1. The illusion of cinema is broken as the audience are made aware of the camera because of the jerky nature of the handheld tracking shot.

A jump cut makes the audience aware of the editing and makes the cinematography appear amateurish and homemade which is essential to dissociating the film’s identity with that of a high budget blockbuster. The mise-en-scene is non stylistic with the low key lighting in order to present a realistic portrayal of suburban married life that an audience can directly relate to.

3. The use of shot-reverse-shot for the conversation between both characters helps to convey an intimacy and connection between them by not including cut away shots and using close ups. Shots are often held for long periods of time thus removing any tension from the scene.
