Mountain Area Hospice is constructing a new care center in collaboration with Bowers, Ellis, Watson Architects on the grounds of Thom's Rehab Center in Asheville. The architects designed the facility and site plans with the needs of patients and their families in mind, ensuring easy access and views of garden rooms from all patient rooms to provide comfort during difficult times.

Construction of a new hospice care center for Mountain
Area Hospice (master plan left) on the grounds of
Thom's Rehab Center in Asheville. In design collabora-
tion with Bowers, Ellis, Watson Architects, this new fa-
cility has been planned for ease of access by vehicular
means with pedestrian connections to the Thom's cam-
pus as well as the surrounding neighborhood and mass
transit nearby. The master plan and construction docu-
ments were prepared with patients and families needs
as the driving force. The architects and landscape ar-
chitects collaborated closely to provide all patient room
windows with views facing 4 distinct garden rooms
(bottom) to provide peace of mind and comfort to all
during difficult circumstances. Site work master plan-
ning and construction drawings were provided by the
Broadbooks team with sub-contracted civil and struc-
tural engineers providing water, sewer and retaining
