Survival Essay
Survival is being able to endure and live through challenges that may wear you down (mentally or
physically), and there are several ways of showing survival. "The Story of Keesh," by Jack London,
depicts survival through a harsh setting. "The Five People You Meet In Heaven," by Mitch Albom,
depicts survival through character development. In sum, the idea of survival is shown in literature
through these two different ways.
The idea of survival is conveyed through the setting in "The Story of Keesh." Survival is shown, as
the story takes place in a freezing and sub–zero environment. According to the excerpt, "The Story of
Keesh," it states, "And the winter darkness, when the north gales make their long sweep...show more

In his eagerness he came to close grapples with the bear, and his bones were crushed; but the bear
had much meat on him and the people were saved." This shows that due to the setting people had to
resort to facing off intimidating polar bears, in a pursuit of food. In most situations, (for example:
Keesh's father) people had died or ended up seriously injured from just trying to get some food to
eat! Throughout this excerpt, Keesh and the villagers have to survive the harsh conditions of the
arctic, hunger, and terrifying predators.
The idea of survival is conveyed through character development in "The Five People You Meet In
Heaven." Survival is shown during the war, as Eddie has to go through fight after fight. According
to the book, "The Five People You Meet In Heaven," it states, "He learned the nervous cheer of a
soldier's first survived combat, when the men slap each other and smile as if it's over – We can go
home now! – and he learned the sinking depression of a soldier's combat, when he realizes the
fighting does not stop at one battle, there is more and more after that..." This shows that Eddie has
to continue to endure all the battles, although he wants to go home. Since the war isn't over, Eddie
has to continue fighting in the war, and he has to continue to go through different problems of the
war. Fighting and surviving in a war isn't easy for him, as there's an opposing side trying

Ghp Nominee Level Paper
Why I want to Attend GHP 2013 The Governor's Honors Program has been a dream of mine ever
since by brother, Dammy, went there. He would talk about it constantly while I listened
intensively. Dammy spoke of the classes he had for technology, his roommate, and the fun classes
and activities he got to do after he finished classes. He told me about the time he went swimming
and the gym class he had. Dammy also spoke about the new people he met, his PA, and how much
fun they had. His words encouraged me to try and make it to GHP. He has always been my role
model and I try to follow in his footsteps, especially when he talks about the activity with excitement.
The variety of GHP has drawn my attention greatly. When a former GHP student,...show more

There are many different topics and styles to choose from. You can be able to talk about dinosaurs
and technology in the same sentence even thought they did not co–exist. I am a person of variety.
The text can be a fiction novel or a documentary. The variety makes it special and complex enough
to enjoy the challenge. I enjoy challenges because they make me think and it is not possible to
excel in these activities without deep thoughts. The good review of GHP has gotten further helps to
encourage me to go for it. GHP seems like an all–fun camp but the 4 hour–long classes also sounds
complex enough for me so much that I am longing to be a part of it and enjoy every second of it!
The things I choose to do I work hard at. I find time to take care of what is needed to be done. I do
what is needed to pass and/or excel in the activity I am doing. I remember, with excitement, how I
was nominated from my English Language class at Woodland Middle School and finally selected,
after taking the SAT exam, to participate in the all challenging yet memorable DukeTalent
Identification Program (TIP) in my 7th grade! Summer 2010 was one of a kind; we were on family
vacation in Florida in the middle of my first ever encounter with an online college–level class at the
Duke University. It was most challenging yet fun trying to turn in assignments in an unstable internet
access environment. This thought is fueling my passion for GHP and is

My Teaching Philosophy Essay
My Teaching Philosophy I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and
involves many more people than students and teachers. People should be learning wherever they
go, and should continue learning long after they've graduated from high school or college.
Education isn't something that can be quantified with tests or report cards, but is instead
something that people carry with them. It's a survival pack for life, and some people are better
equipped in certain areas than in others. People with a solid education are prepared for nearly
anything, as they will be able to provide for their own physical, emotional, and aesthetic needs. That
being said, I also believe that a crucial part of education does...show more content...
The roles of a teacher are so many and so varied that it is impossible to list them all, but one of the
most important is preparing students to learn, not only in the classroom, but everywhere, and for
the rest of their lives. Learning is not a skill that is necessarily instinctual or easy, and therefore
different approaches must be used to make learning easier and more fun for students. Teaching is
not a skill that can be memorized or made repetitive, and so teachers must continue to challenge
not only their students, but also themselves. Teachers that become complacent in their jobs are
not good teachers. Those who can find a way to make an old lesson new and exciting will have an
energized classroom, and will be reenergized themselves. Every child is different. That sounds like
an obvious statement, but so many ineffective teachers seem to forget this. Each student has his or
her own varying abilities, talents, and levels of competence, and it is the job of a teacher not only
to recognize this, but to help each student recognize this as well. If a child isn't doing well in a
particular subject, both the teacher and the student should work towards figuring out why, and the
teacher should accept the challenge of finding a way to make a particular subject more

