1. Getting Ready For Driving Lessons – Part 1
Normally, the minimum are for learning the drive in the UK is 17 years of age. You also need to
have a valid provisional driving licence and these are issued by the Driver and Vehicle Standards
Agency, DVSA.
You can apply for your provisional from the age of 15 years 9 months but you'll need to be 17 years
to drive a car on the UK public road.

To drive safely a driver should have good sound eyesight. Legally, drivers must be able to read a
vehicle registration plate from at least the minimum distance of 20 metres in good daylight
conditions. You can wear glasses or contact lenses to do this and these should be worn whenever you
drive if you need them to see clearly.
