While every bar or coffee shop has a certain "flavor" and that is why someone will choose one bar or another, the
flavor is only surface deep. The business model of the establishment is to sell alcohol and provide a social setting.
Beyond these two values, there is little other genuine value that the establishments try to provide.
Lagon Cafe is distinguished by the fact that their business model concentrates on developing value for customers
beyond serving drinks.

CAFÉ SOCIETY, A TIMELESS ALLURE
LINGERING OVER COFFEE IN THE COMPANY OF OTHERS IS A RITUAL THAT NEVER LOSES ITS
APPEAL: MUCH HAS CHANGED OVER THE GENERATIONS, BUT THE GLOBAL 'CAFÉ SOCIETY '
KEEPS IT TIMELESS GLAMOUR
In 1971, Starbucks was just a single bar in Seattle's market plaza. Ten years later, the one location had become
five, and the company began importing their own blends of coffee. The legend surrounding the birth of Starbucks
tells of Howard Schulz, one of the company's buyers, making a trip to Italy in 1983, and being astounded to learn
that the Country had more than 200,000 cafés selling espresso coffee and that Milan, a city the size of
Philadelphia, had more than 1,500. Why couldn't it be the same in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And who could ignore Paris's oldest literary café Procope, or the city's iconic Cafè Flore or the legendary Les
Deux Magots, on the corner of Place Saint–Germain–des–Prés: all beloved places for 20th Century artists and
intellectuals like Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, Albert Camus, Jean–Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir.
But in the first half of the 20th Century, it wasn't just highbrow culture that was discussed in New York or
European capital cities. Cafés were a magnet for bohemians with their disorderly lives, bourgeois women who
were in search of adventure and models who'd appear in sophisticated clothes and jewels, like those featured in the
photos by Cecil Beaton for Vogue. These were the cafés for the sophisticated avant–garde culture made up of
'beautiful people' and 'bright young things', a generation that would become immortalized with the name 'Café
Society', which was a term coined by the columnist for the New York American, Maury Paul, whose writings
inspired the 1938 film by Paramount Pictures, Cafe Society.
In the U.S, the rise of 'Cafe Society' coincided with the end of Prohibition (December, 1933) and the growing
popularity of photojournalism. All of a sudden, photographers were taking pictures of everything, everywhere – as
long as there was someone famous in the shot. Millionaires, starlets, sports stars, and of course, the luminaries of
'Café Society'.

Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe Summary
For this summer reading, I chose to read Fried Green Tomatoes at The Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flag. The
book is set in Alabama; it is mostly set in the early 1900s to the late 1980s. While in the early 1920s, this was the
time of the Great Depression, a time where poverty and racism were well known. The story is told in both present,
from the 1920's – 1940's, when the events were occurring, and past tense, when Ninny Threadgoode retold the
events to Evelyn Couch, in the 1980's. Fried Green Tomatoes at The Whistle Stop Cafe begins with "The Weems
Weekly" introducing the opening of the cafe ran by Ruth Jamison and Idgie Threadgoode. Then, Ninny
Threadgoode and Evelyn Couch meet in the visitors lounge in a nursing home. Mrs. Threadgoode ... Show more

But like always there will be those who are immune to your poison". The meaning behind it, is it is about bullying.
Instead of just saying bullying, I made it into a metaphor by calling it a plague. The bully always looking for a
victim but there are always some that ignore them, and in this case, being immune to them. My second quote is,
"Trapped in my own personal hell, screaming for help, trapped in my body. No one ever noticed, never gave a
second glance. As you watched, I sobbed in the night. 'fighter', they say. 'Poor little girl', all words never action".
The meaning behind this has 2 meanings, the first is a medical condition called Locked in Syndrome. This is a
condition resulting from a stroke that damages part of the brainstem. With that, the body and most facial muscles
are paralyzed but consciousness remains and the ability to perform some eye movements. It practically is a
personal hell with awareness of what is happening in your environment. The second meaning ties with the first,
that on the outside someone pretends that they're ok. When in reality they are not, no one notices that it's a charade
that they put up. I mixed both of them to create a mood of loneliness and wanting someone to notice they are not