Essay about My Life
My Life
I was born in San Jose, Costa Rica, and moved to California when I was very young. Before I moved
to California my dad traveled back and forth for 2 or 3 yrs from California and back to Costa Rica.
He spent most of his time working in the Fresno area, in the cities of Tulare, and Visalia. He says
he spent his time working in any available job including some farm labor jobs and went back to Costa
Rica to spend time with us. After the second time he left Costa Rica to come and work he did not
go back. At that time, amnesty was given to immigrants in California, and he moved up north to the
Bay area to find a steady job. That is when he saved enough money for my mother, my two siblings,
and I to join him in California.

I was in ESL programs until I entered junior high school. Learning the language, and trying to keep
up with the class work was a challenge for me. Having friends who spoke my language, and the
English language as well was an advantage I had. Having that extra help and support really made my
school experience challenging, but exciting as well.
Remembering the support I received from those friends creates a need in me to do the same for other
people. I don't only believe that the support that I can give to migrant students as a Mini–Corps
student will help them in succeeding in school, but I believe that an appreciation for school can
be gained as well, and hopefully bring insight for continuing their studies beyond high school. As
I improved in my English I also grew an interest in writing. I enjoyed my English classes, along
with my math classes too. My interest grew and grew, and I joined summer girl programs. After
participating two year, I became a mentor to those new peers coming into the program. I worked
with teachers in Science, and in Math classes. I also participated in the volleyball activities, and
group activities. This is when I realized I wanted to work with youth my whole life. My interest in
English, and my interest in being a role model to youth made me decide to become an English
teacher, especially working with students whose first language is not English.
Now, I am a college student. I first went to UC Santa Barbara, where I dealt with more

A Love Story Essays
I met her two years ago and we did not have much to say at that time. Little did I know that she
would later steal my heart and become an intimate part of my life. As the saying goes "there is
someone for anyone at any time in this life" and I was about to find out that this saying was so
true. I have had a wall built around me and my defense was as a stronghold to protect myself from
all the relationships that have come and gone over the years. I thought that I was meant to be
alone in this old life and happiness was forever gone from me. This wonderful woman I am speaking
of is Mary Doe, and the joy she has given me has revived my hope and faith that I may have finally

"People will only try to take advantage of you if you open the door for them to do so". "Be
strong, be independent, and above all love, love, love when you find someone worthy of your
love". Even my dreams consist of her. Last night I dreamed that I was riding out on the open
range and after around three hours just riding and enjoying the peace and quite of being away
from everything I noticed a figure walking towards me. I was not worried but just curious as to
who it may be. When I drew nearer I could tell it was a woman. I thought to myself why is she out
here all alone and walking. This was horse country and there was nothing for miles around that
she could walk too. When we finally came face to face I could see that she was crying and that tears
were coming down and such a sad look on her face. I dismounted and asked if "I may be of any
help? She began to cry all the much harder and tried to talk but her emotions had the best of her. I
took a chance and put my arms around her and let her cry until there seemed to be no more tears in
which she would be able to shed. When she did finally look at me her eyes were so sad and I took
my hand and softly brushed away the tears flowing down her cheeks. I asked if there was
anything I could do for her, and she said "no, I must handle this my way". "How are you going to
handle anything out here all alone and crying the way you are"? Mary Doe then looked at me and

