Technology Foundation.
tOctober 2001: NAF-HNC initiative “Technology
Bridging to Economic Justice” awarded $80K
tSpring 2002: “Computer Technology for Micro-
entrepreneurs” offered thru HNC.
tLatino 1 Cohort started Feb. 7th (20 sessions)
tVietnamese 1 Cohort started Feb. 19th (5 sessions)
tLatino 2 Cohort started April 22nd (6 sessions)

Project ObjectivesProject Objectives
t During the two-year grant, three groups of micro entrepreneurs each
will enroll in a 20-week computer training certificate program at Holy
Names College designed to meet their particular business development
plan.
t These micro entrepreneurs will be selected from those participating in
NAF’s business incubator program.
t All participants will be from Hispanic or Indochinese low-income
households suffering from the digital divide.
t Upon completion of the program, micro entrepreneurs will be able to
perform basic- and intermediate-level telecommunications (e-mail, on-
line chat, web search) and standard computer business operations
(invoices, spreadsheets, shipping and receiving statements, financial
statements, and written correspondence).
t Program participants will also be able to use a computer, access the
internet for business research, marketing of their products and
networking on-line with business mentors and colleagues;

Students will learn about C: drives, A: drives, directories, saving documents, and
printing files through in-class lectures and hands-on exercises in the HNC
computer lab. They will also be introduced to basic keyboard functions, the
Windows operating system and basic computing, file management and document
creation operations.
Students will learn basic and intermediate browser basics, web-searching
techniques, e-mail and chat room correspondence while sharpening skills learned
in Module 1
Accelerated business communications coursework, including lectures, readings
from guided web-searches, and role playing where students will learn MSWord
word processing & PPPT use while also studying basic terminologies and
grammatical structures and grammatical anomalies associated with North American
English. Students will also learn about the differences that exist when contrasting
North American business etiquette and behaviors with their own culture’s
expectations and interpretations as regards business etiquette by producing short,
directed assignments.
Employing hands-on training and lectures, students will study basic business math
fundamentals while using these concepts in several business computing
applications found in Excel & QuickBooks. A written report or business plan to the
instructor explaining current financial status with supporting balance sheet would
serve as the final project and would also be presentable to a bank.

Students will learn basic and intermediate browser basics, web-searching techniques, e-mail and chat room correspondence while sharpening skills learned in Module 1 Accelerated business communications coursework, including lectures, readings from guided web-searches, and role playing where students will learn MSWord word processing & PPPT use while also studying basic terminologies and grammatical structures and grammatical anomalies associated with North American English. Students will also learn about the differences that exist when contrasting North American business etiquette and behaviors with their own culture’s expectations and interpretations as regards business etiquette by producing short, directed assignments. Employing hands-on training and lectures, students will study basic business math fundamentals while using these concepts in several business computing applications found in Excel & QuickBooks. A written report or business plan to the instructor explaining current financial status with supporting balance sheet would serve as the final project and would also be presentable to a bank.
