Does Technology Go the Right Way and Will It Save or Ruin...
Does technology go the right way and will it save or ruin our civilization?
Abstract:
It is believed that the human race exists on earth about 200,000 years, first originating in Africa, but
now they inhabit every continent, with a total population of over 6.5 billion people as of 2007. In
addition, with the humans occupying the planet, natural resources extinct, pollution increases,
technology grows. In today's fast paced world, technological progress, changes, and advances are
happening everyday. Occasionally, the technological progress, changes, and advances are both good
and bad. Furthermore, human race faces extinction threats and issues, which pulls out a question if
we can save the world or not. The planet Earth is a massive place; ... Show more content on

Health harming is being caused by mobile phones, because there is radiation, which leads to
consequences such as headaches, earaches, blurring of vision and even causing cancer. Even though
these problems are still under research, mobile phone users are advised to reduce the usage on
mobile phones if it is possible. There is also presence of less and less privacy respected with the use
of computers and internet. Today, it is very easy for many people to get into your personal computer,
e–mail addresses, history of websites used, in order to find out immense number of information,
which can be later be used for personal gain. This is also a case with cameras, either mobile phone
cameras, computer cameras, and classical cameras, where intimacy is no more respected. What is
even more important is that with technological progress there are more and more machinery, there is
less need for human labor, which brings poverty, leaves people without jobs, unemployment is
growing, but it still does not affect the economy because the progress can be even better and more
efficient with the development of the industry. There are less and less farmers, because of the huge
use of technological machinery who can perform better for less cost and lower time. This is really
affecting many societies and cultures. However, it

Technology And Usage During Dinner Time
Technology and millennials are like peanut butter and jelly. They are synonymous with each other.
Millennials have grown up with so much technology that this generation is also known as the
"information generation." This generation has had technology at every toss and turn in their lives.
Technology comes in many forms that range from smart phones to tablets to televisions. Many
households throughout the last decade have changed. Homes now have more technology than ever.
Technology is no longer just in the family rooms, or bedrooms. It is also in the kitchens and is often
times within easy reach or viewing of a dinner table. This does not change when it is time to enjoy a
meal. It is becoming increasingly worse, "more than one in three ... Show more content on

Meier and Musick suggest that the blame does not fall on millennials, but the parents. Parents are
held accountable for several reasons, the first is that parents are the ones who purchase the gadgets
and give permission for them to be used. Parents have the power in this relationship that is why
families must be educated on the pitfalls of technology.
I agree with Annie Murphy Paul, a writer for the magazine, Good House Keeping point that parents
are responsible for children's usage of technology. In Paul's article she cited a study that was
reported by the American Journal of Epidemiology which reported that "while half of parents
surveyed in a 2010 study said they always or often set limits on screen time, 18 percent of their kids
really disagreed" (Paul). This highlights a key discrepancy between parents and children. In the eyes
of children parents do not restrict children enough. This is exactly what Alessondra Villegas, a
researcher at Fordham University, states in her journal. She claims that parents must be able to
develop clear rules and that parents must also be firm with the boundaries that are set forth (Villegas
2–3). In Villegas's research she found that parents use technology to watch their children. Villegas
concluded that, "on average, mothers claim to use the television as a babysitter for at least one hour
a day," (6). Her work , which was published in the New York State Communication Association later
goes on to say that television

Society 's Dependence On Technology

Society's Dependency On Technology
Today, technology is a ruling factor among our society.
Technology is involved in every aspect of our lives.
Our dependence on technology has been taken to a whole other level, we are now incredibly
dependent on technology.
We may be too dependent on technology, but our dependence does not necessarily impact us in
negative ways. II. Some say the increasing need for technology, specifically social media, causes
social isolation. Since so much time is spent on technology, these days, people tend to forget about
the outside world around them (Ramey).
"Americans aged 18 and older spend more than 11 hours a day watching TV, listening to the radio or
using smartphones and other electronic devices" (Richter). B. However, communication has been
greatly improved by advancing technology.
Because of technology, it has become more convenient to communicate with those we desire to
speak with much more often ("Benefits of Technology").
"Modern technology has made it simple to discover our old friends and discover new people to
network with [through social media]" (Ramey).
2. "Modern technology has blessed us with advanced communication technology tools" (Ramey).
"These [technology tools] can include e–fax machines, electronic mail, mobile phones,
videoconferencing, instant text messaging, applications, social networking applications" (Ramey).

Both the physical and technological resources need to be managed carefully in Heaton Manor.
Physical resources include the building, maintenance and security of the premises. However, the
Technological resources include the physical equipment and designs and drawings.
Physical Resources
These are the resources that the business needs to maintain in order to carry out its activities. They
include things like the buildings, facilities, plant and machinery. Management of physical resources
involves planning maintenance and refurbishment, and includes organising insurance and security to
keep those resources safe.

Mrs. Dalloway Paper
Mrs. Dalloway Paper
Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, was written in 1925, a time filled with many large changes to
civilization. The book was written and set right after the biggest war human–kind can remember
which killed millions of people, during the peak of industrialization which caused the mass
production of items and created thousands of new inventions, while modernist arts and thoughts
were growing and, and when national pride was very large for the citizens of the Allied countries in
World War I. Virginia Woolf draws on many aspects of these changes in Mrs. Dalloway, especially
on the idea of modernism which can be defined as new thought, art, and culture. Specifically Woolf
focuses on how the new technologies brought about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This face which so many people believe to be of a famous and important person, causes the citizens
who see it to feel pride for England and its achievements, and to generally feel nationalistic. Another
example in the novel where a modern object causes multiple characters to become emotional is
when Big Ben chimes, here Clarissa is thinking about the effects of the ringing bells, "a particular
hush, or solemnity; an indescribably pause; a suspense" (4). This shows that another piece of
machinery was capable of evoking emotion from the characters in the book.
Woolf also shows how much more significant nature is in the world of Mrs. Dalloway through all of
the metaphors she uses comparing people to animals and how her characters often think about
nature. In the journal entry, ""Scissors and Silks," "Flowers and Trees," and "Geraniums Ruined by
the War": Virginia Woolf's Ecological Critique of Science in Mrs. Dalloway" written by Justyna
Kostkowska, Kostkowska argues that, "By referring to human experience in natural terms, [Woolf]
reinforces the inseparability of nature and culture, and shows their mutuality" (187). This argument
becomes more apparent throughout the book when Woolf compares almost every character to
something in nature as Kostkowska touches on later in her article, "An overwhelming

Is Google Making Us Stupid
There has been debate on how the growth of technological inventions is influencing the way humans
think. For teenagers and young adults in my generation, it's rather easy to adapt to new
advancements since we grew up being introduced to so many inventions that took over the entire
world's interest in the past decade. I personally prefer to multitask than to focus on one task at hand
and I can record more information in a less amount of time when I type on a keyboard. Therefore, I
have an easier time learning and getting things done with techy tools than when I sit upright with
just a pen and paper. But most skeptics that assume technology is a disease would argue that
technology's versatility and convenience could be a distracting to our thought process. In the article,
"Is Google Making Us Stupid," author Nicholas Carr believes that the progress in technological
innovation has had a derailing effect on our cognition; however, in the article, "Smarter Than You
Think," Clive Thompson addresses how collaborating with today's technological advances can
actually give more opportunities to bring about more intelligence. Although Carr addresses how
technology can be a major challenge to our critical thinking skills, Thompson arguably provides
better evidence to show how technology actually challenges our skills to for the better by teaching
us how to be more aware, giving us the opportunity to access the most amount of information, and
creating a higher field of expertise for the

