Every day children are faced with one major challenge or the other and
they tend to rely on their parents for support. Unfortunately, this is not the
case for most children who survive on the streets, some without parents
and some with parents who can barely take care of them.
These children have been made to pass through certain ordeals and with
no one to turn to , these children are left to fend for themselves. Some die in
the process while the others that managed to survive have little or nothing
to hold on to.
An example is the case of 9-year-old Uche. Rendered homeless by the
painful ordeal that strikes his family, Uche is welcomed by the dark corners
of the slum where he seeks refuge. Another is Ladi, a 7-year-old girl who
sells wares on the sunny streets of Rano in order for her handicapped 50-
year-old mother and two younger siblings to pull through life on a daily
basis.
All these and more are the travails faced by indigent children in our society
today. The Bible says in the book of Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the
way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
(NKJV). A child who is left on the street uneducated tends to cause havoc in
2. the society, and without timely intervention, many grow up to become
notorious criminals.
With the InnerCity Mission’s “Back to School Campaign“, hope is restored
and the child who needs to be off the streets is taken off and given a new
mindset as he embraces the learning process in the four walls of a
classroom.
The society stands to be the greatest beneficiary of this
because education is the antidote to illiteracy and violence in any
country. For every child that is educated, he becomes the hope he longs to
see and the future is realised in him.
Much kudos goes out to the many partners who contribute daily to the
success of this NGO . They have taken on the challenge of the poor through
their ceaseless giving; “Good measure, pressed down, shaken together and
running over will men give unto your bosom.” (Luke 6:38).
Not forgetting the father of these children, the founder of this faith-based
NGO, the President of Believers’ Loveworld Inc. Rev. Dr. Chris
Oyakhilome DSC, DD, for the life-changing vision called the “InnerCity
Mission for Children“; which is committed to breaking the cycle of
poverty and delivering a sustainable solution to the problem of urban and
rural child poverty, giving new destinies to indigent children like Uche and
Ladi.
You too can be a part of this vision by partnering with the InnerCity
