2. Tim O’Sullivan: Narrative theory
• Tim O'Sullivan said that all media texts tell a story and all narratives
have a common theme throughout. Through careful meditation,
media texts offer a way of telling stories about ourselves and the
story as a culture.
• This is shown within my products, as I have a very clear storyline and
narrative throughout, about a girl going through a break-up, which is
very obvious to the audience. This narrative may reflect as aspect of
todays culture.
3. Genre-related style and iconography-
Goodwin
• Most producers use a certain style and repeat certain actions within
music videos, to make this recognisable and a ‘trade mark’ for the
artist. This may also represent the style of music and genre within the
video.
• This is applied within my music video, as it uses and conforms to the
style which you would expect to see within a pop music video and
uses repetition throughout the products, to create a ‘trade mark’ and
brand image for the artist.
4. Star theory- Richard Dyer
• Within the theory, the star as a commodity refers to the way in which
artists use merchandise and posters, to create a profit.
• This can be applied to my promotional package, as the main aim of a
promotional package is to reach an audience, have an affect on them
and generate more profit.