The Multi–Unit Restaurant Business
In 2010, the U.S. restaurant and contract foodservice industry was a $600 billion industry with
960,000 locations.1 Multi–unit restaurant concepts represented approximately 30% of the industry by units, with
independent operators as the balance. The restaurant and foodservice industry was highly fragmented, and even
industry giant McDonald's generated just 2% of total revenues.
Multi–unit concepts were generally categorized into three industry segments:
Specialty Establishments like Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, and Baskin–Robbins primarily served snacks and
beverages under $5.
Quick Service Restaurants, or so–called "fast food" concepts like McDonald's, Taco Bell, and
Wendy's, provided counter or drive–through service with average tickets between $4 and $10.
Casual Dining included brands like Olive Garden, Applebee's, and Outback, and offered table service for dinner
entrees priced between $8 and $20. Within this group, fine dining concepts like Ruth's Chris and Capital Grille
featured entrées into the $40 range.
While some concepts had bridged these categories for years (e.g., Friendly's offered casual dining coupled with a
strong takeaway ice cream business), more recently several concepts had clustered around an emerging category
often called "Quick Casual." For example, Panda Express

Pina Bausch – Café Müller (1978)
Café Müller premiered May 20th of 1978 at the Opera House Wuppertal in Wuppertal, North Rhine–Westphalia,
Germany. It featured six dancers including, Pina herself; and arias by Henry Purcel. This piece has become one of
Pina's most famous choreographies and has been presented in stages around the world years after it's first
presentation in Europe (Baush).
Pina is considered as the creator of Tanztheater or Dance Theatre. After she became director of dance for the
Wuppertal theatres she developed a genre where dancers not only danced but would sing, talk or even cry or laugh,
all as part of the pieces (Servos). Café Müller is a great example of her early works in this new genre of dance
presentations.

Slowly, as the eyes adapt to the darkness, you recognize two women, one with her eyes closed and her arms open
stumbling against the walls of the stage, while the other moves recklessly along a chair filled stage while a male
dancer moves the props out of her way.
Pina is this woman that dances with her eyes closed. Stumbling against the objects in her path but every know and
then, when she finds an open space she starts this delicate, lyrical motions with her arms. Her movements along
with the music give her character a sweet but sad feeling.
If you come to this presentation wanting of watch a choreographed piece where every move is a defined step and
the entire cast is dancing the same choreography together, this is not the piece for you. Every dancer in the piece is
a different character, and as such, they have their own choreographies that together form a cohesive piece that
doesn't necessarily have a linear structure. The piece is concentrated in conveying feelings through the dance and
for this Pina Baush very eloquently developed a new language for story

HISPTER CAFÉ: STUDIES ON MODERN CAFÉ IN MALAYSIA
Abstract
Modern café is one of the result of urbanization and gentrification (Cohen, September 3, 2014). As the world
changes, the characteristic of café itself changes. Café just not place to sit, having a good food or drink a sip of
coffee but also a place to socialize, and meeting a new person (Rao, 2011). Hipster Café is one of the most popular
modern café culture among youngster in Malaysia. This paper is aim to study the factor that motivates the
youngster to go to hipster café. This study is using a quantitative method. To gain primary data, 390 sets of
questionnaires were distributed. Research samples are identified as the youngster of ages 18–30. The sources of
secondary data were critical selected from highly reliable sources, both from public and private sectors. The
finding of this study will be useful to understand the current trend of hipster café in Malaysia particularly in
Terengganu.

Decision-Making Model: Hard Rock Cafe
4)Decision Making Model
The decisionmaking model consists of five steps; problem recognition, information search, alternative evaluation,
purchase decision, postpurchase evaluation. Within the restaurant industry problem recognition would be defined
as the consumer realizing they are hungry and need to find a place to eat. The next step is information search. This
could be when a family member looks in the fridge and realizes there is nothing desirable. The following step is
alternative evaluation, this would mean after they have looked in the fridge they decide to go on yelp and look for
a place they would like to eat. This step is where Hard Rock Cafes target market is located The target audience for

There are three different models they are; standard learning, low involvement and dissonance.
The Hard Rock Cafes consumers fit in the dissonance model. Meaning that the consumers first behave then
develop opinions from what they feel following they learn more information that will support them feeling this
way again. An example of this would be if a consumer walked into the Hard Rock Cafe for a meal with minimal
knowledge about the brand. As the consumer is in the Hard Rock Cafe they feel happy from the experience and
enjoy the time that they spent there. Following the meal the consumer decides to sign up for loyalty programs so
they can learn more about the brand and return to other

Recommendations For Persuade Cafe

From: Berlinda Pearson
Date: June 4, 2017
Subject: Business Improvement Program (Recommendations for Persuade Café)
Dear Jacqueline Marcus, my name is Berlinda Pearson; I have been hired to provide new ideas and new
recommendation for your business improvement program. As you know, Persuade Café offers unpretentious
coffee, tea, espresso drinks, bakery items, whole beans, and T–shirts. Although these products have proven to
contribute to the success of Persuade Café, there are some must needed changes that are necessary to compete with
its competitors and sustain a competitive advantage. Based on the survey results from customers, there were a
number of 433 responses to an upgrade for bakery items, décor, faster service, ... Show more content on

Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that improper training is coming from various employees. In order for the
Café to become more successful, my recommendation is that they hire a training team who will train all employees
the same way, to eliminate inconsistency. Since employees are the front line of the Café, it is important that
Persuade Café make training a top priority.
 Installation of Wi–Fi – Free Wi–Fi is becoming a prominent customer expectation, so with that being said; it
will benefit Persuade Café, and will increase the customers time spent on the premises. Customers will visit more
often because they can use their cell phone, tablet, laptop via Wi–Fi. Small businesses, such as Persuade Café
might find themselves at a serious competitive disadvantage it they do not install free Wi–Fi.
By implementing these recommendations at Persuade Café, it is my belief that these changes over a period of time
will increase their customer satisfaction, become more inviting and attract new customers, and increase employee
morale. Informing existing customers and future customers of the upcoming changes should spark some
excitement. Implementing changes within a business takes time; however it is to better serve

The Cafe Of The Store
The café in the center of the store is actually a little Starbucks coffee shop, but due to the food that they service it
is more of a café than anything else. The food is not really a wide selection, but it is enough that anyone is,
"required to play host, and in which all feel at home and comfortable." (Oldenburg, page 22) With the decent food
and Starbucks, anyone that has an order does not need to remain at the tables to finish it. You can still be able to
browse the shelves and read anything that you desire. Which is why many families come to the store with their
children in tow.
Most people can arrive at this location with no worries and may come and go whenever they please, with no
worries about arriving too late. For the bookstore has very long hours of operation, but the store is not accessible in
its off hours as Oldenburg states on page 32. Yet B&N has a sort of an interesting circumstance. For on a weekly
basis B&N is open from 9am to 10pm and during the weekends the building doesn't close until 11pm. All in all
people, it is easy to understand why so many families come to B&N instead of a library.
For most libraries do have a children's section, but you still have to be quiet, even if it is story time. As Brenner
describes it in his article, No Borders, "The aesthetic of a library is more like that of a book prison." Which is why,
for as long as I can remember, is the reason why I have loved bookstores more, especially Borders and B&N. For
despite libraries

The Cariboo Cafe
Immigrant Tragedy in "The Cariboo Café"
Helena Maria Viramontes grew up in Los Angeles where relatives used to stay and live with her family when
making the transition from Mexico to the United States. This is where she got her first taste of the lives of
immigrants in this country within the urban barrios. Viramontes's writing reflects this theme along with expressing
her political opinions on the treatments of immigrants, especially Chicanos and Latinos. In her short story "The
Cariboo Café," Viramontes brings these ideas to life through three sections narrated by different individuals tied
into the story. "The Cariboo Café" is a story of Chicano immigrants and a Central American refugee. Along with

It also introduces new people: Paulie a man who frequently visits the café, and JoJo, his son, who the reader
understands has died. The speaker also talks of Nell, his ex–wife. Though there were things that annoyed him
about her, he still speaks fondly of her. For instance, he remarks, "That's why Nell was good to have ‘round. She
could be a pain in the ass, you know, like making me hang those stupid bells, but mostly she knew what to do."
This allows the reader to see that the loss of his family has had a deep impact on him. He misses his wife and son
and speaks of how families should be together, though his never will be again. This is what provokes him to do
what he did next. The speaker sees a young sister and brother come into the Cariboo Café with their mother. He
also sees this same woman and children on T.V. with the report that the woman kidnapped these children. He states
that he does not ordinarily get involved in affairs like these; however, when the police show up at the café, he
points them toward the bathroom where the woman and two children are. The third section changes speakers once
again. The reader is now getting a first person narrative of a Central American refugee woman. In the first
paragraph she speaks of her son, Geraldo, who has been taken away from her and put in the detainers. Her voice is
much less harsh than the previous speaker. Hers is softer and pleading. Her tone is one

The Broadway Cafe
Cohesion Case
In order for our business, The Broadway Café, to become more competitive in this environment, I deem it
necessary to build a collaboration tool that will stimulate contact, knowledge, information, and events among
employees, customers, suppliers, and all others who are interested in the business.
A collaboration system is an IT–based set of tools that supports the work of teams by facilitating the sharing and
flow of information. Collaboration systems allow people, teams, and organizations to leverage and build upon the
ideas and talents of staff, suppliers, customers, and business partners.
A collaboration tool that I believe would fulfill our needs at The Broadway Café would be a Groupware System.

