Analysing Kerrang! Magazine Charlotte Bonnell
The masthead interferes with the main background image and is large and has an effect of being cracked and is black. This may link to the target audience of seeming quite dark and loud. By using a flasher saying ‘world exclusive’ it instantly gives the impression of being quite important and persuading the reader to read more. The main coverline is large, and gives the band name and the coverline underneath is a small insight to the article. A header is used to show what else is included. Stars are used as bullet points but gives it the sense of being more important. The selling lines are mainly all together, the rule of thirds is used also, which makes it tidier and easier for the reader to focus on. A provocative image of a woman in a sexual position attracts more than just the target audience too, especially younger males, this technique is used in many magazines to pull in more than one niche audience.  Footer. This is also another way of showing what else is included.
A large image is mostly always used to dominate the page and catch the eye. It is usually linked to a small article about the magazine. The headings are all kept in simple fonts and colours to fit with the style of magazine, it also doesn’t seem too overpowering and is laid out in a sophisticated way. Small articles are spread across the page too, giving the page number to the whole story. Masthead. Uses the same font as front cover. Image of the editor is used. A small amount of text introducing the magazine and relating to the reader.  Divided into sections to make it easier to locate where different articles can be found. Subscription. Gives details to the contact which you can use to apply for Kerrang every issue. Flasher. To advertise sponsorships of the magazine.
Drop Capital used (4-5 lines down) always used in magazines.  Double page spread is image dominated, to give the reader more interest about the band. Interview also included.  Quotes from interview which are more interesting.  Smaller images don’t seem as important.  Small text about band and who they are.  Colour co ordinated clothing on band, seems stylish and in fashion. Page still divided into rule of thirds.