Perseverance Essay
What is perseverance? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless. It is also a
measure of success, or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success.
As students, it is impossible to achieve personal success without having a goal, or direction. The
goal and direction that often propels us to achieve is perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to
forge ahead despite setbacks that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed.
We are high school students and that means that the sense of urgency to strive for and to achieve
personal success is now. With this urgency comes the expectation of having to persevere. This year
has not been as easy one for us as a school body. We have been...show more content...
There is no shame in falling; the shame is in accepting the the fall as defeat. Nelson Mandella once
said, "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time you fall." That is
the essence of persevering––finding the will to get up even though you know you are being counted
out.
Each day is a challenge for some of us. Some of you struggle to get up each morning and make it
to school. But you find it within yourself to do because the hope of a better tomorrow compels
you to do so. It is not easy to explain to teachers or other students that there was no one to wake
you up and see that you were ready for school. The moment you leave your house and step on the
bus, you are one step closer to realizing your dream, to fulfilling your purpose. That is what
perseverance is. It is the finding the strength to do the impossible because you know that all
things are possible. It is understanding that your tomorrow has great possibilities because of the
steps you take today. I had a neighbor whose parents were divorced, but it seems like both parents
divorced her. Her mother had custody, but she was seldom around. My friend raised herself. She
gave a whole new meaning to the phrase "putting yourself through school", but she was in middle
school. However, she had a dream of something better and it was evident that it required
self–motivation and determination.

Essay On Field Trip
Project: Let's Hit the Road!
A field trip is a tour by students to gain firsthand knowledge away from the classroom, as to a
museum, a factory, a geological area, or to an environment of certain plants and animals.
Field trips can connect schoolwork with the world, making it tangible and memorable. It stimulates
questions and ideas at the beginning or end of a unit. They also provide an experiential "text" for
students to study and interrogate.
If you deserve a fun but educational break from the everyday class routine, plan a field trip. This
project will show you how.

availability of transportation and the cost of chartering buses.
II.Talk to the principal and get permission to go. Be prepared to explain the educational value and
the relationship to the curriculum.
III.Contact the trip site and make or finalize your reservations for the group. Make sure to confirm
your arrangements shortly before the trip.
IV.Obtain your school board's standardized letters for parental permission as well as the standard trip
planning package.
ACTIVITY 2: Create a set of rules and regulations to follow during your field trip.
Establish a list of rules that will help you get the most from your trip. Which would be some safety
rules the travelers must follow? Set some bus etiquette rules too. Also, decide on the measures the
students must follow in case of emergencies.
Work in trios and come up with some rules by filling the chart. Then, with your group decide the
regulations the travelers must follow. Finally, write an agreement with all the regulations and sign it.

Meditation Essay
Meditation is an age–old practice that has renewed itself in many different cultures and times.
Despite its age, however, there remains a mystery and some ambiguity as to what it is, or even how
one performs it. The practice and tradition of meditation dates back thousands of years having
appeared in many eastern traditions. Meditation's ancient roots cloud its origins from being
attributed to a sole inventor or religion, though Bon, Hindu, Shinto, Dao, and later, Buddhism are
responsible for its development. Its practice has permeated almost all major world religions, but
under different names. It has become a practice without borders, influencing millions with its
tranquil and healing effects.

Regardless of a new capitalism, which has erupted around meditation, the practice has provided a
mental oasis to millions of people strained and made anxious by the stresses of modern life.
Meditation is the practice of "bringing the mind home . . . meant to awaken in us the sky–like nature
of the mind, and to introduce us to that which we really are, our unchanging pure awareness, which
underlies the whole of life and death." (Rinpoche, 2002). Its goal is to relieve the suffering of the
mind and lead its practitioners to the enlightenment found by Siddhartha Guatama or the Buddha
while he sat beneath the Bodi tree. The mind's home in meditation is a clear, lucid, unaltered state in
which the fragmented frames of thought that usually circulates in the untrained mind are set aside
and forced out. A mind free of worry and apprehension is at peace and free of suffering. A number
of physical and mental exercises are used to bring the mind to this lucid state of natural existence.
The four objects of consideration and awareness when meditating are the body, feelings, state of the
mind, and the mind's contents.
Body positioning during meditation has practical and traditional roots. The posture assumed during
meditation resembles the crossed leg position of the Buddha. Although there are many variations of
posture and hand placement, they all attempt to create and emphasize the connection

