and a commemoration

• Death considered a source of impurity
• Spirits live in the other world
• Ancestors are worshiped

7. SPIRITUALISM
• Spiritualists searched how to make contact
with the dead
• Spiritualism begins with a series of events
in a farmhouse
• In 1893 National Spiritualist Association
was founded
• Spiritualist believe that individuals survive
the deaths of their bodies by ascending into
a spiritual existence
