3. 3. Part 1 Baseline ICT Standards
 4. 4. What are Baseline ICT Standards?

Baseline ICT standards refer to the minimum attainment of generic ICT skills applicable across subjects that can support students in learning and to prepare them for future needs.

Also has a cyberwellness focus:

Ethical and legal use

Safe and responsible use

 5. 5. Cyberwellness focus

Ethical & Legal Use

Respect intellectual property

Safe & Responsible Use

Protect private information

Avoid computer addiction

Manage security risks

Verify information sources

 6. 6. Generic ICT Skills

Basic Operations e.g. accessing drives and opening files

Learning with Searches e.g. use of online search engines to look for researches, data, images, etc

Learning with Text e.g. use of Microsoft to write, edit and even format essays

Learning with Multimedia e.g. Powerpoint presentation, digital story

Learning with Spreadsheet e.g. use of Microsoft Excel to do statistical analysis such as median

Learning with Communication Tools e.g. email, blogs, wikis

Learning with Data Collection Tools e.g. use of Data Logger to collect or transfer data

 7. 8. Ownership of each skill area

Learning with text – EL Dept

Learning with multi-media - Humanities

Learning with searches – Craft & Tech Dept

Learning with spreadsheets – Maths Dept

Learning with communication tools – MT Dept

Learning with data collection tools – Science Dept

 8. 9. Expectation of teachers

The standards are generic and are to be integrated into core subject areas and project work.

Lesson ideas for teachers use can be found in The ICT Connection .

 9. 10. Structure

7 generic IT skill areas over 4 progressive key stages

Key Stage 1 – Primary 1 to 3

Key Stage 2 – Primary 4 to 6

Key Stage 3 – Sec 1 & 2

Key Stage 4 – Sec 3 to 5/Pre-uni

Different attainment level at each key stage

 10. 11. Example

Pupils are expected to be able to create documents for different purposes such as newsletters, reports and pamphlets at the end of secondary school education. Thus, they progress from creating short texts in Key Stage 1 to short paragraphs with punctuation and symbols in Key Stage 2, then to creating pages of text in a document in Key Stage 3, culminating in the application of these skills in Key Stage 4.

 11. 12. Outcomes at each key stage

Key Stage 3

Pupils will

1. Work in an interactive media environment

2. Refine searches and collaborate using the Internet

3. Organise text using word processor

4. Create presentation/document that can directly access a variety of sources and produce multimedia elements

5. Manage, process and present graphically large data sets using spreadsheets

6. Export and process data using ICT tools

 12. 13. Outcomes at each key stage

Key Stage 4

Pupils will be able to:

1. Locate, evaluate and synthesize reliable information from multiple Internet sources

2. Communicate, collaborate and distribute media using the Internet

3. Manipulate multimedia elements and create a range of media products

4. Analyse and interpret data using spreadsheets

5. Employ ICT tools independently to collect, export and process different kinds of data and media

 13. 14. Basic Operations

Key Stage 3

Navigate in an Interactive Media Environment

Key Stage 4

As per Key Stage 3

 14. 15. Learning with Searches - Internet navigation and search

Key Stage 3

Refine Internet Searches

Key Stage 4

Locate, select and use resources (e.g. online public libraries, encyclopedias) to enhance learning of curriculum topics (e.g. simulation to explore the effects of changing conditions such as a Tsunami)

 15. 16. Learning with Text - Word processing

Key Stage 3

Edit and Format Pages of Text

Key Stage 4

Use the word processor frequently with accuracy and efficiency to complete assignments
