Thriller work- Analysis of the film‘Se7en’ (seven)
Imagery usedandfontsfor text:
Effects: Sound
There were multiplesoundsinthe openingtitlessuchasscreeching,randomnoises(suchas
banging),whatseemedtobe the rattlingof chainsandscreaming whichconnotes thatthe movie is
dark and evil andwouldhave people suffering. (Whencombinedwiththe musicthe genre ismade
evencreepier.)
Editing
The editingconsistedof short, sharpshotsof filmwhichgivesaninsighttothe filmforthe viewers
but doesnotgive enoughawaymeaningyouwouldhave towatchthe movie toget an
understandingof what’sgoingon(leavesyouquestioning the plote.g.why there are somanypieces
of writing?Whatare theyrecording?)
Music
The music was sinistersounding andwassimilartoparanormal programswhichgive the impression
the movie isgoingto have mysteryaswell aspossible deathrelatedtoit.
Camera angles
Focused awayfromthe face whichconnotesthe person’sidentityneedstobe hiddenorthe
storyline will be compromised (thisgivesthe element of mysteryforthe thriller.)
The imagery used is very dark and evil which can give a brief
insighton what the filmwill consistof. If you look at the
condition that that persons hand is in,you can tell that this
particularthriller isgoingto have some strong violentor weird
content. This will leavethe viewer feelinguncomfortable and
you would question the contents of the movie e.g. why is that
persons hand likethat? They could also showhow dark and
twisted the characters/ protagonistswill be.
The visuals switches from both dark/peculiar images to a
light, flashing text (they contrast one another which in turn
makes the font stand out) not only giving the viewer
knowledge of key people who participated in the movie, but
the flashing createsa nauseating effect for viewers.
The text flashes repeatedly and by having a reflection or
mirrored effect makes the viewer feel confused and
disorientated. The writing its self is very childlike and
sloppy which usually connects to thriller films as the font is
strange and leaves the viewer feeling uneasy.
