5. Outsourcing Models Before jumping right into looking at oneself as a consultant, this course will look at the role consultants play in the marketplace. What creates the need for this role? What are the different relationships that exist between consultants and organizations?
6. Decision Process An important part of being an internal or external consultant is understanding the reasons that determine whether or not to outsource; and which consultant to choose.
7. Value Proposition A consultant being passion about their idea or product is not always enough… If a consultant would like to be reimbursed for this idea or product, then the marketplace will need to see the value in it. The better the consultant is at articulating that value AND aligning it with a market need, the more valuable the product/service.
8. The Business Strategy In this course we will dive right into the strategy of consulting; who, why, how, what.
9. Return On Investment (ROI) Not the favorite topic of “people” people, yet, a real part of life as a consultant and business professional. Now, more than ever, decision-makers want to know what the return on their investment (ROI) is. The ability to provide this and articulate it in a language the business customer can understand is a crucial part of being in business.
10. Tools & Forms This class will provide the opportunity to utilize contracts and other common tools of the consulting industry. The course text, The Consultant’s Toolkit, is an invaluable resource for tools of the trade.
11. Application… Of course, what good would the learning be if we were not able to apply our learning? Throughout the course we will be looking at actual case studies with the text, Building A Successful Consulting Practice. Additionally students will have the opportunity to create real or mock products/services to apply the concepts.
