This document discusses key concepts related to Web 2.0, cyberlearning, blogs, wikis, and pin boards. It defines Web 2.0 as allowing for more interaction between users and online content. Cyberlearning is defined as using technology to support learning. Blogs allow for personal commentary, wikis enable collaborative writing, and pin boards organize photos and information. The document provides examples of each and discusses how they could be used in a classroom, noting potential complications around inappropriate content, privacy, and ensuring accuracy of information.

Web 2.0 and Cyberlearning Explained
1.
2. WHAT IS WEB 2.0
• Web 2.0 addresses the change in how the Internet is used now, as
opposed to how it started. Web 2.0 is the name for the sector of the
internet that allows for productivity and interaction between the user
and the content on the pages in front of them.
- goes beyond passively viewing content and webpages.
• Web 2.0 creates an environment where people are interacting with the
information themselves instead of just reading and absorbing
information. It allows them the chance to use their communication skills
to share information with others.
3. WHAT IS CYBERLEARNING?
• Cyberlearning, according to our text, “is the use of networked
computing and communication technologies to support learning.
• Cyberlearning is important because it brings a the world into your
classroom. Cyberlearning allows for finding and transmitting
knowledge in a very community-centered way. Students in informal
learning environments are left alone to explore the world wide web and
find information on their own. Students use technology to their
advantage, to increase knowledge retention and communication skills.
4. BLOGS
A “blog” or a “web-log” is a personal set of commentaries surrounding a
specific topic.
• In my classroom, it will be important for students to find their own
voices as writers. Blogs will help them become more comfortable
expressing themselves. Students will learn how to format, and create
their own blog, Students will then make biweekly posts, on whatever
crosses their mind. Students will be assigned a new blog buddy
biweekly. They will exchange links, and constructively criticize their
peers’ work.

5. WIKIS
Wikis ( according to the text ) are resources that allow for collaborative
writing and editing. The website provides the original information or
resource, but the floor is open to all who are willing to add anything, or
make edits on anything that may be incorrect.
• I believe in using classroom wikis on the topics students are learning in
class. Class wikis will be used for students to pass knowledge amongst
themselves. I will start each unit’s wiki site, and allow the children
access to be able to add, or take out pieces. I will oversee all activity on
the wiki to make sure none of the information stays incorrect (teaching
students the wrong information) or none of the content becomes
inappropriate.

6. PIN BOARDS
Pin boards allow for the organization of photos, and information into digital
boards. I would organize the board by lesson and grade level, so the
children will always have access to what information they are/will be
learning.
• Students will learn how to pin any questions, comments, or ideas, they
have to the board.

7. COMPLICATIONS
• As always, students having access to innappropriate information is
quite unnerving for parents and teachers. Students should be
monitored as closely as possible.
• Secondly, students may or may not be of age to know not to give out
too much information in common places on the web. Student security
and privacy should be protected.
• Thirdly, incorrect information is scattered sporadically across the
internet. It is important to make sure students explore and find their
own information, however it is important to know that what they are
studying and retaining, is the correct information.
