony (Ford, 2009). I believe that more research needs to be done to further evaluate the Colony Collapse Disorder. We need to make sure that all possible causes have been checked and rechecked. There could be more than one cause to the devastating disorder. There could also be more than one remedy to the problem. The first item that needs to be completed is do extensive study of the both the wild and domesticated honey bee. This study of both types is to be done to see why commercial honey bee colonies are affected more often than wild hives. A healthy hive needs to be quarantined for the control. When a colony is suspected of being on the verge of collapsing, miniature transponders will be attached to worker bees to track its movements. Every aspect of the honey bees' life needs to be studied and documented. The first sign of a colony in danger of collapse needs to be documented. When a remedy is found it can be treated as soon as possible. This step needs to be completed as quickly as possible before it becomes critical. I am estimating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Wisconsin International Student: A Personal Statement Of... Throughout my life, I have had an insatiable curiosity about the world and the way it works. This thirst for knowledge about the earth has driven me to participate in various activities and take many different classes, but doing these things have not been enough to satisfy this explorative drive. As I enter college, I hope to gain experience internationally through either study abroad programs or international internships in my fields of interest. I believe that it is crucial to have an international experience during my undergraduate education, and joining the Wisconsin International Scholars (WISc) Program would allow me to make this possible. Going outside of the United States to study would also give me, in a more literal sense, a "real–world" experience in the field, and could potentially allow me to decide what I want to do for a major and a career. This is important to me considering the fact that I am undecided on what I want to study, and I have interests in fields ranging from political science and education to science and technology. • 5. National Geographic Society And Nationalism Summary National Geographic is known as a reputable source for the latest in geography and exploration. Established in 1888 by Gardiner Greene Hubbard, it was later taken on by his son–in–law, Alexander Graham Bell and eventually by Bell's son–in–law Gilbert Hovey Grosvenor. In Lisa Bloom's article, "National Geographic Society and Nationalism," she details how the magazine writes about other cultures, doing so in a nationalistic manner. She explains the elite vibe that the magazine gives off, through its writing and stylistic choices. And, she discusses the contempt and disrespect that the magazine uses in discussing women and in glorifying nudity of women –– women that are not white and not American. By viewing photographs, their captions, and descriptions from the October, 1913 edition of National Geographic Magazine, Bloom's argument can be further justified. Through word choice, and the images that are shown, National Geographic Magazine gives credence to the beliefs that American and Western society are superior to others around the world, and that it is alright to glorify a person's beauty and to talk ill of a person's appearance, particularly women. The October, 1913 edition of National Geographic depicts the lives of individuals living in Romania, the Caucasus, and the Philippines. The practices, traditions, and clothing of the people living in these regions are frequently referenced. Sadly, these cultures are judged and looked at in a negative light in the ... • 6. Tourism Effects on Machu Picchu High in the Andean mountain range, nestled on a ridge between two mountains high above the valley floor below sits the amazing city and archaeological site of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is about 1400 kilometers south of the Equator on the eastern slope of the Peruvian Andes. The site lies near the head waters of the Amazon River and is on the ridge between two prominent mountain peaks – Machu Picchu and Hauyna Picchu – about 500 meters above the valley bottom (Wright and Kenneth, 2–3). Machu Picchu, believed to be the royal estate of the Inca ruler Pachacuti, is the most well–known of all the Inca archaeological sites. Professor Hiram Bingham discovered the site in July of 1911 and excavated it with the help of National Geographic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is also the impending problem that with the increase of tourism in Machu Picchu there will also be an increase in the crowding and congestion on the roads, footpaths, and in the narrow streets of the site. In addition, tourists also compete with residents for available services and facilities (a prime example of this is the local train service in Peru, in which many backpackers tend to use the local train service rather than the much more "luxurious" and expensive tourist train). An increase