Factors that can limit the threat of new entrants are known as barriers to entry. In this case barriers to entry are low
because: there is no government intervention to prevent businesses from entering the industry, resources are
abundant, and customers' switching costs are low as well as fixed costs to start this type of business.
Rivalry among existing competitors describes the intensity of competition between "Broadway's Café" and
existing coffee shops in an industry. A highly competitive industry might result from many players of about the
same size, on single dominant competitor, little differentiation between competitors' products and services
The differentiation strategy aims at creating a service that is unique. The key is to be viewed as valuable by the
customer. According to Porter corporations should not focus their corporate energy into being better than their
competitors, instead, try to be different. Benchmarking the competitor can result in what Porter describes as the
competitive convergence, where, to the customer, everyone looks like everyone else. For"Broadway's Café" to stay
competitive in 21st century their strategy should be about performing different activities from rivals or similar
activities differently.

Summary Of Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe
Fried Green Tomatoes at The Whistle Stop Cafe. By: Lexi Today My first impression of Fried Green Tomatoes at
the Whistle Stop Café was that it was a love story. This was because the movie, which was more popular than the
book, was advertised as a "chick flick". But, I was wrong. The book talks about many issues that people face of the
1920's and 1930's, and makes me and probably everyone think about what people have struggled through. The
book addresses the issue of racism before the time of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. It
tells of the struggles women must go through when they reach old age and the big changes. However, the main

Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe Essay
Love is one of the most powerful forces in the world, and one of the most difficult to describe. It is one of those
emotions that words do not seem to justify a person may feel it, but may not be able to explain it. However, that
does not mean that people do not know that love is out there. Many people believe that everyone has one true love
somewhere in the world, and spend their lives searching for that person. Love is not difficult to find though. It
exists in many forms, including love between family members, friends, different races, and even the love for
oneself, both in the novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Frannie Flagg and in one's own
life. The first and most basic form of love is found in the family.

The fact that his grandson is able to be embarrassed proves the success if Jasper had done poorly, the grandson
would not be well off, and would be bowing and scraping to whites just as his grandfather had.
A more unusual type of love for the setting is the love between black and white races. The blacks are faced by
many problems, especially in the South mid–century, but they seem to jump to the occasion and succeed against
poor odds. Idgie and Ruth both admire and care about the blacks in the story. When Onzell kills Frank Bennet,
Idgie knows that the law would have her killed, so she risks her own freedom by going to trial as the accused. This
is proof that Idgie is fond of Onzell and Big George, and even loves them if she's willing to take such a chance.
As well, Onzell feels great loyalty towards Ruth she kills a man to try and protect Ruth's baby. Onzell is almost
like another mother to Stump, and a good friend of Ruth and Idgie's. Another black/white relationship with love
involved is the one between Sipsey and the Threadgoode family. Sipsey is their servant, but they treat her like
another member of the family. She is there for Idgie to talk to, and whenever Idgie "couldn't bear to be home
any longer, she'd just take off and go stay with Sipsey over in Troutville" (Flagg, p.37). Finally, there is the
love that Evelyn has not for the blacks, but for what they do to her.

Assumptions About Documentaries and an Analysis of The...
Assumption about documentaries being true, educational only, no imagination needed aren't correct . There are
several documentaries we watched in class that show that documentaries don't all fall under the same assumptions.
A common assumption about documentaries is that there is no imagination needed. " In a time when the major
media recycle the same stories on the same subjects over and over, when they risk little in formal innovation, when
they remain beholden to powerful sponsors with their own political agendas and restrictive demands, it is the
independent documentary film that has brought a fresh eye to the events of the world and told stories, with verve

Even though they are real people we weren't really seeing who they are.
A documentary film is not made up; it shows what really happens in real life; shows things as they are naturally
are. This statement is not completely true. "The story a documentary tells stems from the historical world but it is
still told from the filmmaker's perspective and in the filmmaker's voice. This is a matter of degree, not a black–
and–white division." (Nichols, 12) "In these cases the stories told speak about the actual events directly, not
allegorically, and the film adheres to the known historical facts. Social actors, people, present themselves in fluid,
negotiated, revealing ways." (Nichols,12) According to Nichols documentaries are true events but the filmmaker
shapes what we see into what they want us to see. We are getting the perspective of the directors. An example of
movie watched in class was Nanook of the North, even though the people were real, some of the scenes seemed
staged. The director wants us to see Nanook and his people behind on technology and still living in the past. There
is the scene were one of them is biting a disc, it seems the director is trying to make us believe these people are
way behind and primitive. Another scene that helps prove that not everything caught on camera happens naturally

the foundation of John's Cafe, one of the largest home coffee shop companies in the around Melbourne. Large

people could park easily. Mr Yip built his business on the philosophy 'We do a little, you do a little, together we
save money' which meant that the customer became part of the production process. All this allowed for long
production runs, which provided economies of scale and growth whilst maintaining the quality of the finished

