Should Dance be Considered a Sport? After repeatedly being asked over and over again, "So what
sport do you play again?" I am now completely prepared for all the confused looks I know that i'm
going to get when I say, "I dance" As an individual who has been dancing for as long as they can
remember and has participated in local, national, and international dance competitions, I am a
dancer and dance will always be my sport. So yes, I guess you could say that i might be a little
biased, but before answering the questions whether dance is a sport, it is important to define what
makes a sport a sport. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a sport is the "participation in
activities involving physical skill and regulated by set rules or customs in which an individual or a
team competes against another or others." It is clear now that dance definitely fulfills all of these
requirements. Dance demands the same physical skills that are required in other sports. Flexibility,
strength, and endurance are key characteristics that most dancers need to posses. As with other
"athletes," most dancers are not born with these abilities but must establish them through practice
and repetitive training. Similar to traditional sports practices, dance rehearsals are extensive and
require diligence, dedication, and patience from the dancers as they will have to repeat exercises and
stretches to perfect their technique and stay on

competitive dancing should be considered an art over a sport, I have a different opinion. Though I

you based on your skill level, how well you're able to perform, the way you look as a group, and you
also have a time limit just like you have a time limit in football or baseball. Dancers train all year
and go to many competitions to prepare for nationals like football teams would for something like

What I Learned New Imagery And Pedagogies Into My Dance...
I initially took Jazz III because it is required for my dance minor; I also hoped to gain a better
understanding of the Jazz Technique. Throughout this course I achieved the goals that I set at the
beginning of the semester. My goals were to be very confident doing double pirouettes and
comfortable doing triple pirouettes. I also wanted to focus on being a more conscious turner and
dancer. I pushed myself to break my habit of just going for pirouette and hoped that it all worked
out. Each class I learned new imagery and pedagogies that have been extremely beneficial to my
dance career. A few images and pedagogies that resonated were the idea of my pelvis being an
elevator, taking my pelvis with me, especially when doing battement's, and understanding the
placement of a turned in passé. I have already taken and applied the goals, imagery, and pedagogies
into my dance career. At first, I was concerned with such varied levels but throughout the course I
felt challenged in the Jazz III/I class. Jazz III is required for dance minors to complete. I was excited

Growing up, dance has been a very important aspect of my life. I dance every chance I get, whether
that's in my bedroom, by myself, at Walmart listening to the radio, or around anyone really. I tend to
not talk a whole lot, and over time, dance was a way to help me express myself, since words
couldn't. Moving away to Kansas was probably the worst but best decision I've made. It was nice
because I got to meet new people and learn new things that really helped me become who I am now.
It was upsetting to leave behind my friends, and most of all, my family, and the place I called
"home" for so long. As long ago as it was, I still remember the first friday night football game I went
to as an 8th grader. Colby was up by two points against Norton and there was about a minute left of
the first half of the game; when I noticed a group of girls in these black and orange uniforms with
poms behind their backs and smiles on their faces. When they walked out onto the field, the crowd
went silent, and the announcer announced them as "The CHS Dance Team." Watching them was
incredible. They were so in sync with each other and they looked like they were having the best time
ever out there. After that one time of watching, I went every Friday night just to watch them at

For these past two years in high school, I have been taking Cleo Mack's dance program that is
provided for us at MCVTS. Starting the program freshman year I did not know what to expect at all
but I am glad my mom pushed me to come to this school. I have been dancing since I was three at a

What do you consider a sport?
Football, basketball, volleyball, and many more... these are all known as common sports that people
participate in. How many people were involved in sports during high school or even now in college?
What is it that makes it a sport? Is it the time commitment? Well what about the competitiveness?
We are all used to spending hours and hours on end practicing and preparing for something whether
that be a game, a tournament, or a competition... We have all been there before. I started dancing
fourteen years ago, when I was just three years old. Growing up, some of my friends always asked
me why I wanted to be apart of something that wasn't even considered a sport, but to me it was and

was ballet. Dance originated 2500 years from today, from people that believed in a magic ritual
which broke the spell which apparently on a bewitched king. Many contemporary dances can go
back to historical, traditional, ceremonial, and even ethnic dances.
Jazz:
Jazz was created in the early 20th century in New Orleans, but the main roots of jazz originate from
the traditions of Africa and Europe. Some people even say that African and European music is a
union of jazz. Jazz is known to have rhythm and feel. The costumes used in jazz for jazz dance
performers prefer to wear a leotard and tights, the dancers prefer tight clothes because they tend to
help with techniques. Most of the time if people aren't comfortable with wearing tight clothes they
just wear jazz pants which are very similar to sweatpants except that they are a little bit tighter, and
jazz pants come in a variety of different sizes so they are very similar to sweatpants. The music

