Those of us who have been attending such conferences for decades understand that some are
interesting. Others are not. A cramped room and uninspiring speaker can make you feel like you
wasted your money, not to mention your time. That said, I have found over the years that I can do
things to help make sure I get the most from these events.
The first piece of advice I have for my fellow pharmacists is to attend such conferences. Go ahead.

Avis et al (2010) state that historically, only occupations such as Doctors, Solicitors, the Clergy and
Bank Managers were worthy of the title of being called a "Professional". However they go on to say
that this has changed over time to the point whereby much more diverse groups are describing
themselves within the category of being professional to the point that the term becomes
meaningless. That said, they do agree that a professional should hold a set of specific skills and
knowledge that are gained through a certain amount of training and "should be used for the benefit

How Professionalism Is Important For Patient Care
Professionalism in nursing is a key component to have. The nurse that exhibits professionalism can
go far in a career. As nurses identify strengths and weaknesses, careers can change for the better.
The strengths that I see in myself are optimism, good listener, and quick learner. When I think about
who I am as a nurse, I don't focus on tasks and to do lists. Although skills are important for patient
care, there are psychosocial aspects that should be addressed. Optimism can mean the difference in a
patient's outlook. The first example is when I walked onto the unit one day; a family member
approached me and told me that it was nice to see a smiling face. That meant a lot to me. Patients
and their families both experience hardships and emotional changes when someone is sick or hurt.
Leading me to the next example, being optimistic when my patients fear that they may not return to
their former state of independence and acknowledging their concerns. Many patients have these
valid fears, and being the positive outlook instead of agreeing with them sometimes helps get them
to the finish line. The second strength, being a good listener, is extremely important for similar

The Clinical Experience Of Intern At Multiple Sites
This is the last semester of my radiologic sciences bachelor program. Throughout the many months,
there have been countless situations which prompted me to form and execute decisions which have
led to a patient's well being. Although this is a subjective statement, I genuinely believe that I was
able to impact many of my patients in a positive fashion. From experience it seemed that patients
understood my intention and allowed themselves to trust me. The clinical experience this program
has entailed is outstanding in respect to the other programs. I was given the opportunity to intern at
multiple sites ranging from Santa Clarita to East LA to Santa Monica. With that being said, the
demographics in these areas are so different and allowed me to adjust to various ethnic and social
groups. The following examples are situations, which occurred throughout my final fall semester.
During my one week rescheduling at Olive View, I was given a requisition for a chest x–ray.
Although at first glance it seemed like a normal two view chest x–ray on a middle aged woman with
a possible indication for tuberculosis (TB) due to a positive quantiFERON. Upon arriving and
calling the patients name out, I immediately noticed that she was pregnant. I asked her why she
needed to get an x–ray and responded by letting me know that she was going to have her baby soon