Essay on Writing Experience
My Writing Experiences My experiences in writing have been minimal. I have only learned the
basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things
like that. Since I have been taking college English, I can tell my writing has improved a lot. In the
future, I hope to be able to improve tremendously at writing essays, paragraphs, research papers,
documents, and stories so that I have very little to no errors with drafting and final products. I
predict I will be a well rounded writer when I graduate from college. Writing in the past started in
kindergarten. My teacher taught me how to write my name over and over until I could write it with
no errors. All through elementary my teachers taught me...show more content...
I need to learn to quit thinking as much on what I want to write about and how to write about a topic
and just starting jotting stuff down in outline form as it comes to mind. Run–ons and fragments I
need to be able to spot and fix right away or I really need to not have any in my papers at all. My
goals are to write papers and not have to reassure myself that maybe I need to do more research or
have more data or even have to rethink my whole topic over. I would love to have the knowledge
to be a tutor someday and teach other people how to properly write papers, paragraphs, essays,
and maybe even books. To have excellent skills in writing will definitely be a great advantage in
my nursing profession. In nursing, I will have to do lots of charting on my patients. I will have to
do health presentations on various subjects such as exercising, how our society eats, and sex
education if I want to be a course instructor. Researching information on all of those topics I will
have to make sure I do an excellent job on and collect accurate information and statistics so that I
can compare to other sources. Dictating to the doctor means that I will need to write properly so
that he understands what I am saying. Other nurses will have to be able to understand what I am
talking about by my writing skills when doing shift changes. I will have to be very precise so that
other nurses will not

Essay about Health and Wellbeing
In society today, there is an extensive range of definitions of health and wellbeing which can be
seen as both positive and negative. A Holistic view can also be identified and defined. These
definitions of health have changed over time and will carry on changing within the future.
According to where a family lives or their social class everyone will have different meanings and
views of health and wellbeing. This may be due to what one person perceives as being healthy as
another person may not. Channel 4 learning (no date) describes that a positive view of health can
be seen as when a person is more likely to achieve and sustain physical fitness from exercising and
are mentally stable. Therefor a negative view can be described when a...show more content...
According to Floyd, Mimms and Yelding (2008) Webster's Dictionary defines health as "the
condition of being sound in body, mind and spirit... freedom from physical disease or pain." This
definition has very much taken the holistic view. Wellbeing is a term in which reflects on the
positive emphasis on health and can be broken down into six aspects know as environmental,
physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual. To achieve a high balance of wellbeing it is vital
that a person is able to balance and take care of each aspect effectively. Underdown (2007) implies
that in 1948 the World Health Organization(WHO) defines health as 'a state of complete physical,
mental and social well–being and not just the absence of disease or infirmity.' This definition took a
holistic view as it mentions mental and social wellbeing and it was supported as it focused on a
person being healthy rather than not being ill. However, this definition has been widely criticized.
Seedhouse (1986) believed that for someone to be in perfect state of health is unachievable and
unrealistic.
There is a wide range of major genetic, social and environmental factors which influence the health
and wellbeing of children in today's society. According to The Marmot Review (2011) the more
deprived the area or district which a child lives in, the more likely it is to have social and

My Core Values
As I have grown as an adult and moved further towards success in my life, I have always
maintained a guided structure to achieve goals and tasks that challenge me. I call these my "Core
Values". This is a strict regimen or a belief system that I have instilled into my everyday practice to
complete any task that presents itself. Although not perfected, I have found this method to be quite
successful. My work ethic, responsibility, and my drive to further my education and knowledge
have never failed me. Life can seem tough and demanding on a very consistent basis, but I believe
that I have cultivated a plan to accommodate and withstand any trial

To build responsibility as a child I volunteered to take care of my family dog. Even though she was
the family's pet I took it upon myself to make sure she was properly fed, watered, and walked. My
mother was very proud of my new development as an adolescent. She became very encouraging
and would come up with other special chores around the house that I could be relied upon to
handle. To some children this would seem like a punishment, but both of my parents were so
supportive and persuasive that I looked forward to having the gained accountability. My father
instituted honesty and respect as monuments for responsibility. I of course struggled at times
with taking care of my dog, and handling some of my other chores. But my father always wanted
me to not only be honest with my parents, but also with myself. He stated that a lie would not
benefit anybody and it was disrespectful to tell a lie. He would tell me that a liar was the same as
a cheater, and nobody liked either. If I knew how to respect others and be honest, than my
responsibility would only increase. I asked why I would want added responsibility and my father
told me two things that changed my perspective completely. First, it was that responsible people
always tended to be more successful. Since I had always dreamed of growing up to be rich and
famous, I guess I could accept the added responsibility. The second thing he told me was that one
day I could possibly

Essay on Survival Situations and Groups
The definition of survival is simply, the fact of remaining alive or in existence, especially after
facing life–threatening danger. Whether it's a short or long term survival; effort, great thought and
preparation must be put in place for it to be successful. Likewise deciding to remain alone or join
forces with an assemblage is an essential decision that must be made. Many movies and books
portray the lone wolf braving the situation unaccompanied and valiant. Although this scenario may
seem very idealistic, the reality is that going at it alone is perilous and the possibilities are certainly
not in favor of the lone wolf. Furthermore most military establishments employ a group formation