in visitors to the area will also lead to an increase in the crime in the area. Finally, a big social/community impact from tourism has been the desecration of burial sites and the removal and display of human remains from Machu Picchu to further stimulate the tourist industry, which has ultimately led to the destruction of the Indian spiritual heritage. (Barcelona Field Studies Centre S.L., Machu Picchu: Impact of Tourism) Environmental Costs and Benefits The environmental costs to increased tourism to Machu Picchu out number the benefits in many ways. Environmentally, tourism does help to facilitate increased awareness of the need for conservation and preservation of natural, cultural, and historical resources. Machu Picchu could also be considered a clean industry, but that might be asking a lot when one looks at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. How Does The Honey Bee Affect Our Society The Apis Mellifera, or honey bee, have survived on this planet for fifty million years. This species of bee is responsible for pollinating flowers, grass, trees and crops around the world. Much of the food we eat is dependent on honey bees for pollination. Our ecosystem depends on the survival of the honey bee. Colonies of honeybees have been disappearing at an alarming rate around the world due to parasites, viral and bacterial diseases, and the introduction of pesticides and herbicides. Over the past six years, on average, 30 percent of all the honey bee colonies in the U.S. died off over the winter of 2012(NPR/TED). If this trend continues to spiral downward, honey bees will disappear from the world. We must understand the importance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The honey bee has a strategic value in our economy because of its pollination of so many different crops. One Cornell University study estimated that honey bees annually pollinate $14 billion worth of seeds and crops in the U.S. The chart on the left demonstrates the economic impact the honeybee has on agriculture. In California, beekeepers use a total of 1.4 million colonies of honey bees to pollinate every almond tree. If losses of honey bee colonies continue, it could threaten the economic viability of not only the bee pollinating industry, but the agriculture industry as well. Essentially, if honey bees disappear, the destruction of our ecosystem will start with insect pollinated plants. We wouldn't starve without these pollinators, but much of the healthy foods we eat will vanish. The regular gardener also benefits from having the honey bee around their flowers. It is estimated that nearly half of all American households have some type of garden. Bees play an important role in the pollination of our local flowers. Water and sunlight are not enough to keep a garden looking pristine and beautiful. Without honeybees to pollinate our gardens, fruit trees produce less fruit, flowers die off earlier in the season, and crops are misshapen and small. By stating the importance the honey bee has on the ecosystem, economy, and our own gardens, scientists are now trying to understand why the population of the honey bee has decreased at an alarming rate. ... • 9. National Geographic Society ( Ngs ) National Geographic Society (NGS) was founded in 1888, and remains one of the largest non–profit educational and scientific institutions in the world. In its 128 years, the organization has evolved considerably, adapting to an expanding customer base, unpredictable economic environments, and inevitable digital convergence. In order to remain aligned with its financial goals, the organizational structure and mission statement of NGS have changed, and continue to do so, considering the creation of a new position: VP of e–commerce. Examining the current structure of NGS through the lens of Michael Goold and Andrew Campbell's "Do You Have a Well–Designed Organization," it can be determined if NGS's current structure is aligned with its mission ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... NGS's structure also passes the Parenting Advantage Test (2) in some scenarios. The senior management does a good job of communicating the firm's strategy on a regular basis, creates task forces comprising of leaders from all groups and facilitates input from the entire organization through employee attitude surveys. Although NGS's unique content and sound leadership have led to its previous success, new developments in the digital space have surfaced cultural and structural deficiencies. One of the main weaknesses is a lack of coordination. This weakness is the Achilles' heel of the organization, and proves its detriment when applying the Market Advantage, Parenting Advantage, People, Difficult– Links, and Flexibility Tests (1, 2, 3, 6 and 9 respectively). Looking at the Market Advantage Test, it appears that there is sufficient management in place to oversee each of the market segments that NGS competes in; however, there is poor communication across the groups, making it difficult to collaborate and maximize the profitability of each. Similarly, when administering the Parenting Advantage and Difficult–Links Tests, it is clear that Link and Leverage Propositions are not used by NGS. The current organization fails to coordinate the efforts of each unit, and therefore cannot leverage the strengths of each, without potentially diminishing the efforts of the others. How much span of control for the new head is required to cope with declining print media sales and build the right balance between allocating investments and revenue allocations across different product units of the organisation? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He should also take care of allocating the cost of this content generation and their respective revenue streams across divisions. Decision Options and Analysis Option 1: The new head should report to Tim Kelly, president and CEO of Global Media Group. This will give him tight control over different media units like the NGM, the book publishing, television etc. and help in building brand value by providing a meaningful and engaging experience to customers which is aligned to the latest mission i.e. "to inspire people to care about the planet". The downside of this option is he will have little exposure with researchers, writers and explorers. Also the allocation of funds to expensive mission programs will still remain a problem as it requires close coordination with Enterprise group. Option 2: The new head reports to Linda Berkley, the head of Enterprise Group. Reporting to Linda will help him better manage the funding of mission programs and also help him channel the revenue to different product units in a way which will help the overall mission of the society. The downside will be less coordination between the different media channels, poor decisions on topic selection as each channel will try to maximize its profit diluting the brand as a whole. • 13. Informative Essay On Honey Bees Honey bees are an important creature to human life. They are said to be responsible for one out of every three bites of food we eat (Michigan State University, 2018). They balance the ecosystem. There is only one generation of bees produced each year. Bees have many roles other than just producing honey. Bees pollinate one third of the crops and average diet in the United States of America. They also pollinate approximately 100 flowering crops. These flowering food crops consist of apples, avocados, asparagus, squash, cucumbers, citrus fruits, kiwi, blueberries, strawberries, melons, etc. Also, with the loss of honeybees, the almond production in California will vanish. • 14. The Lassa Ward Due to my interest in medicine, I chose to read The Lassa Ward: One Man's Fight Against One of the World's Deadliest Diseases for the AP Human Geography summer assignment. The Lassa Ward is authored by Ross I. Donaldson, who is a physician specializing in public health and tropical medicine. St. Martin's Press, headquartered in New York, NY, published the novel in 2009. Dr. Donaldson's memoir focuses on how he treated Lassa cases in Sierra Leone, in the midst of an outbreak of the virus during the summer months of 2003. All things considered, the only way The Lassa Ward could be more informative was if all the action was taken away and it became strictly non–fiction. One connection that I can form between the novel and my own life is the reaction and feelings that Ross encountered after being left alone in the Lassa ward when Dr. Conteh departed. I, too, have felt the same emotions the first time that I ran the A/V equipment at church all alone. I was slightly excited, slightly concerned, and very anxious– just like what I can assume Ross felt. Now, my experience is not of the same caliber as Dr. Donaldson's endeavor running the Lassa ward; however, we both faced the same feelings regarding being unaccompanied for the first time. Another connection that I can produce between the novel and my own experiences is that both Ross and I have both encountered stepping foot onto foreign, tropical soil. A few years ago, I visited a few of the Caribbean islands on a cruise, and I was surprised, similarly to Ross, to find some unusual building styles and less–developed nation than America. A deadly sea creature hundreds of feet tall mounting its eight tentacles across an infatuating, yet intriguing ship, and then ultimately crushing its sailors into the mile–driven sea? Or, in many cases, one pictures a bulging brain and eight tentacles mounting itself onto an innocent prey and indifferently, engulfing until destruction. Yikes, how graphic! Suitably, thanks to modern technology, many of these perceptions have been distorted by a conclusive, yet ambiguous hypothesis– octopuses are deadly. He, along with explorer Robert Edwin Peary, are well known as the founders of the North Pole. However, nobody knows who the actual founder is. The controversy on who was the first to make it there is an ongoing one, with both explorers claiming to have made it there first. Bees are small, oval shaped insects with yellow and black stripes. There are many types of bees, but the most common species bees are