Use Of Technology And Social Media
The use of technology and social media makes our life a lot easier. Social media and technology
play a huge role in our everyday life and friendship. In today's world, people, mostly teenagers use
social media and technology every day to communicate and interact with others. Technology gives
us an opportunity to connect with anybody we want from anywhere we are, saving us time.
According to "Daily News" 84 percent of people worldwide say they couldn't go a single day
without their mobile device in their hand. That means almost everybody uses their phone in order to
communicate and stay updated. I use my phone every single day and I cannot imagine living my life
without a smartphone. I go on social media websites every day to connect with friends and see what
they are doing. It is the fastest way to interact with friends and I love technology for that. A couple
decades ago people didn't have good communication devices therefore it was much harder for them
to connect with each other. Technology makes it much more convenient and easy for us to use,
saving us a lot of time. Having technology makes our life easier and at the same time virtual. It is
very convenient and just normal for our society to use it everyday. In my opinion modern
technology provides more options and opportunities to connect with our friends. I really don't think
that technology and social media ruin our friendships like most people would say. It all depends on
how you use it. Technology and Social media

However, in the year 1998, the company was purchased by GUS PLC; afterward, it became the part
of the Home Retail Group in 2006, when GUS PLC got close. In the year 2016, the parent company
of Argos, i.e., Home Retail Group has agreed to a £1.4 billion acquisition by Sainsbury's, which is
the second largest retailer of the UK. It has been anticipated that the acquisition will be completed
by the third quarter of 2016. It is significant to bring into the notice that Sainsbury's is aimed at
closing the separate Argos stores, so as to include them into its supermarkets.
It is observed that Argos is the best known and the most reputable retail brand of the UK that offers
a unique blend of convenience, value, and choice to the customers. All of these features have also
played an inevitable and indispensable role in making Argos, a famous general merchandise retailer

(Gulley, K.G., 2003). I believe one solution to that argument are Hybrid courses. The hybrid
classroom incorporates characteristics from both the tradtional and the online classroom. In the
ideal, hybrid courses offer educators the best of both worlds Hybrid Classrooms are able to have
access to the Internet in order to enhance the learning process. Students have the benefit of having
both face–to–face interactions along with having assignments available to them online at anytime.(
Okolo, T, & Naidoo, T., 2005) For example, students may meet in class only one day a week along
with meeting in an online chat room for the other two days of class. The hybrid classroom is a new
approach to teaching. That is only of the major aspect that is discussed about when talking about
technology in the classroom in depts.

Technology in Life
In the past people have difficult life because of many things and technology is one of them .As we
know, technology is very important in our life for many reasons, it makes life easy, save the time
and improve the quality . Day to day we see new technology and suitable for everyone , so no thing
stay as it is.If we aske old man or woman will know how they suffered because of having poor of
technology. In the future many types of technology will change and comes with new ideas. That is
whey every country takes care of the technology. Oman is also go ahead for this and it want to be
the best. In this project I will talk about the future of technology in Oman and how it will be
effective .
when we talk about technology ,that means we human are talking about something that made the life
of easy and us do a lot of things in a short time . so my point is technology is too important in this
geuiration.
As we know, Oman has good technology and it provides the citizens with technology. But we want
do this plan improve technology and develop it by studding it here in Oman and making new
inventions by support the students. If we do this plan, we will have great strong technology in
future. That what we really want, strong future by technology. So we have to start the plan right
now.

Innovation No More
It seems we have lost the ability to innovate. We do not think the way we used to; we do not invent
new concepts or ideas, rather we just adapt ideas of the past. Our thinking now a day is very limited
to what we have already created.
Google's definition of innovating, "make changes in something established, esp. by introducing new
methods, ideas, or products," suggests that innovation is now just development of an old idea. In this
definition there seems to be no mention of inventing but rather only the alteration of a product in a
way never done before. It's not that the alteration of a product is bad thing but it does create a very
limited thinking world; a world that relies on the blueprints of the past to create a future.
So have we really lost our ability to innovate? Not really, it's just that innovation has become merely
focused on technology. It seems like technology will be the future. That future will involve people
innovation of past ideas and not trying anything new due to the fear of failing. That innovation will
mostly focus on technology which can help to make money.
The novel "Oryx and Crake" which is based on the future shows somewhat of the real future and
what it will be like. In this science fiction novel, we are treated to a very limited thinking world in
which the main concern is technology and money. There are some technological advances evident in
this novel but not ones which are comprehensive or mind boggling. For example, there is a lot of

How Technology Has Impacted Education
Introduction
Education is defined as 'the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing
the powers of reasoning and judgement, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually
for mature life.' A good education leads to knowledge, career progression, enlightenment and helps a
nation progress, as John F. Kennedy said; "Our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our
progress in education. The human mind is our fundamental resource." The introduction of
technology in education has impacted education both for good and bad. According to the Oxford
dictionary, Technology is; 'machinery and devices that are developed from scientific knowledge to
increase or better, everyday functions.' Technology used in education, is part of a large debate over
whether it is improving educational outcomes in students. Some say technology is revolutionizing
education for the better, and others say it is a trend that offer/s no specific improvements to
education. Although technology can never replace a good quality teacher, the advantages and
benefits of technology, positively supplements a bridge between education and the technological
world, hence offers students the marketable job skills they need in order to satisfy in the evolving
technological world.
Relevant interviews and surveys were conducted, to discover peoples understanding of technology.

Teaching and Learning in a Networked Composition Classroom
In her essay "Technology and Literacy: A Story about the Perils of Not Paying Attention," Cynthia
L. Selfe notes that "technology is either boring or frightening to most humanists; many teachers of
English composition feel it antithetical to their primary concerns and many believe it should not be
allowed to take up valuable scholarly time or the attention that could be best put to use in teaching
or the study of literacy" (Self 412). Looking around campus it takes little time to verify Selfe's
caution about indifference to computers: except in its uses as "a simple tool that individual faculty
members can use or ignore in their classrooms as they choose" (Self 414), computer ... Show more

This suggests a very real problem: how do instructors equip such students with the technology–
specific literacy skills they will need to thrive in an increasingly digital world, and at the same time
justify to the public the significant investment necessary to create computerized classroom space?
The intent of this essay is not to offer universal solutions to this problem, but rather to bring the
experiences of one particular computerized classroom, both positive and negative, into dialogue
with the numerous voices already speaking out about the role of computers in education. By doing
so, I hope to demonstrate how the human component of the technology–education equation–the
creative and adaptive abilities of the instructor, or "humanware1" –becomes an increasingly vital
aspect of computerized pedagogy, especially as the power of hardware and software becomes more
pervasive and perhaps threatening.
Reams of books and articles published during the last two decades2 testify forcefully of the
controversy raging over the impact, both positive and negative, that the infusion of new technology
into the classroom is having upon the way students learn and teachers teach. Ultimately, however,
these many voices can be roughly divided into two camps: those attempt to forward and perfect the
difficult task of using computers as teaching instruments, and those who will resist–many for
justifiable reasons which must be recognized and

Society is becoming more reliant upon technology every day. Technology is found in hospitals,
banks, grocery stores, homes, and schools across the nation. As technology becomes more prevalent
in the classroom, teachers need to learn how to use it effectively. Differentiating instruction,
facilitating learning, enhancing communication, and facilitating instruction are all appropriate ways
to use technology in the classroom (Standards for Teachers). Once these types of technology are