Having a clear vision enables an organisation to enthuse its employees, customers, suppliers and other important

Vinyl Cafe Diaries
Vinyl Cafe Diaries is the fourth series of short stories from a family written by Stuart McLean. In the book, there
are four series of stories written from each of the family members. The family members are Dave, Morley,
Stephanie and Sam. McLean uses humour and a good form of dialogue to establish important messages in life.
There are different ways to tell a story. In this book, the stories are written from the father, the mother, the son and
daughter's point of view. The short story "Labour Pains" is about Morley, the wife of Dave who is pregnant. It is
written in Morley's point of view, although Dave is mentioned a lot in the story. This story was funny because

This is written from Stephanie's point of view about her father. In the story, Dave had a plan of watching television
by himself. Unfortunately Dave babysits for his daughter Stephanie since she was feeling sick. The humour in this
story was from Jade, the daughter of their neighbour that he was babysitting. Jade did not like Dave and decided to
lock him out when he left the house to chase after her brother. Dave was struggling since no one was helping him
out. Jade was the only person that could tell him where everything was placed, but she decided to ignore him. At
the end of the story, Stephanie returns after 2 months to babysit the kids. Rhonda, the mother of the children says,
"She's been asking for your father. He's her favorite, you know" (McLean 188). An interesting fact was that at the
beginning of the story, Rhonda told Dave to be careful with Jade since she was upset that Stephanie was not there
to babysit. The theme in this short story is babysitting. Babysitting can be hard but it is important to remember that
it is the kids who need to have fun while their parents are gone. Playing with the kids is a great way to cheer them
up. Humor in both stories were excellent since the stories were entertaining and not

is somewhat akin to mass customization in manufacturing. At Hard Rock, the experience concept is to provide not
only a custom meal from the menu, but a dining event that includes a unique visual and sound experience not

Here, we first discuss the Product Design and Quality: When Hard Rock Cafe is founded, first–rate, but

initially decorated with an eye toward eclectic American. What started as an American dinner in the heart of

menus for local taste. The following is several examples:
In Europe, particularly in British, there is still some fear of mad cow diseases. Therefore, Hard Rock Café is

Powerful Characters and Powerful Themes in Fried Green...
One Southern novel shines light on racism, feminism, and surprising lesbianism. Fried Green Tomatoes at the
Whistle Stop Café by Fannie Flagg, published in 1987, is about the different events happening and people living in
Whistle Stop and Birmingham, Alabama. Fannie Flagg uses many powerful characters to enforce several themes.
Idgie, Ruth, Evelyn, Mrs. Threadgoode, Big George, Artis, and Jasper are a few of the main characters that help
Flagg show the themes though out Fried Green Tomatoes . Fannie Flagg was born in Birmingham, Alabama on
September 21, 1941. She was born as Patricia Neal but changed her name later (Thompson 186). William and

There, Flagg worked for a variety of local news programs but worked her way up to acting in movies, shows,
plays, and musicals (186). She shifted to writing when she was in her late thirties. Now she lives in both Santa
Barbara, California and Birmingham, Alabama. Flagg started writing again because she felt something was
missing from her life (Thompson 187). Flagg wrote a short story for the Santa Barbara Writer's Conference and
won first place. She started writing full–time after her first book did very well. Most of Fannie Flagg's novels are
set in small towns in the South ("Fannie"). She weaves themes of racism and feminism into her novels, because
these are issues she feels strongly about (Stanley 86). Her novels give power to those who didn't always have it,
mainly women and African Americans.
Fried Green Tomatoes is one of Flagg's novels that has themes about race and gender. Fannie Flagg originally
started writing Fried Green Tomatoes because she received a shoe box full of items from her Aunt Bess. The
Whistle Stop Café was based in a café Bess owned in Irondale, Alabama; both are located near railroad tracks
(Stanley 85). In an interview Flagg said that she actually formed the Whistle Stop Café before anything other
characters (Stanley 85). Charles Champlin wrote that the novel is a great blend if jokes, anger, murder, and
Alabamian life. Champlin also said Flagg showed "what it was like to be