Increasing collection morale will customarily assist in inspiring the members of the group who are
struggling with individual motivation.
Approaching survival in groups allows members to divide work efforts among themselves; as a
result allowing the members periods of rest and no risk of burning out. The separation of work
efforts in a group also permits assigning members with the appropriate skills to certain jobs.
Moreover this offers a diversity of problem solving styles; allowing for a more assorted set of ideas,
thus improving the odds of survival. The division of skills and efforts can also provide members
with a sense of self–worth, boosting morale and over all bringing a less stressful situation to the
parties. Not only does this method allow for members to use particular skills but, it employs
teamwork as well. Lastly, dividing jobs between group members decreases the physical stress on the
body. According to http://survivalguide.net "It is very delicate balance when considering energy use
in a survival situation. On one hand, the essentials, food, water and shelter must be maintained; on
the other hand, you must conserve as much energy as possible in survival situations. Inactivity or a
lack of confidence will result in poor decision making, a decrease in stamina and an early demise."
Given these points the division of work efforts within a group gives the highest probability of
continued existence.

What Makes A Good Person Essay
My father once told me what makes you a man is taking care of your responsibilities and leading
by example. I know now what he meant by that saying. He was telling me that a good man is
responsible for taking care of his family and being a good role model. For most of us, family is the
foundation for the type of people we become in the future. They sets the path for our lives; they are
mostly responsible for our values and beliefs as we spend most of our time around family.
Most people adapt to their surroundings. We become part of the environment we are in on a daily
basis. Therefore, I believe family determines the path of our life; it shapes our mentality of life and
our ambitions for the future. Family can lead us towards success...show more content...
Yet in most cases the apple doesn't fall from the tree. Saij states, "Sometimes people do get
'programmed' to do bad things. There is a mountain of evidence that shows children who grow up in
abusive households are far more likely to become abusive themselves." (2007) Retrieved February 4,

We don't get to choose our family, we are born into them. From the time we are conceived until
the time we explore the world on our own, we spend most of our life around family. As children
we are taught by our parents, and follow many of their actions. Not only are our parents responsible
for our health, they are also responsible for our upbringing. These are the years we are taught right
from wrong.
After we are taught the basic fundamentals of good behavior then comes the difficult part. From
childhood to adolescence is where we pick up the habits of our environments. This is the most vital
time when we need our families to lead us in the right direction by being positive role models. We
are introduced to many new things at this point in life, especially negative ones. This is when a
caring and healthy family can steer you away from going down the wrong path.
The most important reason family determines the path of your life is because they are responsible
for our values and beliefs. Family