honeybees and bumble bees. Although most of human kind considers bees as unnecessary and irrelevant, they play an important role in our ecosystem. Like any other insect, the anatomy of a bee consists of a head, antennae, and a thorax. The head is where the eyes, antennae, and the jaw are located. According to an article written by pesticide company Orkin, bees have two types of eyes, the compound and simple eyes. The compound eye is larger and allows the bees to "understand light, color, and direction information from UV rays". The simple eye determines how much light is present in their surroundings. • 29. The Importance Of Geographic Literacy Geography, it's not just maps and knowing about landforms. Geography is about a who, what, where, why and how. It raises awareness of things around the world and provides information about understanding conflicts and solving them. (Murray, Dr. Matthew) Dr. Edelson points out that, "While the impacts of any particular far–reaching decision may be small, the cumulative impact of the decisions made by millions of people are enormous." ("What is Geo–literacy?" 2012) Geography is something all citizens should know about, everyone should be aware of what is happening around them. The main focus of teaching students how to be geoliterate is so they will know the consequences resulting from basic decisions. As the curriculum continues to change in schools throughout the nation, geography has become nonexistent within the classroom. Besides the basic geographical features, like landforms and oceans, most of this generation knows nothing about geography. Even sometimes these simple concepts are unreachable for students and many young adults making them geo–illiterate. Geographic Literacy, as described by Dr. Daniel C. Edelson, has three key concepts; understanding human and natural systems, geographic reasoning and systematic decision making. He describes a geo–literate student as not only one who understands geography, but one who understands that the Earth is interconnected and the decisions we make over our lifetime have long–lasting effects. They should also able to comprehend that the relationship between human systems and their interactions and the impact it puts on our environment. It means that one should know what the effects are of the decisions we make daily. (Baskerville, Brian) Regardless of if the decision is where to live or Herring 2 how to prepare for natural disasters, everyone makes decisions throughout their lifetime that requires geo–literacy. The author of "The Winning Edge," Peter Doskoch, highlights the need for perseverance, grit, and determination in one's life such that being reliant solely on talent will not get anyone anywhere. Doskoch discusses various ways as to how certain work ethics can allow anyone to be successful in life and how starting to work hard from a young ages does eventually pay off. For example, Doskoch's ideas can be applied to the American Education system. This was not the standard curiosity every child exhibits at one time or another; Jane possessed a curiosity that consumed her whole being. She did not solely wonder what something was, but what it was in comparison to her and her surroundings, how it affected them, and how it changed them. At one point, she had been so consumed by learning how a hen laid an egg from inside the hen house that her parents had called the police to report her missing as she had been gone for four hours (Goodall, 1999). Her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless of all of the constant change, she was able to find and establish herself as a scientist without comprising her beliefs. She learned far more through the experience of life and studying the social habits of chimpanzees than any formal education could have ever provided. Without realizing it, she incorporated mind, thought, and consciousness into her life in order to live the way she desired. Everything that she experienced only made her more resilient, which is likely why she became so successful. I believe she leaves an impression on readers through these experiences and her fourfold reasons for hope: the human brain, the resilience of nature, the energy and enthusiasm that is found or can be kindled among young people worldwide, and the indomitable human spirit" (Goodall, 1999, p. ... • 34. Pros And Cons Of Peary The article states that the three arguments provide strong support for the truth of Pearys' s claim, and provide three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that there would not be any solid evidence to prove that the Peary's reached the North Pole, and refutes each of the author's reasons. Firstly, the reading claims that National geographic society concluded that he had reached the North Pole. The professor opposes this point by saying that The National geography society was the close friends of Peary, and they funded his trip to the North Pole. He states that the investigation that have been recorded, was only of two days. So, this contributes that the society's calculations were biased and not trust worthy. Second, the ... • 36. Robert Peary Was Not Alone In April of 1909 the North Pole was claimed, Peary made it! Yet, Robert Peary was not alone. Although, Peary would have liked to have claimed the Pole on his own, and as he said it "go it alone" (qtd. in Robinson 1), his plans changed the day he met Matthew Henson, who was by his side throughout every expedition. Many other men attempted to claim the North Pole, but Peary and Henson, two extraordinary men, managed to be the first to reach the "top of the world." If Robert Peary went to the Pole without Henson he may have been just another man who only attempted. Robert Peary was a civil engineer for the United States Navy who was held in the highest regard due to his "exceptional talents" (Robinson 118). It was these talents that would ... (Henson 2) Henson and Peary's friendship would last through the years during their expeditions together; each with their own unique qualities and experiences, their relationship as not only friends, but as leader and assistant would make their expeditions successful and memorable. According to S. Allen Counter (who wrote the introduction for A Negro Explorer at The North Pole, by Matthew Henson), Peary and Henson both were impressed and taken by each other's intelligence, ambition, and experience; and Henson was particularly impressed by the respect Peary had shown him (Counter xii). The two would soon make history, and Henson would play a vital role in helping Peary reach the North Pole. In July of 1908 Peary and Henson set out to make their claims of reaching farthest north, even farther than Peary's first achievement. Officer and Page stated that Peary "needed the Pole, the big prize" (Officer and Page 164). Therefore, Peary was determined to be the conqueror of the North Pole and to be the first to take the "top of the world," but he knew he couldn't do it "alone." At one point during the trip "Peary told [Donald] Macmillan that it had to be Matt and that [he] couldn't get along without him" (Ferris ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Reading Garbology Reading Garbology by: Edward Humes has surprised me in many ways possible. For example, I never knew Puente Hills ever existed until reading this book. Puente Hills is a garbage hill that exists in San Francisco, where the big boulders come pile trash over trash that has no limits. This type of facility has been existing for decades due to small business financial and environmental concerns. Also, Puente hill received almost 130 million tons of garbage and five hundred feet higher than the original ground level. Garbology has a connection in my life in a way that no one can understand. Humes, started out his book by telling stories of hoarders and how they never got the opportunity they needed to improve on their life and start fresh. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. All My Life For Sale Summary "All my life for sale" is an online performance project created by John D Freyer, in which he posted all of his belongings up for bids on Ebay, he then, went ahead and tracked all of his sold items and visited them in their new homes, while he blogged his journey. A bag of Porky's pig skins, a stack of National Geographic magazines, and a old T–4 Super camera; these are few of the items that John D Freyer sold on Ebay. As surprising as some of his items were, they all sold, partly because of his underlying purpose for the project, and partly because of his item descriptions. He wrote short personal stories and opinionated political thoughts with hints of humor, which gave the potential buyer a bigger reason to buy something otherwise useless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mainly because a pocket camera is a fairly common item to find on Ebay, for this item he uses strictly subjective descriptions for example; "This is the best camera that i have ever owned" or "It is small enough to fit in a pocket". He is using superlative adjectives and he doesn't give a comparison to support his claims. The only visual he gives, "It is small enough to fit in a pocket" is not enough to inform the reader exactly how small it is, or what size pocket he is talking about. Where as the same item under a different seller gives a strictly objective description; it provides a very detailed product description, dimensions, and color. For example; the T–4 Super's dimensions listed under a different seller are Depth 1.57in, Height 2.56in, Width 4.64in. Therefore, by giving the exact dimensions, the seller gives the potential buyer a great visual of how small the camera really is. Freyer's T–4 Super item objective description is missing, while his subjective description makes a half decent sales pitch. It seems that Freyer did not intend to list the T–4 Super for serious buyers, instead, it seems geared more towards collectors who instead of being interested in the camera's functions and attributes, are however more inclined in the sentimental value and antiquity. The second item i picked is the National Geographic magazine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