Section Two: Communications Plan
Introduction
No matter where one lives or what job is held, one thing remains necessary for success to occur,
communication. Effective communication enables bosses to communicate with employees, family
and friends to talk with one another, and teachers to communicate with students and parents. It is
this communication that lays the ground work for success in any situation. Today, many people rely
on various forms of technology to communicate with one another. The advancements in technology
make sending out important reminders, cute pictures, or a simple life update quick and efficient. It is
no different in the world of education. Teachers must learn how to use effective technology
communication tools such as class websites, social media, e–mail, and text alerts to communicate
quickly and effectively with both parents and students while preserving the safety and security of
students working online.
Technology to Enhance Communication
Class Websites: Class websites are a great communication tool that allows the teacher to
communicate with parents, students, and the global community at large. These websites can be used
to communicate basic information, such as the teacher's background and classroom policies (Dunn,
2011, pg. 60–62). Different levels of complexity allow teachers to decide the purpose of the website
and how much time needed

In, an attempt to improve the integration of available technology, educators and policymakers are
reevaluating ways to incorporate technology into the grade level performance standards without
separating the two educational standards (Collins & Halverson, 2009). Presently, students and
teachers have the ability to transmit information through third and fourth generation technological
resources; yet, few take advantage of the endless educational possibilities (Francis & Mishra, 2008;
Marino, Sameshima, & Beecher, 2009; Koehler & Mishra, 2006; Sharples, 2007; Su Luan & Teo,

In spite of teachers' negative attitudes towards changes and/ or technophobia, as the world changes,
so must the classrooms, teachers, and delivery of knowledge to students (Hall, 2010; Su Luan & Teo
2009; Ursavas & Karal, 2009; Prensky, 2008). Not addressing teachers' negative attitudes will
invariably lead to continued challenges with incorporating classroom technology, especially with
those teachers who focus lessons on memorization or note taking. Typically, in many American
classrooms, teachers can be seen using the same traditional methodologies used a century or more
ago with change–resistant teachers instructing students seated in straight rows within the classroom
(Sharples, 2007; Overbay, Patterson, & Grable, 2009; Su Luan & Teo 2009). On the other hand,
researchers suggested that teaching in that manner should also include active learning where
students take part in the instructional process (Strasser, 2006; Ryu & Parsons, 2009). Clearly, based
on research there is an effectual demand for teachers to focus lessons on learning ways to learn or
research, by using technology to promote active learning and build students' technological skills
(Ara, 2009; Prensky, 2008; Ryu & Parsons, 2009). This research will add to the body of literature of
prior theoretical studies of classroom technology usage and Technology attitude scale (TAS) through

Technology And Its Effect On Human Interaction
Albert Einstein once exclaimed, "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction."
His brilliance shows in today's era since now, technology predominates ordinary functions and
paralyzes the ability for humans to ponder and generate originality. Not one individual is thus
required to rigorously search for information or create ideas that are not simply available on the
world web. This excessive attachment to the devices that deliver access to such a broad spectrum of
information is evidently destroying human potential to excel within the realms of communication
and etc. Smartphones, in particular, spark significant concern since they are portable electronic
devices with the functionality of numerous gadgets combined. Researchers are concerned about the
tendency of people to merely replace experiences in reality with those of the virtual world within
their phones. This matter holds relevance within today's society since a notable percentage of
humans own smartphones and the activities which they participate in with the device stretches from
photography to games and to mere pastime rituals. Although technology allows innovation and is
dire to numerous practices that benefit humanity; excessive dependence can cripple society in ways
that include communicative disability and mental disorders that can thrive in effect to such an
attachment.
Technological breakthroughs have allowed humanity to thrive in methods that prior generations
believed impossible. The

Technology And Its Effects On Aphasia Patients
B. Thesis: While technology plays a huge role in many aspects of Aphasia research, in the field of
Aphasia treatment, the use of technology is still largely developing. AAC technology has a lot of
potential to aid in the communication abilities of Aphasia patients, however, currently its use in
aphasia treatment is not as efficient as its benefits in aphasia patients do not seem to be generalizable
to real life communication outside of the treatment setting. II. Background A. What is Aphasia? 1.
Aphasia is typically caused by damage to the portion of the brain that is primarily responsible for
language. It is a communication disorder that can results in impaired speech and language
comprehension. 2. Aphasia does not present itself in the same way for everybody. Depending on the
kind of damage suffered, it can vary throughout patient 's (Jacobs et al., 2004). a) Language
production may be very limited – cannot speak fluently b) Some may have more trouble with
comprehension aspects – speak fluently but words used don 't make sense – used incorrectly c)

Johnson and Johnson Strategy Formulation
1. INTRODUCTION
This project is one of three assigned reports I will complete as part of the strategic analysis of
Johnson and Johnson. This firs report focuses on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats (SWOT) and includes the following sections. First, the major concepts related to the SWOT
analysis will be defined. Second, those concepts will be applied to the specific case of Johnson and
Johnson. Then the evidence from Johnson and Johnson will be evaluated to identify the major
problem the company is facing and propose a solution that Johnson and Johnson can adopt to restore
its lost competitive advantage.

Firms use tactics like price competition, advertising battles, product introductions, and increased
customer service or warranties. Rivalry occurs when competitors sense the pressure to act on an
opportunity to improve their position. The General forces that present opportunities for Johnson and
Johnson are the global environment, and the technological environment. These two general
environment forces present numerous opportunities for Johnson and Johnson within the
pharmaceutical industry. There is an increasing trend for firms to expand their operations and market
reach beyond the borders of their home country. Globalization provides both opportunities to access
larger potential markets and a broad base of production factors such as raw materials, labor, skilled
managers, and technical professionals. With over 200 subsidiary companies that are managed in a
decentralized manner, Johnson and Johnson views their conglomerate not as a corporate
headquarters that controls. It views them as a chain of small business that are responsible for their
own actions and production. Johnson and Johnson is expanding into the new emerging markets of
China and India. The technological environment leads to new products and services and improve
how they are produced and delivered to the end user. Innovations can create entirely new industries
and alter the boundaries of existing industries.

Dan Sperber's Article The Future of Writing
In Dan Sperber's article "The Future of Writing," he assesses the presence of writing and reading in
our society, as well as where it may lie in the future . He addresses the possible downfall of writing,
the prevalence that reading will hold in our society, as well as how our society will adapt and handle
the changes. He also covers the emergence of text–to–speech and speech–to–text technological
advances, the effects on society and how the disappearance of the two of them will never fully
occur. Sperber's main claim throughout the article is that writing, with the help of technology, may
eventually cease to exist, or at least be far less prominent . While writing has obtained a unique and
prominent standing in most places of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Sperber does stress that there is a strong difference between the writing and reading, and
their relationship with technology. While he states that writing may completely be taken over by
technology, the same could never be done to reading. Most particularly because the two are very
closely linked, yet writing could never exist without reading. The benefits that are present with
writing come mostly from reading, as well as with the fact that as you write, you read along with
your words. Though writing may be replaced at some point in time, reading can never be replaced
despite the text–to–speech technology.
In particular, he addresses the impact that technology could have, and like writing it involves both
speech and text, yet in the opposite order. This time technology would allow a person to listen to the
text be read to them rather than having to read it themselves. However, Sperber suspects that this is
much less likely than the latter, particularly because most people prefer to read and interpret on their
own. They typically also do not enjoy the voice of the computer, and it is much harder to follow,
especially due to

