5 Connections between Globalization
                 and education
#1 Challenge: View of teaching as a Profession

Rationale: Teachers from other countries are placed in high regards
and valued. These countries standardized test scores are high. In
America being a teacher is sometimes looked down upon. America is
falling further behind in standardized test scores and teachers are
being blamed for not doing an adequate job.

How this may affect a secondary student: Not every teacher in the
classroom is highly qualified to teach. There are some teachers that
are in classroom that are not quality teachers . When quality teachers
are not in place this will in turn affect standardized test scores.
5 Connections between Globalization
                 and education
#2 Challenge: In America there is a culturally diverse
group of teachers needed in the classroom.

Rationale: In America we see a large amount of Caucasian female teachers.
There are current trends that show this is the case now and will continue to be in
the future as well. Despite this we still see the American society as it continues
to “brown.” This needs to be addressed in every educational program throughout
 the United States.

How this may affect a secondary student: In America we must be
culturally sensitive to all students. We need a culturally diverse group
of teachers in the classrooms to truly embrace diversity. If we
continue to have a large amount of Caucasians female teachers in the
classroom this can have a negative lasting effect on America.
5 Connections between Globalization
                 and education
#3 Issue: Common Core Implementation
Rationale: The United Sates for the most part is undergoing a major
shift in standards. There have been 48 states that have agreed to
implement common core. It will be very interesting to see how each
individual state will keep somewhat of their own identity.

How this may affect a secondary student: A lot of educators are afraid
that students will fail the new assessments that will follow Common
Core. The main drive behind implementing Common Core is to hopefully
get America back on the right track so that we are academically sound.
Common Core is going to allow students the opportunity to compete on a
 global scale.
5 Connections between Globalization
                 and education
#4 Trend, Issue, and Challenge: Length of
 School Year
Rationale: The majority of other countries have longer school years than the
United States. There data shows that these students are academically stronger
students . We see in America where a lot of districts are still on an agricultural
schedule. Farming in America use to be a really big thing, but now we see where
farming is not on the same scale as it once was in America., yet no one really
farms on a scale that we once did.

How this may affect a secondary student: We understand in the educational
world that students and teachers need breaks . We need to look at the twelve
weeks off in the summer and possible come up with a new calendar where there
wouldn’t be such a long extended break. As educators we need to hold education
high and consider that we are doing our kids an injustice of having such a long
break where daily learning is not taking place.
5 Connections between Globalization
                 and education
#5 Trend: Technology Integration
Rationale: Technology has been a real big push in education. The need for
technology has increased over the years. No longer do students just sit in class
looking at big thick textbooks. Students are embracing technology whether it
involves a laptop, eReader, iPad, or etc.

How this may affect a secondary student: As educators we realize the
importance of integrating multi-media devices in our classrooms. Our students
are suppose to have 21st century skills in regards to technology. Our students love
using varies forms of technology. So, therefore as educators we must embrace
technology and use it every opportunity we are given.
