2. Insidious 2 (2013)
What did I like about the trailer?
• I really liked the way bricolage was used in the trailer, contrasting the typical ‘and they all
lived happily after’ genre of film, with the spooky horror. Also the way they used the child toy
to break the genres up, because children are innocent which relates back to their toys, but in
fact the spirit haunting the house is not innocent.
• I love the music used for each part of the genre, as it sets the exact mood the characters in
the film would be feeling. E.g. the more mellow sweet song with lyrics ‘All will be better
when you’re with me.’ It is basically foreshadowing the unnatural visitors later on in the
trailer.
• I really liked the style of the house, as most horror stories are based in a fairly big house, with
the echoing rooms and creaky floorboard. They modernised it by the modern day large
house but with old furniture, big heavy doors etc.
• The children's spooky toys covered in cobwebs really sets the scene of a typical haunted
house which adds a big of a older element with horror films.
• They are all wearing casual clothes which I like because it is a lot more realistic.
What I don’t like about the trailer?
• I felt that showing the ‘visitors’ faces really ruined the trailer slightly (although we did know
the storyline/ characters from the last film) I felt too much was given away and it doesn’t
leave that element of the audience thinking ‘who is it?!’.
• The spirits haunting the family are quite dull. They simply look just old fashioned. Maybe a
couple of cuts darker round the eyes, would make them look slightly scarier.
3. An impression of the film has been
created by mise en scene by the
whole idea of the child ‘different’
and allowing to attract/talk/see
ghosts is linked in with the whole
film by the mise en scene. This is
done by small clues left in the film
to remind the audience it is the little
boy who started this. This was done
through, children's toys, child like
songs being played, old fashioned
toys, children's rooms, the baby in
the cot, simply the way the mum is
dressed, in a casual top and t-shirt a
typical mum like outfit.
4. The Purge (2013)
What I liked about the trailer?
• I loved the way the long fading cuts at the beginning were all of the setting of the film, look very
peaceful with sunsets, families eating together, laughter, romance etc. and the suddenly completely
ruined with really fast dull black and white shots of a lot of violence, and the fact that it is set up
with the times and dates on the screen which shows privacy has been broken with live cameras
recording ‘peaceful’ town.
• I really like the music from again going very soft, classical, relaxing song, then ruined by the
computer like noises which are quite disturbing loud and annoying compared to the softer music
used.
• I liked the range in violent props they had like guns, weapons, dangerous equipment, fire etc. It
creates more of an excitement and mystery between the audience and the film leaving them
unsure who's using weapons.
• I like how this horror is a lot more different to most, as it is completely different and contains no
paranormal activity, and some that could in fact happen in real life (which make is even more
teffifying). They did this by the use of the big houses, posh suits, computers (other expensive day
to day things used), women wearing dresses and hair is nicely down with makeup, shows they can
afford it. And this is then later contrasted with the wealthy people pleading for help of the people
who aren't so wealthy. In which at this point they have ripped clothing's, messy hair, blood
everywhere, sweaty etc.
What I didn’t like about the trailer?
• I don’t like the music used during the second half of the trailer, I think it just doesn’t fit the film. Its
very church choir like which to me fits a more spiritual film, where as this should have more of an
action kind of upbeat music.
5. An impression of the film has been
created through the setting of the
film, the whole idea of people
getting there own back on people
they wish too is shown by the richer
families having protection from the
new security system. We clearly
know who is rich due to the
houses, the area, how clean it is, the
way the characters are dressed.
However even the horror side the
film the people in the mask have
suits and dresses on. They did fit in
very well with the rich community
they were in.
6. The Conjuring (2013)
What did I like about the trailer?
• Due to It being based on a true story the film was set in the 70’s everything is very old
compared to how we live today. I really like how the house is decorated in a way that it looks
like it hasn’t be changed in years, with the floral print covers, wallpaper, big dusty funiture,
old lamps, pattern carpet/rugs etc.
• I really like the way all the characters have been dressed, as it is very different from todays
clothes. The girls all in dresses, the hair neatly done etc.
• I liked the idea of the match being used because o lighting was very dim to fit the horror
setting however lit enough to see the whole of the mother. Also it fit in well as it was set in
the 70’s is less unusual for them to get out a torch. So the match being lit fit in very well.
• I really like the noises made like the creaky doors and floor board, and loud banging doors
and I think that really adds tension to the film and you don’t know what is happening and it
was very fast past and then began to get slower with the shots which really added on the
tension of the film.
What I didn’t like about the trailer?
• I didn’t like the fact that the majority of the trailer was based at night time, spooky things
should have happened in the day time aswell to make it a little more on going, but not as
severe. For example finding objects in different places during the day etc.
• I found the whole basement story line was very typical as it was all old junk with old toys,
furniture, that the previous owner had left and again I thought that was very unoriginal.

An impression fo the film has
been created through the

wooden house in the middle
of no where. Along with the
very old furniture. The way
they all dressed as well as
them all being very well
spoken. Playing old
fashioned games like hide
and seek introduced the
spirits of the film very well
and it was very
unpredictable.
