  • Talk is about flash
    Contractor, 10 years experience
    Find me on twitter

  • Preface: Flash is dead
Not true yet, but standards based web will be awesome
For now, flash is still ubiquitous - great for advertising sites
  • Gaia:
Forget the future, use this now
    for full flash sites
    flash standards

  • problem:
    creative-driven flash from an agency
    idea ->iterate
know what they want, not how to do it
  • get idea right, then need to build the site around it
  • my experience: same patterns emerged
I found myself using the same things over and over
    started looking for some code

  • What does it do?
    - standardises your dev
    - handles all your page stuff
    - loading
    - transitions
    - deep linking

  • These were made with gaia. Hundreds more
    - gaia, written / maintained by SS
updates it all the time. version 3.2.0
based on RoR ideas, scaffolding, iterative development
    as2 or as3
  • learning curve
    use them properly
    don’t know if they’ll break
    could be obselete
  • Use as much as you need
    - open source
    - writes out flash files for you
    - everything is configurable
    - events
  • Once installed you start with the project panel
    - do everything in here
    - replaces the missing old flash project panel
    - set up a project

  • site xml
  • First publish
    - right click menu
    - scaffolding
    - Tweenmax for transitions
  • files created and organised
    - lib / bin / src
    embedded with swfobject
    deeplinking enabled
    preloading etc

  • more cool stuff
    - assets, preloading, etc
  • assets and preloading
    - loaded and unloaded when necessary
    - small preloaders on sections or individual content
    - xml, videos, images, other swfs
    - build on the fly

  • page flow
    goto()

  • hijacking events

  • - open source
    - spend more time creating

  • Gaia Flash Framework
