Evaluation question 1
1. Evaluation Question 1: In what
ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media
products
2. Uses of forms and conventions in our
opening
In Caro the conventions we used are typical to the genre of the film. Themes such
as isolation due to the setting which makes the audience sympathise with the
characters because they have are alone with no one to help them or talk to
them. Also typical to the zombie genre Caro featured a lot of weaponry such as
blunt and sharp objects and a few guns so the character can protect themselves
from the zombies . Another convention used was the fact that the film was set in
an apocalyptic urban environment which is typical to many horror films and shows
such as the walking dead and 28 days later. In Caro a lot of typical sounds and
lighting conventions were also used, such as low lighting and loud banging noises.
We used these to help promote the enviromement to the audience and give a
sense of fear as the same time as a sense of curiosity about Jason and the
apocalypse.
3. Developments of he conventions
Unlike typical zombie films where there is a group of survivors in Caro the
main protagonist Jason Flint is all alone, we wanted this so the film opening
could have more of a emotional effect on the audience because if I
character doesn’t talk to people or relate with anyone else in the film then
it promotes a sense of loneliness to the audience. There are also
developments in the use of abandoned locations which are common in
zombie films but these have been developed upon by the use of props to
show that he has to become comfortable in his temporary shelter we did
this because once again it promotes how Jason is lonely but doesn’t really
seek a companion and is content being alone creating a sense of curiosity
as to what made him this way.
4. How the conventions were
challenged
Caro has challenged the mainstream conventions of the zombie genre,
this is done through the use of having only ne protagonist unlike other films
in the genre that have a group of protagonists. Also unlike other films in the
genre Caro was not designed to only frighten he audience but to also
make them witness the struggle and sympathise with the protagonist.
