Personal Reflection
Research
Closing down The Art Institute wasn’t easy on anyone. It was a
shock to my system. Intense stress followed and it
feels as if I’m in a dream. A twilight zone that I’m eagerly
waiting to get out of.
“ What happened to the students of The Art Institute isn’t easy
on anyone. It’s a shock to their system. It can result
in a variety of reactions feeling numb or disconnected from
reality being one of them. Some may describe it as a
”twilight zone” a state between reality and fantasy. Having a
positive support system right now is vital. With their
resilience, creative problem solving and positive coping
mechanisms they’ll get through it. I’m hopeful. Good luck
to all of you, you’re much more capable than you think. “

What dose the art institute of Seattle mean to you ?
It’s the reason of destroying my future and watching it collapse
in front of me, and wasting 4 years of my life.
When did they announce that The Art Institute of Seattle will
close. How did you react?
It’s been the hardest month for me since I moved to the US.
After they closed the Art Institute of Seattle, what did you feel?
Actually, all I was thinking of is how can I get my documents
and the diploma and get back to my home right away.
Describe your situation now?
I am currently very depressed and have trust issues, especially
here in the United States, and I would recommend
anyone who wants to complete his study that does not come to
the US.

What dose the art institute of Seattle mean to you ?
It meant a lot to me before. It used to feel home but it doesn’t
mean anything to me now
6. When did they announce that The Art Institute of Seattle will
close. How did you react?
I don’t exactly remember when, but they only gave us two days
notices. I got a little bit happy because I knew that god made a
better plan
for me, but I got depressed for a few days
After they closed the Art Institute of Seattle, what did you feel?
I felt lost! Didn’t know where to go or what to do
Describe your situation now?
Everything is going well now! I found a new school and I’m
still healthy and alive.

YOUR VERSION OF THE EXAM WILL BE EMAILED TO
YOU SHORTLY FOLLOWING CLASS ON TUESDAY!!!
How to prepare for the exam that will be released on April 23rd
after the review session in class. It will be due (submitted to
Blackboard) by 11:59pm on Friday the 26th. We will have a
drop-in lab in place of lecture on Thursday the 25th. Come with
your computers and questions! No late assignments will be
accepted!
THE EXAM (for the most part) REQUIRES DOING EXACTLY
WHAT YOU DID IN LAB. The difference – you will have a
different data set (Air BnB locations, prices, etc)
If you feel confident in your lab work you will ace the exam.
There are also some short answer questions based on what we
covered in lecture. You can prepare for these questions by going
through the lectures and labs.
Statistics/Data/Math Issues
1. What were some of the reasons we discussed in class for
student math failure? What are of the some of the solutions we
discussed in class? (lecture)
2. What are some of the reasons you personally fail at math?
(lecture)
3. What is cognitive load theory – how can we apply it to math
failure? Can you identify solutions to cognitive overload?
(lecture)
4. Why is visualization important to the way we analyze and
understand data? (lecture)

Ordinal, Ratio) (Discrete or Continuous)
6. Can you identify if a relationship between variables is
positive or negative? (correlation) (lecture)
7. Can you read and interpret a standard deviation (normal)
curve given an average and standard deviation? (the curve we
went over on the board) (lecture)
8. Do you know what an outlier is? Can you place it on the
normal curve? (lecture)

What resonates true about this gif?
Why is Math Hard? Cognitive Load Theory
Working memory vs. Long-Term Memory
Cognitive Load Theory is about how to best present new
information to working memory
Working memory can only hold 4 or 5 bits of information
Unfamiliar stimulus can be overwhelming and disable long-term
memory (schema)
21. Cognitive Overload
Too many things you don’t understand
Unfamiliar examples
Unknown vocab
Words used out of their usual context
Puzzling symbols
Structure of text/information is new
Solution
– get comfortable/start from a familiar place. Build a Bridge.
