Audience profiling is a task set by media institutions when creating a certain
product to launch into the market.These products can be based upon
filming, magazines, albums, websites etc.
When defining an audience, there are many factors that must be considered
so a company knows who they are wanting to target their product at,
throughout promotion.These factors that must be considered are….
Age, Gender, Race and Sexuality
Education
Occupation
Income
Lifestyle
Culture
Media Interests
3. Demographics
A device used for audience profiling is known as a demographic which
defines the adult population in regards to their lifestyle.
Demographics are broken down into 6 different groups.
A Bankers, lawyers, doctors and other professionals
B Middle management – teachers, graphic designers etc.
C1 Junior mangers, nurses, white collar
C2 Skilled manual workers – builders , plumbers
D Semi skilled and unskilled workers
E Unemployed, students, pensioners etc
4. Psychographics
Psychographics are the way in which we
describe an audience by looking at their
behaviour and personality. Depending on social
status this aspect looks upon why and how
people use media products for specific purposes.

6. Who is the Groups Audience?
From our research carried out we now know who we would be potentially
target in terms of our music videos primary target demographic.
The purpose of the music video is to primarily entertain and show off the
artists talents as well as to promote other media products in relation to
the video itself.Therefore in terms of Psychographics an audience for the
music video we will be creating would be placed in the Explorers
category, as this audience seeks discovery in terms of experiencing and
gaining satisfaction.
This audience would be most common from a younger demographic
population such as students, which would then categorise our music
videos demographics in the E group.
Overall this would be the most suitable target demographic for the
groups video as the genre of indie/pop is mostly familiarised by a
younger generation of adult.
7. How will the Group Target
our Audience?
Now that we have discovered that the
group has a target audience of a younger
demographic population we will promote
our music video using social networking
sites such as Facebook andTwitter as
there is higher usage of these media
platforms in term of our demographic.
This will help to promote the video and
help our artist serve recognition which
will help to create more awareness.
Another promotional aspect will be
creating 2 other media products being an
album/CD cover and tour poster to create
more awareness and widen our
demographic recognition of the artist.