Personal Statement
I started my career in an unorthodox way: delivering science and technology news directly to live
audiences from a stage. I was an early member of the experimental Current Science &
Technology Center at Boston's Museum of Science, an effort to bring cutting edge science to adult
members of the public through extended interactions with science journalists in an informal
education setting.
I was fortunate enough to work alongside a graduate of the Columbia University School of
Journalism, a former producer for NOVA, the current executive director of the National
Association of Science Writers, and other highly skilled science communicators. I considered these
people my journalism professors, and worked with them to develop the skills ... Show more content

I planned the episodes, booked guests, and served as host, producer, and editor of the show,
interviewing researchers, explorers, and inventors from a wide variety of disciplines. A year after
launching the show, it was awarded the American Association of Museum's 2007 Gold Muse
Award, the top honor granted for teaching and outreach by one of the largest museum associations in
the world. In all, I conducted roughly 150 interviews for podcasts or video during my time at the
museum, and dozens more during live presentations.
While I was at the Museum of Science, I started Boston Behind the Scenes, my own independent
podcast profiling ordinary and extraordinary people around the Boston area. This is a human–
interest interview show that introduces the audience to local people, from street vendors to
newspaper editors. Through work on that podcast, I became involved in an iPod–based documentary
tour project. This allowed me the financial freedom to begin working full–time as a freelance new
media journalist and producer.
The two most prominent positions I have assumed recently are as host, producer, and editor of new

Technology Making Life Better or Worse
Technology making life better or worse
Technology has made a big difference in our society such as communication, work, education, and
entertainment in good and bad ways. Some people say that technology has made life better with the
internet, cell phones and other devices. While others say technology has been making life worse
because people are becoming lazy and replace their lives with technology every day. Technology
surrounds almost everyone in modern society and it affects our lives in many ways.
People argue that technology can be dangerous because Technology contains information that many
would rather it not have. It influences minds in bad ways, and it allows people to share information,
which they would otherwise not be able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is understandable if there is bad weather outside but if it is a sunny day then that means it is time
to go have fun outside and exercise. People don't realize what is outside because they are trapped in
their own virtual world and people need to stop relying on technology
"John M. Grohol" who wrote an article "why reliance on technology a bad thing" Says that "Imagine
a power outage. You know, the kind we had just a few years ago on our supposedly modern power
grid. The kind that isn't supposed to happen. The kind that brought an entire coast of our country
grinding to a halt. But as our thirst for power increases and our infrastructure fails to keep pace with
it (and it really is nowhere near to keeping pace with it), it is doubtful the U.S. has enough reserve
electricity supplies".
"John M. Grohol" makes a good point because if people rely too much on technology, even though it
helps us in certain ways, it won't do us any good because there is always a chance that we may have
another black out. We can last a few days without technology but a few weeks or longer without
technology, it will be a problem. If that happens, we would not know what to do because we always
use technology to solve our problems. For that reason we should not rely too much on technology
and realize that we can do objectives without having technology doing it for us. It will help us

Social Darwinism And Natural Selection
It is almost undeniable that the technologies cause rapid changes in human relationships, cultures,
and societies. While it enormously facilitates us in nearly every aspect of our life, such changes also
create consequences that we do not yet realize. Almost all of us know Darwinism and Natural
Selection in the biological field, but we often overlook the similar phenomena in the social aspect.
In fact, resemble to the way we adapt to our physical environment, we also adapt to our social
environment in order to survive and excel in our social relationships. Such adaption is called Social
Darwinism. Because technologies have significantly influenced our social environment, humans are

The reason behind such decision is that unless in urgent situations, other people expect them to text,
the technology that is more prevalent and requires less effort to respond than phone (Turkle 375).
Although "Tara and Leonora are discontent, but do not feel they have a choice. This is where
technology has brought them" (Turkle 375). From those examples, we can easily observe that
because the notions of using certain technology have already became parts of our general social
roles, people can no longer resist the influence of it regardless of our feeling.
In the meantime, we are also forced to mentally adapt popularity and efficiency, the core values of
modern technologies. In analogy, humans evolve (in the bigger and smaller scale) not only because
of our side environment, but also the pressure under the notion that only the fittest among us can
survive. In the comparison between phone calls and texts, texts are not any more technologically
advanced than phone calls are. However, we in general still prefer texts, and intentionally or
unintentionally make others around us use them because of the efficiency behind them. Moreover,
when the popularity of texts is accumulated, such preference becomes further irreversible. Back to
the context of expectations and social roles, we enjoy popularity as the outcome of pluralism, the
conformity of social roles and expectation. In

The Impact of Technology on Our Lives
Technological devices has greatly influenced the way people live in society. Although many will use
modern technology for many of its achievements and advancements, what many don't realize is that
it has affected and continues to affect society in a negative way. Today more people are working
longer hours and utilizing more technology in their everyday life. As a result of these longer hours
and increased use of technology, more energy is being consumed which negatively impacts the
environment. Much of the technology is created to make daily task more efficient. The internet for
instance, paying bills online, reading the daily news and shopping all without leaving home.
Technology is amazing; however, the improvements are getting to a point where it's helping us so
much it's actually hurting us, meaning the more technology does for us, the less we do.The rise of
technologies such as computers and video games has made it easy for kids to be entertained without
ever leaving the comfort of their easy chair which has contributed to the steady decline in physical
activity among the youth. The relationship between technology, stress and depression has a lot to do
with the overuse of technology in our society, particularly among young people. But the reliance of
technological devices is staggering. One of the biggest problems the world faces today is the amount
of energy that is consumed globally. With almost all of the world's businesses using computer

Integrating organizational development (OD) and technological intervention into a total system is
one of the more difficult tasks for an executive or consultant to execute. Organizations are
profoundly affected by technological advancements and require a flexible customized change model
to fit the social network of the specific organization into which technology is being introduced.

development consultant can determine that some or all elements of a traditional model may be
useful for the organization in question"[1, p. 41]. STS theory is probably the most extensive body of
conceptual and empirical work underlying employee involvement and work design applications
today Originally devel. oped at the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in London, this approach
to designing work has spread to most industrialized nations in a relatively short period of time. In
Europe and particularly Scandinavia, STS theory is almost synonymous with work design and
employee involvement. In Canada and the USA, STS theory has become the major underpinning of
efforts involving work design. Cincinnati Milacron, Amoco, USAA, Stanley Works, General
Electric, and Caterpillar are among many organizations using STS theory to design work[3, p. 352].
Over 30 years ago, the early contributions to socio–technical theory by Emery and Trist or by
Chern's included approaches to design of jobs and work systems. More recently, there seems to be
frequent reference to STS, given the inevitable infiltration of technology into organizations in all
industries. Often though, STS approaches appear to be fragmentary and only loosely reminiscent of
the original theory The techniques used in socio.