  • 3. Survival Essay Survival is being able to endure and live through challenges that may wear you down (mentally or physically), and there are several ways of showing survival. "The Story of Keesh," by Jack London, depicts survival through a harsh setting. "The Five People You Meet In Heaven," by Mitch Albom, depicts survival through character development. In sum, the idea of survival is shown in literature through these two different ways. The idea of survival is conveyed through the setting in "The Story of Keesh." Survival is shown, as the story takes place in a freezing and sub–zero environment. According to the excerpt, "The Story of Keesh," it states, "And the winter darkness, when the north gales make their long sweep...show more content... In his eagerness he came to close grapples with the bear, and his bones were crushed; but the bear had much meat on him and the people were saved." This shows that due to the setting people had to resort to facing off intimidating polar bears, in a pursuit of food. In most situations, (for example: Keesh's father) people had died or ended up seriously injured from just trying to get some food to eat! Throughout this excerpt, Keesh and the villagers have to survive the harsh conditions of the arctic, hunger, and terrifying predators. The idea of survival is conveyed through character development in "The Five People You Meet In Heaven." Survival is shown during the war, as Eddie has to go through fight after fight. According to the book, "The Five People You Meet In Heaven," it states, "He learned the nervous cheer of a soldier's first survived combat, when the men slap each other and smile as if it's over – We can go home now! – and he learned the sinking depression of a soldier's combat, when he realizes the fighting does not stop at one battle, there is more and more after that..." This shows that Eddie has to continue to endure all the battles, although he wants to go home. Since the war isn't over, Eddie has to continue fighting in the war, and he has to continue to go through different problems of the war. Fighting and surviving in a war isn't easy for him, as there's an opposing side trying Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Ghp Nominee Level Paper Why I want to Attend GHP 2013 The Governor's Honors Program has been a dream of mine ever since by brother, Dammy, went there. He would talk about it constantly while I listened intensively. Dammy spoke of the classes he had for technology, his roommate, and the fun classes and activities he got to do after he finished classes. He told me about the time he went swimming and the gym class he had. Dammy also spoke about the new people he met, his PA, and how much fun they had. His words encouraged me to try and make it to GHP. He has always been my role model and I try to follow in his footsteps, especially when he talks about the activity with excitement. The variety of GHP has drawn my attention greatly. When a former GHP student,...show more content... There are many different topics and styles to choose from. You can be able to talk about dinosaurs and technology in the same sentence even thought they did not co–exist. I am a person of variety. The text can be a fiction novel or a documentary. The good review of GHP has gotten further helps to encourage me to go for it. GHP seems like an all–fun camp but the 4 hour–long classes also sounds complex enough for me so much that I am longing to be a part of it and enjoy every second of it! The things I choose to do I work hard at. I find time to take care of what is needed to be done. I do what is needed to pass and/or excel in the activity I am doing. I remember, with excitement, how I was nominated from my English Language class at Woodland Middle School and finally selected, after taking the SAT exam, to participate in the all challenging yet memorable DukeTalent Identification Program (TIP) in my 7th grade! Summer 2010 was one of a kind; we were on family vacation in Florida in the middle of my first ever encounter with an online college–level class at the Duke University. It was most challenging yet fun trying to turn in assignments in an unstable internet access environment. This thought is fueling my passion for GHP and is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. My Teaching Philosophy Essay My Teaching Philosophy I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and involves many more people than students and teachers. People should be learning wherever they go, and should continue learning long after they've graduated from high school or college. Education isn't something that can be quantified with tests or report cards, but is instead something that people carry with them. It's a survival pack for life, and some people are better equipped in certain areas than in others. People with a solid education are prepared for nearly anything, as they will be able to provide for their own physical, emotional, and aesthetic needs. That being said, I also believe that a crucial part of education does...show more content... The roles of a teacher are so many and so varied that it is impossible to list them all, but one of the most important is preparing students to learn, not only in the classroom, but everywhere, and for the rest of their lives. Learning is not a skill that is necessarily instinctual or easy, and therefore different approaches must be used to make learning easier and more fun for students. Teaching is not a skill that can be memorized or made repetitive, and so teachers must continue to challenge not only their students, but also themselves. Teachers that become complacent in their jobs are not good teachers. Those who can find a way to make an old lesson new and exciting will have an energized classroom, and will be reenergized themselves. Every child is different. That sounds like an obvious statement, but so many ineffective teachers seem to forget this. Each student has his or her own varying abilities, talents, and levels of competence, and it is the job of a teacher not only to recognize this, but to help each student recognize this as well. If a child isn't doing well in a particular subject, both the teacher and the student should work towards figuring out why, and the teacher should accept the challenge of finding a way to make a particular subject