rules and regulations of PRAZ.

.
Objectives cont
• She also highlighted that there was need to understand the ministry’s
doctrine Education 5,0 which is anchored on heritage based
philosophy.
• Last but not least, she indicated that there was need to value our
main stakeholder who are the students, to value their time, their
education and also to ensure that we have an error free examination
session.
1st Presentation by Mr Jiti
• Who presented on three topics to which the 1st one was on duties and responsibilities of
LICs, hods and HODivs.
• He highlighted that as leaders , we are responsible for the supervision of other lecturers
through Performance Appraisals whereby we are supposed to get better results from
lecturers and other staff by understanding and managing performance within an agreed
framework of planned goals. He indicated that we shouldn’t do appraisals for the sake of
compliance.
• He talked about management of state property where he mentioned that it is our duty to
make sure that the assets are safeguarded and we should put systems to protect them.
• He also mentioned the issue of record keeping where he said we should be able to keep
records safely and failure to provide them is an act of misconduct.
• The presenter also highlighted that as leaders we should be able to identify training gaps by
knowing the strengths and weaknesses of our subordinates and then implement staff
development programmes.
• It was as well indicated that we should be initiators of research and we need to encourage
our students and other lecturers to be innovative.
Research cont
• This is where he indicated that our institution should be a research
centre and we need to advantage of the current problems and turn
them into opportunities.
• The presenter talked about creating communication with industry
and he alluded that there is need to create links and good relations
with industry and create a good name for the institution.
• There was also the issue of team building where we need to work as
one.Need to inculcate team spirit and avoid tibula watibula
attitude. As leaders, we need to blend the different abilities in our
surboodinates and come up with something tangible.
1st pres cont
• There was also an issue of hods and HODS being appointed into different
committees, as leaders we should be able to take them and represent the
department/division/institution but not forgetting that we should also be
seen delivering lectures as it one of our main duties despite the differences
in the workloads.
• We also need to be accountable in everything that we do. Be answerable
and be in control of everything that transpires in your constituency.
• Need for policy formulation in the divisions and involve everyone as some
staff members may come up with brilliant ideas. Give correct advise to
subordinates and where you are not sure or you do not understand,
consult.
cont
• Good analytical skills- Decide on the best desicion to take, lets be
proactive.
• Innovative- urged to create platforms for innovativeness, be open to
change like the ministry has moved from edu 3.0 to edu 5.0 to which
innovation is the 4th aspect.
• Also need to be Visionary i.e moving together with the team to achieve
results. Define and share your vision with others.
• Exercise good interpersonal skills i.e the way you relate with others should
be positive.
• Be a good planner
• Motivator
cont
• Come up with ideas of motivating your followers so they produce results.
• Be an influencer, confident , time conscious
• Be a decision maker- you should be able to make decisions but within your
limit.
• Aim towards self improvement and the improvement of others
academically. Do not be stuck on the qualification that you currently have.’
• The presenter then concluded the topic by saying that a good leader is one
who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.
• i.e you should know, you should do and you should be able to
demonstrate.
1st pre cont
• Report from time to time- As leaders, we are supposed to brief our
superiors on work related issues timeously , briefing them about
events taking place in our divisions.
• Last but not least on this topic,he talked about production where we
are being encouraged to seriously engage in production so as to be
able to sustain our departments.
2nd Topic on Attributes of a good leader
• On his presentation, he first defined a leader as one who provides
direction, who needs to have followers and is an influencer.
• A leader shud be a good communicator who is able to improve
human relations and personal conducts with subordinates. You need
to hold meetings and cascade information to others.
• Good Integrity- Do the right thing and don’t do things to impress or to
be noticed by superiors. Your actions should be straight.
• Be responsible and accountable, when things go wrong, do not play
the blame game. As leaders, we should be quick in admitting mistakes
and if one of your team leaders makes a mistake, represent them,
take the blame but when you go back, sit down and correct.
3rd Topic on supervision skills
• He stated that it was very important to have supervisory skills as leaders.
• We need to be proactive and be able to set standards.
• Also the issue of creativity- Allow suboodinates to bring in new ideas to improve performance.
• Quick thinker- we have to be alert, grasp new ideas as fast as we can,
• We need to have Technical Expertise- that is know your job and be able to quickly give advise.
• He also emphasized the point of need to Have Self Control where he highlighted that we should not lose
temper and avoid being controlled by emotions. We should be very careful on the way we react to situations
thus we need emotional intelligence.
• Be a good listener- Give your subodinates time to express their views and have time to listen, be
approachable.
• Accept responsibility when things go wrong
• Delegation—A supervisor should have the ability to delegate so that deadlines are met.It was clearly
mentioned that failure to delegate automatically means that you do not trust your subordinates.
• Another point to note was the issue conflict resolution where he mentioned that conflict in an organization
is unavoidable therefore should be not ignored and therefore as a leader you need to come up with best
strategies to manage it.
cont
• Then in conclusion we were given an assignment to go and read on
section 196 of the constitution of Zimbabwe Item no 3 which talks
about;
• Objectivity and impartiality
• Honesty in execution of public duties
• Accountability to the public
• Discipline and service commitment.
Mr Mubau
•Who talked about the Korean philosophy
emphasizing that if a glass is half full, it is
ready to accept more, therefore as
Pacesetter brand. We are expected to
engage in disruptive thinking.
•We need to embrace hydro-ponics to our
communities, we have come up with
recommendations to solve problems.
•He also mentioned that we are the link
between management and the rest