The smartphone market is one of today's most rapid growing industries. A smartphone is a
technologically advanced communication device that not only performs the actions of a basic
mobile phone, but it also allows the consumer to personalize the device with installable applications
from an Internet based store for maximum functionality (Smartphone, 2015). A recent annual report
from Mary Meeker on Internet trends reported that 87 % of young adults, those between the ages of
18 and 34, who own smartphones are never separated from them. Her report also showed that 4 out
of 5 young adults say that they reach for their smartphones as soon as they awaken each day
(Hackett, 2015). The smartphone industry is made up of a number of firms located around the world
that design, manufacture, and sell smartphones in various markets. The major industry competitors
are Samsung (South Korea), Apple, Inc. (U.S.), Lenovo (China), Huawei (China), & L G Electronics
(South Korea). These were the top five competitors for the first quarter 2015 (IDC, 2015). The

Essay on Society's Dependence On Technology
Technology surrounds us. Like water in the ocean, people are swimming in technology each and
every day. From the radio playing a favorite song to a text received about the results of a game,
people use technology constantly. However, there is a point at which people are overtaken by
technology; when the wave engulfs us and there is no way out. People are becoming more and more
dependent on technology. Ever since technology began heavily integrating itself into society, many
major uses have developed, but at a cost that brings on dangerous side effects, both mental and
physical, as shown by the potential Y2K bug, that will continue unless active measures are sought

Outside of the classroom and the office, technology is still omnipresent. The internet, like most
advancements and perhaps the best known example of modern technology, began at a military level
("Information Technology" 2) and wound up eventually landing in the laps of businesses and the
common person. With this, the normal way of conducting business changed dramatically. Instead of
physically exchanging money, it is now possible to use a website like PayPal to make transactions
(Friedman 84). This transaction can occur from a computer, smart–phone, or some other electronic
device, possible because an extraordinary amount of people, especially young adults, now carry
them around constantly (Champy 1). It may have been inevitable, but it is still staggering to see how
much these advancing technologies has become commonplace. For some, it may be hard to think
back to a time before having an e–mail account was necessary for nearly everything, but such a time
existed not too long ago. Before this new era of technology, a research paper would have to be done
with physical books, and those could usually only be obtained by going to the library, checking one

Ibm's Culture Transformation : Ibm
IBM's Culture Transformation
There is a multitude of reasons as to why an organization may change their culture. Some catalysts
to cultural change could be such things as changes in the economy, external events, internal
shortcomings, restructuring of leadership, or growth of technological capabilities. Since IBM was
founded in 1911, it has undergone a multitude of cultural changes driven by each one of these
factors. The 1990's included a large cultural shift for this organization driven by a new CEO and
new technological capabilities.
Culture Prior to the Change Prior to their cultural change that took place in the early 1990's, many
would have said that IBM was on a fatal downhill slide. At this point they were beginning to
become obsolete. IBM at one point was among the leaders within the world for hardware/software
development and information technology services, but all divisions within the organization were run
independently from one another. They were not a unified enterprise. To solidify this even further,
"rather than working together as a team, divisions competed against each other both internally and
in the field" (DiCarlo, L., 2002).
Steps to Change On April 1, 1993 Louis V. Gerstner took over as IBM's chairman and CEO.
Gerstner was able to recognize the flaws in IBM's model to have the company being run as several
independent parts from one another. From the beginning he was able to recognize that "IBM was

Technology Is Eroding All Of Humanity
Over Use of Technology? How technology is eroding all of humanity.
Many people believe technology to be advancing humanity's capabilities, in reality, although there
are some advantages, it has many negative effects on society, and therefore the amount of
technology used should be reduced to ensure the continuing existence of mankind. People of all ages
from young children to adults use technology on a daily basis to learn and do things which were
once done manually. People are slowly losing the ability to do simple actions such as writing a letter
or spelling simple words. There is also an increasing number of health issues found to be the result
of excessive technology usage. To decrease the amount of social and medical conditions in today's
society the technology usage should be decreased and used more safely.
Although the amount of technology used should be reduced it is still a very useful utility and should
not be completely stopped. The development of new technologies, such as mobile phones,
Facebook, email, Skype and FaceTime, have made it easier for people to communicate with other
people at any time anywhere in the world. By developing new technology, society is able to quickly
send/receive messages. For example if you want to give a message to a friend or relative you can
just ring, text or email them, whereas before you would have to hand write a message which would
then be hand delivered.
Technology can also be useful when wanting to find out

Technology and conversation
It is amazing how everyone's life is changing by through us of technology. "Technology by
definition means, the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means
and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as
industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science"(Technology). Today people use
different kinds of technology like: cellphones, iPods, laptops, mp3s, and all of the devices create a
convenient and comfort for every individual. As technology is updating every day, and every second
it is affecting people's lives and changing the pace of everything that relates to humans' routines.
One of the most important things that technology changes is the way everyone communicates.
Technologies create more powerful and effective ways of communication. People are getting used to
a new way to be alone together. Conversation in number and quality decrease as technology replaces

How Technology Has Changed Our Lives
In our ever–evolving world, we have seen the emergence of technology in all aspects of our lives.
People use technology as a form of entertainment, as a tool to help them communicate with other
people, to help them monitor their health and as a tool to help them enhance their work. When out in
public, it is common to see numerous people using some form of technologic device. While at the
mall, it is common to see people talking on their phones, texting people or posting on their social
network sites. At a doctor's offices you will likely see people playing on their tablets or using their
cell phones, and it is even common practice to see these devices being used by people who are
working out at the gym. Although technology has been embraced in many areas of society, there are
still some areas that resist it. Oliver, Osa & Walker explain that "While society in general has
embraced 21st century technology innovations for daily living, a gap remains in the understanding
of appropriate uses for technology in the learning environment (Banister & Ross, 2006)" (2012).
Unfortunately, instructional technologies have not been utilized to their full potential.
The focus of this essay is to show that instructional technologies should be integrated into the
classroom because when they are used appropriately, they can have a positive impact on student
achievement. Throughout this essay the ideas of leading advocates of integrating technology into the

Technology Is Not Good For Students
In todays society technology is becoming more popular in our school systems, and even in our
workforce. Many people may argue that technology is not good for students, but I disagree.
Technology in the classroom is very important for students not only for their social, or learning lives
but also when they get into the workforce. If students learn technology in their early years they will
not have a difficult time when they enter the workforce to find that there is a lot of technology being
used.
Since the first affordable personal computer came out in the 1980's technology has had a big impact
on children in the K–12 grade classroom. As technology has become more reliable and more
available in schools the role of the teacher has changed. When a teacher has knowledge in
technology, teachers are able to teach students to become successful learners in the 21st century,
which will allow them to find, seek, and assimilate data from multiple sources. As we all know
education does not stop in the K–12 grade classroom or even at the college level. In todays society
students continue to educate themselves even if they are not in the classroom. "With students
continuing to educate themselves it helps them prepare to self teach in order to be competitive in the
21st century job force" (Molnar). Many of us may see that there are many careers out there that
require an individual to have education in technology. Since technology is increasing more and more

Our Helpless Dependance on Technology
Technology started out as a necessity, people needed it back when they weren't guaranteed safety,
heat, shelter etc. Technology similarly started off by accidental discoveries that slowly morphed into
technology today. Technology in the past is much more different than what it is today. Take the
example of fire. Fire started by accident but furthermore led to expansion into creating bigger fires.
To be exact this happened because there was a need to keep warm and have a source of light. The
discovery may have led to the idea that they need more fires. Maintaining fires accordingly may
have led into the discovery of cooking, because of the need to cook and food to be nutritious must
have been very important. Technology in the past meant slowly advancing to make lives easier. If
you see technology today the first few things you think are, computers, tablets, and other common
household objects. With the fast pace of technology today, technology is harming our businesses,
brains and our bodies. The fast pace of technology as a result has played a big part in running us and
our society. As technology advances (which is a good thing) so does our total dependency on it
makes it run our society. The fast pace of technology consequently doubles our dependency
therefore harming us physically, emotionally and physcologically.
Technology isn't the reason why it is hurting us, it is our dependence on technology that hurts. To
illustrate the idea of the dependance on technlogy when the