more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay about My Life My Life I was born in San Jose, Costa Rica, and moved to California when I was very young. Before I moved to California my dad traveled back and forth for 2 or 3 yrs from California and back to Costa Rica. He spent most of his time working in the Fresno area, in the cities of Tulare, and Visalia. He says he spent his time working in any available job including some farm labor jobs and went back to Costa Rica to spend time with us. After the second time he left Costa Rica to come and work he did not go back. At that time, amnesty was given to immigrants in California, and he moved up north to the Bay area to find a steady job. That is when he saved enough money for my mother, my two siblings, and I to join him in California. My first...show more content... I was in ESL programs until I entered junior high school. Learning the language, and trying to keep up with the class work was a challenge for me. Having friends who spoke my language, and the English language as well was an advantage I had. Having that extra help and support really made my school experience challenging, but exciting as well. Remembering the support I received from those friends creates a need in me to do the same for other people. I don't only believe that the support that I can give to migrant students as a Mini–Corps student will help them in succeeding in school, but I believe that an appreciation for school can be gained as well, and hopefully bring insight for continuing their studies beyond high school. As I improved in my English I also grew an interest in writing. I enjoyed my English classes, along with my math classes too. My interest grew and grew, and I joined summer girl programs. After participating two year, I became a mentor to those new peers coming into the program. I worked with teachers in Science, and in Math classes. I also participated in the volleyball activities, and group activities. This is when I realized I wanted to work with youth my whole life. My interest in English, and my interest in being a role model to youth made me decide to become an English teacher, especially working with students whose first language is not English. • 7. A Love Story Essays I met her two years ago and we did not have much to say at that time. Little did I know that she would later steal my heart and become an intimate part of my life. As the saying goes "there is someone for anyone at any time in this life" and I was about to find out that this saying was so true. I have had a wall built around me and my defense was as a stronghold to protect myself from all the relationships that have come and gone over the years. I thought that I was meant to be alone in this old life and happiness was forever gone from me. This wonderful woman I am speaking of is Mary Doe, and the joy she has given me has revived my hope and faith that I may have finally found love and peace within. Last night I dreamed that I was riding out on the open range and after around three hours just riding and enjoying the peace and quite of being away from everything I noticed a figure walking towards me. I was not worried but just curious as to who it may be. When I drew nearer I could tell it was a woman. I thought to myself why is she out here all alone and walking. This was horse country and there was nothing for miles around that she could walk too. When we finally came face to face I could see that she was crying and that tears were coming down and such a sad look on her face. I dismounted and asked if "I may be of any help? She began to cry all the much harder and tried to talk but her emotions had the best of her. I took a chance and put my arms around her and let her cry until there seemed to be no more tears in which she would be able to shed. When she did finally look at me her eyes were so sad and I took my hand and softly brushed away the tears flowing down her cheeks. I asked if there was anything I could do for her, and she said "no, I must handle this my way". "How are you going to handle anything out here all alone and crying the way you are"? • 8. Perseverance Essay What is perseverance? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless. It is also a measure of success, or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success. As students, it is impossible to achieve personal success without having a goal, or direction. The goal and direction that often propels us to achieve is perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to forge ahead despite setbacks that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed. We are high school students and that means that the sense of urgency to strive for and to achieve personal success is now. With this urgency comes the expectation of having to persevere. This year has not been as easy one for us as a school body. We have been...show more content... There is no shame in falling; the shame is in accepting the the fall as defeat. Nelson Mandella once said, "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time you fall." That is the essence of persevering––finding the will to get up even though you know you are being counted out. Each day is a challenge for some of us. Some of you struggle to get up each morning and make it to school. But you find it within yourself to do because the hope of a better tomorrow compels you to do so. It is not easy to explain to teachers or other students that there was no one to wake you up and see that you were ready for school. The moment you leave your house and step on the bus, you are one step closer to realizing your dream, to fulfilling your purpose. That is what perseverance is. It is the finding the strength to do the impossible because you know that all things are possible. It is understanding that your tomorrow has great possibilities because of the steps you take today. I had a neighbor whose parents were divorced, but it seems like both parents divorced her. Her mother had custody, but she was seldom around. My friend raised herself. She gave a whole new meaning to the phrase "putting yourself through school", but she was in middle school. However, she had a dream of something better and it was evident that it required self–motivation and determination. We have all been called upon Get more content on HelpWriting.net

