2. HUMAN – RAG ‘N’ BONE MAN
• Human is a gospel, soul, melodic rock song by British singer-songwriter
Rory Graham commonly know as Rag ‘N’ Bone Man. It was released on
21st July 2016 and was featured in his 2017 debut album, Rory holds a
record label with Columbia records and Sony.
• The song “Human” is a song which expresses anger against the human
condition and the inability of humans to be perfect or even fix many of
the “real problems” in life.
• Through the music and the visuals it shows that no one is perfect, and
everyone has there own differences.
3. CONCEPT
• My main idea behind using the song Human for my music video is so show progress,
through out the music video I’ll be showing the development of students and the
pressures which they face during their school life. The music video will start off very
fast paced showing young children playing with no care in the world, gradually the
video will become slow paced as the age of the children increases. As the music video
goes on and the age of the child increases I’ll include the pressures and side effects of
having to fit in at school, make new friends and take exams. From this I will progress to
show the pressure of becoming a mature student and having to make life changing
decisions like going to university.
• I feel my idea will suit the meaning behind the song as its carrying on the serious tone
showing that everyone has struggles and difficulties to over come and sometimes it
may be hard to do so, however you shouldn't let them define the success and abilities
you have which subsequently shows that no one is perfect.
4. AUDIENCE
• The target audience for my music video is teenagers, I will represent the
target audience by using actors of similar age when it comes to
portraying the struggles that students face. By using actors of a similar
age to that of my target audience it will make it easier for the target
audience to relate to and understand the narrative of the music video.
• The pace of editing I'm intending to use will also help create the
relationship between music video and target audience. Face pace
editing will show the fast, exciting life style that the majority of
teenagers like to live, which will appeal to the audience as that’s what
they are used to doing. However, as the editing becomes slower it will
show the audience that they need to slow down and appreciate what
they have.
5. MISE EN SCENE
• Location
For the first part of my idea I will be using a naturalistic setting for younger years, this
will include the usual child friendly back garden or a play park. From this point onwards
will be using school environments ranging from primary school to upper school and
finally finishing with sixth form and university.
• Costumes
While showing the stage of being a young child with no care in the world ill have them
dressed in unbranded trousers and a t-shirt (temperature dependent) and slowly as the
video progresses the actors will be wearing school uniform and I'll start introducing
branded clothing and display the idea of needing to fit in. and then move on to
individual clothing for the sixth form and university section of my media video.
6. MISE EN SCENE
• Lighting
During the first part of the music video the lighting will be bright and color full to show
happiness and joy which surrounds most children. As the music video progressed
ill start to darken the colors to show that school and education isn't necessarily a happy
moment in children's life's. Also during editing I intend to use color manipulation to
reinforce the idea that children are surrounded by a happy environment.
• Props
The normal props that surround school life will be used with in the music video such as
bags pencil cases and books. But as the music video reaches the stage of being in
school ill introduce typical items that are associated with both or one gender such as
makeup and phones. Finally for the younger years the props will be toys and play
equipment like a trampoline.
7. VISUALS
• Camera work
For the higher level school settings ill use multiple POV shots along with a mixture of
close up's and and wide angle shots. On the other hand for the younger years I will be
using high angle shots to show age and long shots to show their surroundings. All of
the camera work will include a tripod or hand held thing so there will be no unstable of
shaky shots.
• Editing
During the editing I will cut to the beat of the music and I will also use split screen as a
comparison of the different age stages. I also intend to speed up the fist part of the
music video but then gradually slow it down as it progresses, ill do this to reinforce the
idea that as a child you have nothing to worry about and have no idea of time but as
get older things take longer and time is more controlled.
8. I'm only human
I'm only, I'm only
I'm only human,
human
Don't ask my opinion
Don't ask me to lie
Then beg for forgiveness
For making you cry
Making you cry
'Cause I'm only human after
all
I'm only human after all
Don't put your blame on me
Don't put the blame on me
Maybe I'm foolish
Maybe I'm blind
Thinking I can see through
this
And see what's behind
Got no way to prove it
So maybe I'm blind
But I'm only human after all
I'm only human after all
Don't put your blame on me
Don't put your blame on me
Take a look in the mirror
And what do you see
Do you see it clearer
Or are you deceived
In what you believe
'Cause I'm only human after all
You're only human after all
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put your blame on me
Some people got the real problems
Some people out of luck
Some people think I can solve them
Lord heavens above
I'm only human after all
I'm only human after all
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put the blame on me
Oh, some people got the real
problems
Some people out of luck
Some people think I can solve them
Lord heavens above
I'm only human after all
I'm only human after all
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put the blame on me
I'm only human
I make mistakes
I'm only human
That's all it takes
To put the blame on me
Don't put the blame on me
I'm no prophet or Messiah
Should go looking somewhere higher
I'm only human after all
I'm only human after all
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put the blame on me
I'm only human
I do what I can
I'm just a man
I do what I can
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put your blame on me