  • 1. Does Technology Go the Right Way and Will It Save or Ruin... Does technology go the right way and will it save or ruin our civilization? Abstract: It is believed that the human race exists on earth about 200,000 years, first originating in Africa, but now they inhabit every continent, with a total population of over 6.5 billion people as of 2007. In addition, with the humans occupying the planet, natural resources extinct, pollution increases, technology grows. In today's fast paced world, technological progress, changes, and advances are happening everyday. Occasionally, the technological progress, changes, and advances are both good and bad. Furthermore, human race faces extinction threats and issues, which pulls out a question if we can save the world or not. The planet Earth is a massive place; ... Health harming is being caused by mobile phones, because there is radiation, which leads to consequences such as headaches, earaches, blurring of vision and even causing cancer. Even though these problems are still under research, mobile phone users are advised to reduce the usage on mobile phones if it is possible. There is also presence of less and less privacy respected with the use of computers and internet. Today, it is very easy for many people to get into your personal computer, e–mail addresses, history of websites used, in order to find out immense number of information, which can be later be used for personal gain. This is also a case with cameras, either mobile phone cameras, computer cameras, and classical cameras, where intimacy is no more respected. What is even more important is that with technological progress there are more and more machinery, there is less need for human labor, which brings poverty, leaves people without jobs, unemployment is growing, but it still does not affect the economy because the progress can be even better and more efficient with the development of the industry. There are less and less farmers, because of the huge use of technological machinery who can perform better for less cost and lower time. This is really affecting many societies and cultures. • 3. Technology And Usage During Dinner Time Technology and millennials are like peanut butter and jelly. They are synonymous with each other. Millennials have grown up with so much technology that this generation is also known as the "information generation." This generation has had technology at every toss and turn in their lives. Technology comes in many forms that range from smart phones to tablets to televisions. Many households throughout the last decade have changed. Homes now have more technology than ever. Technology is no longer just in the family rooms, or bedrooms. It is also in the kitchens and is often times within easy reach or viewing of a dinner table. This does not change when it is time to enjoy a meal. It is becoming increasingly worse, "more than one in three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meier and Musick suggest that the blame does not fall on millennials, but the parents. Parents are held accountable for several reasons, the first is that parents are the ones who purchase the gadgets and give permission for them to be used. Parents have the power in this relationship that is why families must be educated on the pitfalls of technology. I agree with Annie Murphy Paul, a writer for the magazine, Good House Keeping point that parents are responsible for children's usage of technology. In Paul's article she cited a study that was reported by the American Journal of Epidemiology which reported that "while half of parents surveyed in a 2010 study said they always or often set limits on screen time, 18 percent of their kids really disagreed" (Paul). This highlights a key discrepancy between parents and children. In the eyes of children parents do not restrict children enough. This is exactly what Alessondra Villegas, a researcher at Fordham University, states in her journal. She claims that parents must be able to develop clear rules and that parents must also be firm with the boundaries that are set forth (Villegas 2–3). In Villegas's research she found that parents use technology to watch their children. Villegas concluded that, "on average, mothers claim to use the television as a babysitter for at least one hour a day," (6). • 8. Society 's Dependence On Technology Jenna Todd Ms. Ammirata Composition 11– Period 1 2 October 2015 Society's Dependency On Technology Today, technology is a ruling factor among our society. Technology is involved in every aspect of our lives. Our dependence on technology has been taken to a whole other level, we are now incredibly dependent on technology. We may be too dependent on technology, but our dependence does not necessarily impact us in negative ways. II. Some say the increasing need for technology, specifically social media, causes social isolation. Since so much time is spent on technology, these days, people tend to forget about the outside world around them (Ramey). "Americans aged 18 and older spend more than 11 hours a day watching TV, listening to the radio or using smartphones and other electronic devices" (Richter). B. However, communication has been greatly improved by advancing technology. Because of technology, it has become more convenient to communicate with those we desire to speak with much more often ("Benefits of Technology"). "Modern technology has made it simple to discover our old friends and discover new people to network with [through social media]" (Ramey). 2. "Modern technology has blessed us with advanced communication technology tools" (Ramey). "These [technology tools] can include e–fax machines, electronic mail, mobile phones, videoconferencing, instant text messaging, applications, social networking applications" (Ramey). III. ... • 12. Mrs. Dalloway Paper Mrs. Dalloway Paper Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, was written in 1925, a time filled with many large changes to civilization. The book was written and set right after the biggest war human–kind can remember which killed millions of people, during the peak of industrialization which caused the mass production of items and created thousands of new inventions, while modernist arts and thoughts were growing and, and when national pride was very large for the citizens of the Allied countries in World War I. Virginia Woolf draws on many aspects of these changes in Mrs. Dalloway, especially on the idea of modernism which can be defined as new thought, art, and culture. Specifically Woolf focuses on how the new technologies brought about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This face which so many people believe to be of a famous and important person, causes the citizens who see it to feel pride for England and its achievements, and to generally feel nationalistic. Another example in the novel where a modern object causes multiple characters to become emotional is when Big Ben chimes, here Clarissa is thinking about the effects of the ringing bells, "a particular hush, or solemnity; an indescribably pause; a suspense" (4). This shows that another piece of machinery was capable of evoking emotion from the characters in the book. Woolf also shows how much more significant nature is in the world of Mrs. Dalloway through all of the metaphors she uses comparing people to animals and how her characters often think about nature. In the journal entry, ""Scissors and Silks," "Flowers and Trees," and "Geraniums Ruined by the War": Virginia Woolf's Ecological Critique of Science in Mrs. Dalloway" written by Justyna Kostkowska, Kostkowska argues that, "By referring to human experience in natural terms, [Woolf] reinforces the inseparability of nature and culture, and shows their mutuality" (187). This argument becomes more apparent throughout the book when Woolf compares almost every character to something in nature as Kostkowska touches on later in her article, "An overwhelming ... • 14. Is Google Making Us Stupid There has been debate on how the growth of technological inventions is influencing the way humans think. For teenagers and young adults in my generation, it's rather easy to adapt to new advancements since we grew up being introduced to so many inventions that took over the entire world's interest in the past decade. I personally prefer to multitask than to focus on one task at hand and I can record more information in a less amount of time when I type on a keyboard. Therefore, I have an easier time learning and getting things done with techy tools than when I sit upright with just a pen and paper. But most skeptics that assume technology is a disease would argue that technology's versatility and convenience could be a distracting to our thought process. In the article, "Is Google Making Us Stupid," author Nicholas Carr believes that the progress in technological innovation has had a derailing effect on our cognition; however, in the article, "Smarter Than You Think," Clive Thompson addresses how collaborating with today's technological advances can actually give more opportunities to bring about more intelligence. Although Carr addresses how technology can be a major challenge to our critical thinking skills, Thompson arguably provides better evidence to show how technology actually challenges our skills to for the better by teaching us how to be more aware, giving us the opportunity to access the most amount of information, and creating a higher field of expertise for the ... • 16. Use Of Technology And Social Media The use of technology and social media makes our life a lot easier. Social media and technology play a huge role in our everyday life and friendship. In today's world, people, mostly teenagers use social media and technology every day to communicate and interact with others. Technology gives us an opportunity to connect with anybody we want from anywhere we are, saving us time. According to "Daily News" 84 percent of people worldwide say they couldn't go a single day without their mobile device in their hand. That means almost everybody uses their phone in order to communicate and stay updated. I use my phone every single day and I cannot imagine living my life without a smartphone. I go on social media websites every day to connect with friends and see what they are doing. It is the fastest way to interact with friends and I love technology for that. A couple decades ago people didn't have good communication devices therefore it was much harder for them to connect with each other. Technology makes it much more convenient and easy for us to use, saving us a lot of time. Having technology makes our life easier and at the same time virtual. It is very convenient and just normal for our society to use it everyday. In my opinion modern technology provides more options and opportunities to connect with our friends. I really don't think that technology and social media ruin our friendships like most people would say. It all depends on how you use it. Technology and Social media ... Students have the benefit of having both face–to–face interactions along with having assignments available to them online at anytime.