Nothing Wrong With a Little Southern Hospitality
"Now George, you know you can't go in Avondale Park, they just had a big Klan meeting over there the other
night. As soon as you set one foot in that gate, they'd shoot your head off in a minute" (Flagg 145). This is a prime
example of one of many horrid quotes from the distinguished novel, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop
Cafe. This novel was written by Fannie Flagg during the 1980's. It was a time that bigot minded voters sought for
change and a backlash on the American Civil Rights era. Fannie Flagg was known as a witty humored, powerful
activist, and the comedian that stole the show. From themes of affection to hatred, Flagg tries to write for the
betterment of the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through the novel you clearly notice how cooking and religion played a big role in the character's everyday lives.
Deep down South, religion is the core to their societies livelihood. Like the characters in Fried Green Tomatoes,
Flagg grew up in a religious Christian based household. Within the novel, religion played a part in their daily lives
through weekly bible group meetings (Flagg 70). The importance of the characters faith is also demonstrated
through the way the Threadgoode's father parented,"Momma said the only reason Poppa didn't give them a
spanking is because that preacher was a Baptist. But it never caused a serious rift, because after church we'd all
meet back home for our Sunday dinner" (23). Along with religion, southern foods and the feeding of everyone also
played a huge factor in the novel. Characters would get excited over being feed traditional southern food (341).
Though living in the south was a potent part of the novel, Flagg's losses throughout her lifetime impacted Fried
Green Tomatoes greatly.
In regard to the dispirited sense of the novel, Fannie Flagg circles around a story of a depressed middle aged
women, and stories of her own hometown in Whistle Stop Alabama. Throughout, Flagg often references to her
childhood losses and how she overcame these tough times. This relates to how Fannie Flagg lost both of her
parents at a young age.

The Cafe Window
In the early evening back at home Consuelo was still pacing in front of the café window. Concerned for the safety
of her only son, who had departed this morning wearing his sleepwear and robe. Her jaw fell open when on the
sidewalk before her appeared Stella and Sol, with much audacity. Carrying up the path garment bags from a high
end department store. Behind them was Dr. Edwards who had just pulled in after his long shift at work. He walked
towards Stella who was standing in front of the door. He greeted her with a big, juicy, wet, kiss, then they all just
walked right in.
Consuelo, who was still owning her tantrum, was offended by their smiles and casual stances. Not wanting to
believe what she was seeing when she questioned, "Are those really garment bags you carrying?" Calm and collect
Sol put on her sarcastic tone and lifted her head and retorted "You saw the wedding invitation. My daughter gets
married next Saturday. We will dress impeccably well for the fiasco." Consuelo who was speechless regained her
composure for a moment, "I understand that she became a loon, but did I miss something with you two? My son is

The Polaris Cafe
Marketing Case Analysis of
"The Polaris Café"
The case presented involves the Polaris Cafe' located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The Polaris Café was
founded by four partners: Ben Reynolds, responsible for marketing and public relations; Kyle Roman, the overall
manager; Sid Carter, responsible for the financial management, potential investors, and obtaining bank loans; and
Dominick Trioli, responsible for payroll and purchasing. New Brunswick is a college town, home to Rutgers
University and several large corporations, such as Johnson & Johnson.
The partners have chosen to sign a long–term lease in a newly constructed building that will house retail space on
the first floor and the remaining floors will house additional office ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By freeing up payroll dollars I would hire an experienced accountant that would provide better projections based
on more accurate data. I feel an experienced accountant that had worked in the food service industry would have
been able to advise them that they did not need to budget on a yearly sales forecast that was divided by 52 weeks
in the year. This shows poor budgeting skills because they are trying to obtain a heavy student mix and the students
are not in the area for the entire year.
Financial forecasting is such an integral part of any successful start up business and there are major issues with the
way it has been done.
I would also look at the existing data from sales to see if the original market segmentation has followed through to
the actual sales numbers. With the influx of students during the school year and the absence of students over the
holidays and summer, if the tapas area is not producing the necessary sales then the restaurant might need to
devote more space to the fine dining establishment. As it currently stands, the tapas bar is composed of 75% of the
floor space, except in the summer when it commands 80% of the floor space, which includes the patio area. The
fine dining area is limited to only 25% of the sales, except during the summer when it

The Ballad of the Sad Café
The Ballad of the Sad Café" is a fantastic novel written by Carson McCullers that takes strange turns and curves
shockingly. The Ballad of Sad Café" is an account of love triangle set in a little town in Georgia. The town is
portrayed as horrid, bereft, and tragic that is far away and antagonized from every single other place in the world.
The novella investigates the subject of affection that spins around three critical characters Miss Amelia, Marvin
Macy, and Cousin Lymon in an adoration triangle that takes the peruser on a radical new level. The three
characters in the novel have distinctive traits. For example, Cousin Lymon is potrayed as a guile character, Miss
Amelia depicted as a persevering character who worked hard in her business in the little town. Then again, Marvin
Macy is related with awful characters, for example, intoxication be that as it may, his conduct when he was
seeking after the warmth of miss Amelia.