"I'm so nervous, what if I do horrible!?" Marie looked and sounded really anxious.
"Don't worry, we're both gonna do great!" I explained, even though I was nervous too. That was the
day we were finally trying out for competitive dance at our dance studio, Bleker's. Bleker's used to
do competitive dance years ago, and finally, after I had been dancing there for 9 years, they started

Marie and I had just left her house and were walking to the tryouts. It was a really quick walk
because she lives only 2 houses away from the studio. This was back in August 2017, a few days
after dance camp ended for the summer. We hurried down the stairs to go inside and kept talking

East Coast swing, otherwise known as the Jitterbug is another type of swing dancing. It is more
social and less acrobatic. Although this style of swing is what most people learn at first, it is not
really a swing–era dance. (This dance is learned as, "One and two, three and four, rock–step.") Most
swing dance had an eight–count rhythm. (Counting to eight, with each beat equal to one step.) With
the evolution of the 12–bar blues, however, the jitterbug lost two counts and became the dance of
early rock–and–roll. It is taught as a swing dance, however, because it is much easier to grasp than
the Lindy. This dance was not created until the 1950's. The version that is taught most often is done
to fast big–band music and is also called East Coast Swing.
Another type of swing is West Coast Swing. It is a six–count or eight–count dance where the man
moves the woman in a straight line, "the slot", while he steps out of the way, instead of the circular

Picture a casual day in the life of an ordinary girl: going to school in the mornings and performing
her chores during the evenings. Now, reorient this to a day where she lacks of time to balance

Have you ever wanted to know what happens in a bBreakdancing competition? Well, last summer,
me and my friends all signed up for a competition for breakdancing. It was at the Silverback Open.,
That is where dancers from all over the world come over for a competition. We went to dance at the
SilverBack Open to see if we couldcan win the breakdancing title. The breakdancing event was
broken down into three parts, the tryouts, then the main event, and the finals or /rewards.Add how

Pom has positive and negative effects on an individual mentally, physically, and emotionally. The
effects can vary from team to team based on many different variables. The mental effects can be
things like stress and anxiety whereas the physical effects can be more positive like staying in shape

I Watched An Episode Of Dance Moms
For this assignment, I watched an episode of Dance Moms, a Lifetime reality show about a dance
team of young girls, their mothers, and their teacher. Earlier on in the program's years, the show
focused more on the life of a dancer, and the commitment the each dancer had to make to compete.
However in the most recent episodes, such as the one I watched entitled "Another One Bits the
Dust"–the 28th episode in season four, the focus seems to have shifted to more surface level cat
fights between the adults. Once one is able to get to know the characters, the drama created from
these altercations is absorbing and overpowering to the point where the "reality" part of the show
seems overly influenced by the conducts of the show's producers and directors. With the use of
classic character roles, creative filming, and clever scene selections, the creators of Dance Moms tell
a manipulated story of competitive dance and all its participants, and direct the way they all are
perceived in order to keep the intended audience engaged, excited, and entertained with the show.

Every day at the retreat starts with a dance party – not your typical dance party, where some people

And, yes, it's exactly what it sounds like.
Music starts, markers are thrown into the air and the game begins. Dancers make their way around
the room, marking as many people on the face as possible before the music stops. Faces are a
beautiful, multicolored mess – and they stay that way all day! It's silly and fun and entirely by
design.
Something amazing happens when you scribble all over someone's face. It's hard to be intimidated
by someone who's wearing a green marker mustache! And it takes immediate trust to let someone
color on your own face. When the song ends, everyone in the room is covered in marker. It doesn't
matter if you are brand–new to PFO, an adult Advisor, a teen in a leadership position.

–––––––– The PFO year is about to begin in earnest! Soon we will be in our fall Committee
meetings, and before we know it, we'll be moving into spring Arts Experiences. The bonding that
took place during the retreat was incredible to witness, and it's set us up so well for the season to
come.

INTRODUCTION
Over the last decades, information warfare has become a societal issue. Research shows that
information warfare does not exclude to military, and have penetrated into commercial word. This
issue, is a threat for organization and their assets. (Knapp,Boulton, 2006)
Information is a valuable asset for businesses and organizations. Advances in information
technology facilities the storing, transferring, and modifying of data. Organizations use information
technologies such as the Internet and networked technology to reduce operating costs, improve
customer service, and improve productivity. However, Using the Internet has increased the number
of frontier that must be protected and has bought a lot of concerns about security issues. (Ezingeard,
McFadzean, & Birchall, 2005)
Although, governments and businesses have spent billions of dollars on IT to protect their
information, Medias highlights that the number of cyber fraud and cyber attacks by nation states,
criminals, and hacktivists is accelerating. ( Ezingeard, McFadzean, & Birchall, 2005)
Using of spying techniques such as espionage is another threats for organization. The traditional
form of espionage is replaced by new technology espionage which uses advanced electronic and
computer devices to steal information and knowledge of organizations. (Knapp,Boulton, 2006)