( Okolo, T, & Naidoo, T., 2005) For example, students may meet in class only one day a week along with meeting in an online chat room for the other two days of class. • 24. Innovation No More It seems we have lost the ability to innovate. We do not think the way we used to; we do not invent new concepts or ideas, rather we just adapt ideas of the past. Our thinking now a day is very limited to what we have already created. Google's definition of innovating, "make changes in something established, esp. by introducing new methods, ideas, or products," suggests that innovation is now just development of an old idea. In this definition there seems to be no mention of inventing but rather only the alteration of a product in a way never done before. It's not that the alteration of a product is bad thing but it does create a very limited thinking world; a world that relies on the blueprints of the past to create a future. So have we really lost our ability to innovate? Not really, it's just that innovation has become merely focused on technology. It seems like technology will be the future. That future will involve people innovation of past ideas and not trying anything new due to the fear of failing. That innovation will mostly focus on technology which can help to make money. The novel "Oryx and Crake" which is based on the future shows somewhat of the real future and what it will be like. In this science fiction novel, we are treated to a very limited thinking world in which the main concern is technology and money. There are some technological advances evident in this novel but not ones which are comprehensive or mind boggling. For example, there is a lot of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. How Technology Has Impacted Education Introduction Education is defined as 'the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgement, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.' A good education leads to knowledge, career progression, enlightenment and helps a nation progress, as John F. Kennedy said; "Our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education. The human mind is our fundamental resource." The introduction of technology in education has impacted education both for good and bad. According to the Oxford dictionary, Technology is; 'machinery and devices that are developed from scientific knowledge to increase or better, everyday functions.' Technology used in education, is part of a large debate over whether it is improving educational outcomes in students. Some say technology is revolutionizing education for the better, and others say it is a trend that offer/s no specific improvements to education. Although technology can never replace a good quality teacher, the advantages and benefits of technology, positively supplements a bridge between education and the technological world, hence offers students the marketable job skills they need in order to satisfy in the evolving technological world. Relevant interviews and surveys were conducted, to discover peoples understanding of technology. 1. Advantages of technology in schools and how this improves educational outcomes. ... Teaching and Learning in a Networked Composition Classroom In her essay "Technology and Literacy: A Story about the Perils of Not Paying Attention," Cynthia L. Selfe notes that "technology is either boring or frightening to most humanists; many teachers of English composition feel it antithetical to their primary concerns and many believe it should not be allowed to take up valuable scholarly time or the attention that could be best put to use in teaching or the study of literacy" (Self 412). Looking around campus it takes little time to verify Selfe's caution about indifference to computers: except in its uses as "a simple tool that individual faculty members can use or ignore in their classrooms as they choose" (Self 414), computer ... This suggests a very real problem: how do instructors equip such students with the technology– specific literacy skills they will need to thrive in an increasingly digital world, and at the same time justify to the public the significant investment necessary to create computerized classroom space? The intent of this essay is not to offer universal solutions to this problem, but rather to bring the experiences of one particular computerized classroom, both positive and negative, into dialogue with the numerous voices already speaking out about the role of computers in education. By doing so, I hope to demonstrate how the human component of the technology–education equation–the creative and adaptive abilities of the instructor, or "humanware1" –becomes an increasingly vital aspect of computerized pedagogy, especially as the power of hardware and software becomes more pervasive and perhaps threatening. Reams of books and articles published during the last two decades2 testify forcefully of the controversy raging over the impact, both positive and negative, that the infusion of new technology into the classroom is having upon the way students learn and teachers teach. Ultimately, however, these many voices can be roughly divided into two camps: those attempt to forward and perfect the difficult task of using computers as teaching instruments, and those who will resist–many for justifiable reasons which must be recognized and ... Implementing Comprehensive Classroom Technology Plan Comprehensive Classroom Technology Plan Kayla Neatherlin Grand Canyon University EDU–225 07/05/2015 Comprehensive Classroom Technology Plan Introduction Society is becoming more reliant upon technology every day. Technology is found in hospitals, banks, grocery stores, homes, and schools across the nation. As technology becomes more prevalent in the classroom, teachers need to learn how to use it effectively. Differentiating instruction, facilitating learning, enhancing communication, and facilitating instruction are all appropriate ways to use technology in the classroom (Standards for Teachers). Once these types of technology are mastered, student performance, creativity, and thirst for knowledge should begin to increase. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Section Two: Communications Plan Introduction No matter where one lives or what job is held, one thing remains necessary for success to occur, communication. Effective communication enables bosses to communicate with employees, family and friends to talk with one another, and teachers to communicate with students and parents. It is this communication that lays the ground work for success in any situation. Today, many people rely on various forms of technology to communicate with one another. The advancements in technology make sending out important reminders, cute pictures, or a simple life update quick and efficient. It is no different in the world of education. Teachers must learn how to use effective technology communication tools such as class websites, social media, e–mail, and text alerts to communicate quickly and effectively with both parents and students while preserving the safety and security of students working online. Technology to Enhance Communication Class Websites: Class websites are a great communication tool that allows the teacher to communicate with parents, students, and the global community at large. In, an attempt to improve the integration of available technology, educators and policymakers are reevaluating ways to incorporate technology into the grade level performance standards without separating the two educational standards (Collins & Halverson, 2009). Presently, students and teachers have the ability to transmit information through third and fourth generation technological resources; yet, few take advantage of the endless educational possibilities (Francis & Mishra, 2008; Marino, Sameshima, & Beecher, 2009; Koehler & Mishra, 2006; Sharples, 2007; Su Luan & Teo, 2009). Not addressing teachers' negative attitudes will invariably lead to continued challenges with incorporating classroom technology, especially with those teachers who focus lessons on memorization or note taking. Typically, in many American classrooms, teachers can be seen using the same traditional methodologies used a century or more ago with change–resistant teachers instructing students seated in straight rows within the classroom (Sharples, 2007; Overbay, Patterson, & Grable, 2009; Su Luan & Teo 2009). On the other hand, researchers suggested that teaching in that manner should also include active learning where students take part in the instructional process (Strasser, 2006; Ryu & Parsons, 2009). Clearly, based on research there is an effectual demand for teachers to focus lessons on learning ways to learn or research, by using technology to promote active learning and build students' technological skills (Ara, 2009; Prensky, 2008; Ryu & Parsons, 2009). His brilliance shows in today's era since now, technology predominates ordinary functions and paralyzes the ability for humans to ponder and generate originality. Not one individual is thus required to rigorously search for information or create ideas that are not simply available on the world web. This excessive attachment to the devices that deliver access to such a broad spectrum of information is evidently destroying human potential to excel within the realms of communication and etc. Smartphones, in particular, spark significant concern since they are portable electronic devices with the functionality of numerous gadgets combined. Researchers are concerned about the tendency of people to merely replace experiences in reality with those of the virtual world within their phones. This matter holds relevance within today's society since a notable percentage of humans own smartphones and the activities which they participate in with the device stretches from photography to games and to mere pastime rituals. AAC technology has a lot of potential to aid in the communication abilities of Aphasia patients, however, currently its use in aphasia treatment is not as efficient as its benefits in aphasia patients do not seem to be generalizable to real life communication outside of the treatment setting. II. Background A. What is Aphasia? 