Furthermore, he is sufficiently shrewd to trick and exploit individuals, for example, Miss Amelia who had adored
him and gave him all that he requested in spite of the fact that he consequently does not offer her anything back
abandoning her heart broken. All through the story, Cousin Lymon has turned out to be an egotistical man who
does not enjoy anybody but rather himself. As George R.R. Martin cites "Love is toxic substance. A sweet toxic
substance, yes, however it will execute all of you the same." Just like it had slaughtered and squashed the lives of
Miss Amelia, Marvin, and Lymon who found no satisfaction simply torment and isolation out of

Cafe Society CAFÉ SOCIETY, A TIMELESS ALLURE LINGERING OVER COFFEE IN THE COMPANY OF OTHERS IS A RITUAL THAT NEVER LOSES ITS APPEAL: MUCH HAS CHANGED OVER THE GENERATIONS, BUT THE GLOBAL 'CAFÉ SOCIETY ' KEEPS IT TIMELESS GLAMOUR In 1971, Starbucks was just a single bar in Seattle's market plaza. Ten years later, the one location had become five, and the company began importing their own blends of coffee. The legend surrounding the birth of Starbucks tells of Howard Schulz, one of the company's buyers, making a trip to Italy in 1983, and being astounded to learn that the Country had more than 200,000 cafés selling espresso coffee and that Milan, a city the size of Philadelphia, had more than 1,500. But in the first half of the 20th Century, it wasn't just highbrow culture that was discussed in New York or European capital cities. Cafés were a magnet for bohemians with their disorderly lives, bourgeois women who were in search of adventure and models who'd appear in sophisticated clothes and jewels, like those featured in the photos by Cecil Beaton for Vogue. These were the cafés for the sophisticated avant–garde culture made up of 'beautiful people' and 'bright young things', a generation that would become immortalized with the name 'Café Society', which was a term coined by the columnist for the New York American, Maury Paul, whose writings inspired the 1938 film by Paramount Pictures, Cafe Society. In the U.S, the rise of 'Cafe Society' coincided with the end of Prohibition (December, 1933) and the growing popularity of photojournalism. • 4. Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe Summary For this summer reading, I chose to read Fried Green Tomatoes at The Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flag. The book is set in Alabama; it is mostly set in the early 1900s to the late 1980s. While in the early 1920s, this was the time of the Great Depression, a time where poverty and racism were well known. The story is told in both present, from the 1920's – 1940's, when the events were occurring, and past tense, when Ninny Threadgoode retold the events to Evelyn Couch, in the 1980's. Fried Green Tomatoes at The Whistle Stop Cafe begins with "The Weems Weekly" introducing the opening of the cafe ran by Ruth Jamison and Idgie Threadgoode. Then, Ninny Threadgoode and Evelyn Couch meet in the visitors lounge in a nursing home. Mrs. Threadgoode ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My second quote is, "Trapped in my own personal hell, screaming for help, trapped in my body. No one ever noticed, never gave a second glance. As you watched, I sobbed in the night. This is a condition resulting from a stroke that damages part of the brainstem. With that, the body and most facial muscles are paralyzed but consciousness remains and the ability to perform some eye movements. It practically is a personal hell with awareness of what is happening in your environment. The second meaning ties with the first, that on the outside someone pretends that they're ok. The restaurant and foodservice industry was highly fragmented, and even industry giant McDonald's generated just 2% of total revenues. Multi–unit concepts were generally categorized into three industry segments: Specialty Establishments like Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, and Baskin–Robbins primarily served snacks and beverages under $5. Quick Service Restaurants, or so–called "fast food" concepts like McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Wendy's, provided counter or drive–through service with average tickets between $4 and $10. Casual Dining included brands like Olive Garden, Applebee's, and Outback, and offered table service for dinner entrees priced between $8 and $20. Within this group, fine dining concepts like Ruth's Chris and Capital Grille featured entrées into the $40 range. There are several documentaries we watched in class that show that documentaries don't all fall under the same assumptions. A common assumption about documentaries is that there is no imagination needed. " In a time when the major media recycle the same stories on the same subjects over and over, when they risk little in formal innovation, when they remain beholden to powerful sponsors with their own political agendas and restrictive demands, it is the independent documentary film that has brought a fresh eye to the events of the world and told stories, with verve and imagination, that broaden limited horizons and awaken new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though they are real people we weren't really seeing who they are. A documentary film is not made up; it shows what really happens in real life; shows things as they are naturally are. This statement is not completely true. "The story a documentary tells stems from the historical world but it is still told from the filmmaker's perspective and in the filmmaker's voice. This is