A field trip is a tour by students to gain firsthand knowledge away from the classroom, as to a museum, a factory, a geological area, or to an environment of certain plants and animals. Field trips can connect schoolwork with the world, making it tangible and memorable. It stimulates questions and ideas at the beginning or end of a unit. • 10. Meditation Essay Meditation is an age–old practice that has renewed itself in many different cultures and times. Despite its age, however, there remains a mystery and some ambiguity as to what it is, or even how one performs it. The practice and tradition of meditation dates back thousands of years having appeared in many eastern traditions. Meditation's ancient roots cloud its origins from being attributed to a sole inventor or religion, though Bon, Hindu, Shinto, Dao, and later, Buddhism are responsible for its development. Its practice has permeated almost all major world religions, but under different names. It has become a practice without borders, influencing millions with its tranquil and healing effects. Regardless of a new capitalism, which has erupted around meditation, the practice has provided a mental oasis to millions of people strained and made anxious by the stresses of modern life. Meditation is the practice of "bringing the mind home . . . meant to awaken in us the sky–like nature of the mind, and to introduce us to that which we really are, our unchanging pure awareness, which underlies the whole of life and death." (Rinpoche, 2002). Its goal is to relieve the suffering of the mind and lead its practitioners to the enlightenment found by Siddhartha Guatama or the Buddha while he sat beneath the Bodi tree. The mind's home in meditation is a clear, lucid, unaltered state in which the fragmented frames of thought that usually circulates in the untrained mind are set aside and forced out. A mind free of worry and apprehension is at peace and free of suffering. A number of physical and mental exercises are used to bring the mind to this lucid state of natural existence. The four objects of consideration and awareness when meditating are the body, feelings, state of the mind, and the mind's contents. Body positioning during meditation has practical and traditional roots. The posture assumed during meditation resembles the crossed leg position of the Buddha. Although there are many variations of posture and hand placement, they all attempt to create and emphasize the connection Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Essay on Writing Experience My Writing Experiences My experiences in writing have been minimal. I have only learned the basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things like that. Since I have been taking college English, I can tell my writing has improved a lot. In the future, I hope to be able to improve tremendously at writing essays, paragraphs, research papers, documents, and stories so that I have very little to no errors with drafting and final products. My goals are to write papers and not have to reassure myself that maybe I need to do more research or have more data or even have to rethink my whole topic over. I would love to have the knowledge to be a tutor someday and teach other people how to properly write papers, paragraphs, essays, and maybe even books. To have excellent skills in writing will definitely be a great advantage in my nursing profession. In nursing, I will have to do lots of charting on my patients. I will have to do health presentations on various subjects such as exercising, how our society eats, and sex education if I want to be a course instructor. • 12. Essay about Health and Wellbeing In society today, there is an extensive range of definitions of health and wellbeing which can be seen as both positive and negative. A Holistic view can also be identified and defined. These definitions of health have changed over time and will carry on changing within the future. According to where a family lives or their social class everyone will have different meanings and views of health and wellbeing. This may be due to what one person perceives as being healthy as another person may not. Channel 4 learning (no date) describes that a positive view of health can be seen as when a person is more likely to achieve and sustain physical fitness from exercising and are mentally stable. Therefor a negative view can be described when a...show more content... According to Floyd, Mimms and Yelding (2008) Webster's Dictionary defines health as "the condition of being sound in body, mind and spirit... freedom from physical disease or pain." This definition has very much taken the holistic view. Wellbeing is a term in which reflects on the positive emphasis on health and can be broken down into six aspects know as environmental, physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual. To achieve a high balance of wellbeing it is vital that a person is able to balance and take care of each aspect effectively. Underdown (2007) implies that in 1948 the World Health Organization(WHO) defines health as 'a state of complete physical, mental and social well–being and not just the absence of disease or infirmity.' This definition took a holistic view as it mentions mental and social wellbeing and it was supported as it focused on a person being healthy rather than not being ill. However, this definition has been widely criticized. Seedhouse (1986) believed that for someone to be in perfect state of health is unachievable and unrealistic. There is a wide range of major genetic, social and environmental factors which influence the health and wellbeing of children in today's society. According to The Marmot Review (2011) the more deprived the area or district which a child lives in, the more likely it is to have social and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Essay about My Core Values Tamneicha Mcdavid Prof.Beck ENC 1101 July 30, 2009 Example Essay My Core Values As I have grown as an adult and moved further towards success in my life, I have always maintained a guided structure to achieve goals and tasks that challenge me. I call these my "Core Values". This is a strict regimen or a belief system that I have instilled into my everyday practice to complete any task that presents itself. Although not perfected, I have found this method to be quite successful. My work ethic, responsibility, and my drive to further my education and knowledge have never failed me. To build responsibility as a child I volunteered to take care of my family dog. Even though she was the family's pet I took it upon myself to make sure she was properly fed, watered, and walked. My mother was very proud of my new development as an adolescent. She became very encouraging and would come up with other special chores around the house that I could be relied upon to handle. To some children this would seem like a punishment, but both of my parents were so supportive and persuasive that I looked forward to having the gained accountability. My father instituted honesty and respect as monuments for responsibility. I of course struggled at times with taking care of my dog, and handling some of my other chores. But my father always wanted me to not only be honest with my parents, but also with myself. He stated that a lie would not benefit anybody and it was disrespectful to tell a lie. He would tell me that a liar was the same as a cheater, and nobody liked either. If I knew how to respect others and be honest, than my responsibility would only increase. I asked why I would want added responsibility and my father told me two things that changed my perspective completely. First, it was that responsible people always tended to be more successful. Since I had always dreamed of growing up to be rich and famous, I guess I could accept the added responsibility. The second thing he told me was that one day I could possibly Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Whether it's a short or long term survival; effort, great thought and preparation must be put in place for it to be successful. Likewise deciding to remain alone or join forces with an assemblage is an essential decision that must be made. Many movies and books portray the lone wolf braving the situation unaccompanied and valiant.