1. Aphasia is typically caused by damage to the portion of the brain that is primarily responsible for language. It is a communication disorder that can results in impaired speech and language comprehension. 2. Aphasia does not present itself in the same way for everybody. Depending on the kind of damage suffered, it can vary throughout patient 's (Jacobs et al., 2004). a) Language production may be very limited – cannot speak fluently b) Some may have more trouble with comprehension aspects – speak fluently but words used don 't make sense – used incorrectly c) Because it is related to brain damage, there are other cognitive deficits that may be associated with aphasia, depending on the type of damage. 3. He addresses the possible downfall of writing, the prevalence that reading will hold in our society, as well as how our society will adapt and handle the changes. He also covers the emergence of text–to–speech and speech–to–text technological advances, the effects on society and how the disappearance of the two of them will never fully occur. While he states that writing may completely be taken over by technology, the same could never be done to reading. Most particularly because the two are very closely linked, yet writing could never exist without reading. The benefits that are present with writing come mostly from reading, as well as with the fact that as you write, you read along with your words. Though writing may be replaced at some point in time, reading can never be replaced despite the text–to–speech technology. In particular, he addresses the impact that technology could have, and like writing it involves both speech and text, yet in the opposite order. This time technology would allow a person to listen to the text be read to them rather than having to read it themselves. However, Sperber suspects that this is much less likely than the latter, particularly because most people prefer to read and interpret on their own. This transaction can occur from a computer, smart–phone, or some other electronic device, possible because an extraordinary amount of people, especially young adults, now carry them around constantly (Champy 1). It may have been inevitable, but it is still staggering to see how much these advancing technologies has become commonplace. For some, it may be hard to think back to a time before having an e–mail account was necessary for nearly everything, but such a time existed not too long ago. Before this new era of technology, a research paper would have to be done with physical books, and those could usually only be obtained by going to the library, checking one out, and taking it home only to have to return it a few weeks later. For music listeners, an entire album would have to be gotten to listen to a specific song. The most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Ibm's Culture Transformation : Ibm IBM's Culture Transformation There is a multitude of reasons as to why an organization may change their culture. Some catalysts to cultural change could be such things as changes in the economy, external events, internal shortcomings, restructuring of leadership, or growth of technological capabilities. Since IBM was founded in 1911, it has undergone a multitude of cultural changes driven by each one of these factors. The 1990's included a large cultural shift for this organization driven by a new CEO and new technological capabilities. Culture Prior to the Change Prior to their cultural change that took place in the early 1990's, many would have said that IBM was on a fatal downhill slide. At this point they were beginning to become obsolete. IBM at one point was among the leaders within the world for hardware/software development and information technology services, but all divisions within the organization were run independently from one another. They were not a unified enterprise. To solidify this even further, "rather than working together as a team, divisions competed against each other both internally and in the field" (DiCarlo, L., 2002). Steps to Change On April 1, 1993 Louis V. Gerstner took over as IBM's chairman and CEO. Gerstner was able to recognize the flaws in IBM's model to have the company being run as several independent parts from one another. From the beginning he was able to recognize that "IBM was greater than the sum of its parts ... and the entire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Technology Is Eroding All Of Humanity Over Use of Technology? How technology is eroding all of humanity. Many people believe technology to be advancing humanity's capabilities, in reality, although there are some advantages, it has many negative effects on society, and therefore the amount of technology used should be reduced to ensure the continuing existence of mankind. People of all ages from young children to adults use technology on a daily basis to learn and do things which were once done manually. People are slowly losing the ability to do simple actions such as writing a letter or spelling simple words. There is also an increasing number of health issues found to be the result of excessive technology usage. To decrease the amount of social and medical conditions in today's society the technology usage should be decreased and used more safely. Although the amount of technology used should be reduced it is still a very useful utility and should not be completely stopped. The development of new technologies, such as mobile phones, Facebook, email, Skype and FaceTime, have made it easier for people to communicate with other people at any time anywhere in the world. By developing new technology, society is able to quickly send/receive messages. For example if you want to give a message to a friend or relative you can just ring, text or email them, whereas before you would have to hand write a message which would then be hand delivered. Technology can also be useful when wanting to find out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. How Technology Has Changed Our Lives In our ever–evolving world, we have seen the emergence of technology in all aspects of our lives. People use technology as a form of entertainment, as a tool to help them communicate with other people, to help them monitor their health and as a tool to help them enhance their work. When out in public, it is common to see numerous people using some form of technologic device. While at the mall, it is common to see people talking on their phones, texting people or posting on their social network sites. At a doctor's offices you will likely see people playing on their tablets or using their cell phones, and it is even common practice to see these devices being used by people who are working out at the gym. • 77. Technology Is Not Good For Students In todays society technology is becoming more popular in our school systems, and even in our workforce. Many people may argue that technology is not good for students, but I disagree. Technology in the classroom is very important for students not only for their social, or learning lives but also when they get into the workforce. If students learn technology in their early years they will not have a difficult time when they enter the workforce to find that there is a lot of technology being used. Since the first affordable personal computer came out in the 1980's technology has had a big impact on children in the K–12 grade classroom. As technology has become more reliable and more available in schools the role of the teacher has changed. When a teacher has knowledge in technology, teachers are able to teach students to become successful learners in the 21st century, which will allow them to find, seek, and assimilate data from multiple sources. As we all know education does not stop in the K–12 grade classroom or even at the college level. In todays society students continue to educate themselves even if they are not in the classroom. "With students continuing to educate themselves it helps them prepare to self teach in order to be competitive in the 21st century job force" (Molnar). Many of us may see that there are many careers out there that require an individual to have education in technology. Since technology is increasing more and more not only in our environment but ... • 79. Our Helpless Dependance on Technology Technology started out as a necessity, people needed it back when they weren't guaranteed safety, heat, shelter etc. Technology similarly started off by accidental discoveries that slowly morphed into technology today. Technology in the past is much more different than what it is today. Take the example of fire. Fire started by accident but furthermore led to expansion into creating bigger fires. To be exact this happened because there was a need to keep warm and have a source of light. The discovery may have led to the idea that they need more fires. Maintaining fires accordingly may have led into the discovery of cooking, because of the need to cook and food to be nutritious must have been very important. Technology in the past meant slowly advancing to make lives easier. If you see technology today the first few things you think are, computers, tablets, and other common household objects. With the fast pace of technology today, technology is harming our businesses, brains and our bodies. The fast pace of technology as a result has played a big part in running us and our society. As technology advances (which is a good thing) so does our total dependency on it makes it run our society. The fast pace of technology consequently doubles our dependency therefore harming us physically, emotionally and physcologically. Technology isn't the reason why it is hurting us, it is our dependence on technology that hurts. To illustrate the idea of the dependance on technlogy when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
