1. Introducing Dan Swanson, freelance writer/
creative director. I’ll get right to the point. I’m
looking for work. Long format, short format,
advertising, interactive—I do it all. And now that I
get email on my phone, I have absolutely no life
and am committed 24/7 to getting your job done.
2. Why hire Dan? Well, I have loads of experience
making sure the right message reaches the right
audience at the right time. I’m well versed in the
latest media technologies. And I don’t say move
the needle more than once a day.
3. Is Dan just an ad guy? In a word, no. I’m someone
who uses words and pictures to get people to stop
and pay attention to a client’s message.
No players were harmed in the making
of this poster. At least not fatally.
4. The answer to your advertising problem isn’t
always an ad. It might be an email, a microsite,
or a PowerPoint deck full of sales training
ideas. All of which I’ve written, poured over and
obsessed about until the cleaning people tell me
to go home.
5. My work covers a wide range of categories. From
custom homes to fine food to organic fertilizer
made from the waste of zoo animals, which you’ll
see if you keep clicking.
6. I’m pretty good at understanding the subtleties
between one audience and another—from
gamers to rednecks.
7. I have a deep affection for technology. Despite
the fact my smartphone broke one month after
the warranty ended.
8. I know how to reach
consumers.
Clothes don’t make you fast. Mountains make you fast.
9. I can be conservative and tasteful.
Turns curb appeal into curb lust.
15. And I’m pretty good at getting people to stop
being productive at work and spend 15 minutes
checking out a cool website.
16. Years ago, I attended the Young & Rubicam
presentation skills workshop. This went fairly
well, though I have not been asked to host the
Oscars just yet.
17. I like clients. Except for the one who made us file
the nibs of 9 million peanuts at a Snickers shoot
because they looked like nipples. Most of the
others have been top notch.
18. I work hard. Making the complex simple isn’t
always as easy as it looks. That’s why there’s
Red Bull.
19. Oh, and here’s my creative philosophy.
Differentiate. And never forget that adequacy is
the enemy of excellence.
20. 7000 marketing messages a day. Wow. There’s
no shortage of noise in today’s world—but there
is a great need to be concise, relevant and
interesting if you want to rise above it. If that’s
something you need help with, I’d love to hear
from you. Thanks for listening.