a matter of degree, not a black– and–white division." (Nichols, 12) "In these cases the stories told speak about the actual events directly, not allegorically, and the film adheres to the known historical facts. Social actors, people, present themselves in fluid, negotiated, revealing ways." (Nichols,12) According to Nichols documentaries are true events but the filmmaker shapes what we see into what they want us to see. We are getting the perspective of the directors. An example of movie watched in class was Nanook of the North, even though the people were real, some of the scenes seemed staged. The director wants us to see Nanook and his people behind on technology and still living in the past. There is the scene were one of them is biting a disc, it seems the director is trying to make us believe these people are way behind and primitive. Another scene that helps prove that not everything caught on camera happens naturally is when Nanook sees all the other eskimos going ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jade did not like Dave and decided to lock him out when he left the house to chase after her brother. Dave was struggling since no one was helping him out. Jade was the only person that could tell him where everything was placed, but she decided to ignore him. At the end of the story, Stephanie returns after 2 months to babysit the kids. Rhonda, the mother of the children says, "She's been asking for your father. He's her favorite, you know" (McLean 188). An interesting fact was that at the beginning of the story, Rhonda told Dave to be careful with Jade since she was upset that Stephanie was not there to babysit. The theme in this short story is babysitting. Babysitting can be hard but it is important to remember that it is the kids who need to have fun while their parents are gone. Here, we first discuss the Product Design and Quality: When Hard Rock Cafe is founded, first–rate, but moderately priced casual American fare, warm service and ever–present rock 'n' roll music and sensibility, it was initially decorated with an eye toward eclectic American. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café by Fannie Flagg, published in 1987, is about the different events happening and people living in Whistle Stop and Birmingham, Alabama. Fannie Flagg uses many powerful characters to enforce several themes. Idgie, Ruth, Evelyn, Mrs. Threadgoode, Big George, Artis, and Jasper are a few of the main characters that help Flagg show the themes though out Fried Green Tomatoes . Fannie Flagg was born in Birmingham, Alabama on September 21, 1941. She was born as Patricia Neal but changed her name later (Thompson 186). William and Marion Neal were Flagg's parents. There, Flagg worked for a variety of local news programs but worked her way up to acting in movies, shows, plays, and musicals (186). She shifted to writing when she was in her late thirties. Now she lives in both Santa Barbara, California and Birmingham, Alabama. Flagg started writing again because she felt something was missing from her life (Thompson 187). Flagg wrote a short story for the Santa Barbara Writer's Conference and won first place. She started writing full–time after her first book did very well. Most of Fannie Flagg's novels are set in small towns in the South ("Fannie"). She weaves themes of racism and feminism into her novels, because these are issues she feels strongly about (Stanley 86). Her novels give power to those who didn't always have it, mainly women and African Americans. Fried Green Tomatoes is one of Flagg's novels that has themes about race and gender. Fannie Flagg originally started writing Fried Green Tomatoes because she received a shoe box full of items from her Aunt Bess. The Whistle Stop Café was based in a café Bess owned in Irondale, Alabama; both are located near railroad tracks (Stanley 85). In an interview Flagg said that she actually formed the Whistle Stop Café before anything other characters (Stanley 85). Charles Champlin wrote that the novel is a great blend if jokes, anger, murder, and Alabamian life. Champlin also said Flagg showed "what it was like to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a prime example of one of many horrid quotes from the distinguished novel, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. This novel was written by Fannie Flagg during the 1980's. It was a time that bigot minded voters sought for change and a backlash on the American Civil Rights era. Deep down South, religion is the core to their societies livelihood. Like the characters in Fried Green Tomatoes, Flagg grew up in a religious Christian based household. Within the novel, religion played a part in their daily lives through weekly bible group meetings (Flagg 70). The importance of the characters faith is also demonstrated through the way the Threadgoode's father parented,"Momma said the only reason Poppa didn't give them a spanking is because that preacher was a Baptist. But it never caused a serious rift, because after church we'd all meet back home for our Sunday dinner" (23). Along with religion, southern foods and the feeding of everyone also played a huge factor in the novel. Characters would get excited over being feed traditional southern food (341). Though living in the south was a potent part of the novel, Flagg's losses throughout her lifetime impacted Fried Green Tomatoes greatly. In regard to the dispirited sense of the novel, Fannie Flagg circles around a story of a depressed middle aged women, and stories of her own hometown in Whistle Stop Alabama.
