Argumentative Essay On The College Dropout
In this article written by Holly Epstein Ojalvo writer from New York times says "Is college worth
it?". What does that mean for a high school senior who is stressing at the last moment of their high
school year, and don't even know what to do with their lives yet. Some students want to go from
high school straight to college but some are indecisive about it, it's either the work force, or the
military.
Students that go to a Four–year University don't even graduate. In this article College dropout
statistics it says " with these three issues leading students to leave college in the United States, more
than 30% of students drop out in their first year.". Most of these students come from low–income
backgrounds. There are many other reasons as to college drop outs, one an overactive social life, but
i don't see how that could affect someone that much. Two homesickness, i could see this one
happening most of the time because i understand being far away from my family. Three lack of
guidance and mentoring from school officials.
But college also could be a good thing for students that know what they want to do in life. See the
30% of dropouts are either because they aren't ready or they can't really afford it or they can't handle
the responsibility, etc. But the other 70% do end up going on through high school and graduating
and getting their degree or bachelor's. But you don't always have to go to college to get a high
paying job, some jobs just require high school diploma. Most

Throughout his career rapper Kanye West, has been portrayed as many different things in the media
based on his public appearance and the subject matter of his music. The message he relates in his
music is ever changing and often showcases different ideals or stances on issues echoed among
different parts of the African American community. Two such instances of this come from very
different periods of Kanye's career, and show two polar opposite opinions of how to deal with
arguably the most important social issue in American history. This change in Kanye's way of dealing
with racism reflects two differing schools of thought in the African American community. Although
early in Kanye's career his music identified the racial inequality ... Show more content on

Another great example of this comes from another College Dropout song, "All Falls Down". Kanye
says "We buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedom". (West, All Falls Down)With this he
seems to be saying that while money can buy a top of the line attorney to keep him out of jail, all the
money in the world cannot buy African Americans social equality. Again however he says nothing
about taking action, he just points out the problem. At this point in his life and career Kanye seems
to be have a sort of passive aggressive attitude regarding racism, he understands the problem and
recognizes it but doesn't seem to feel that fighting back is the best way to deal with it. This
sentiment is echoed by many throughout the African American community, including one of the
most famous civil rights activists of all time, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a 1957 speech entitled
"Justice without violence", in which he discusses solutions to the problem of inequality, Dr. King
said "It seems to me that there are two possible answers to this question. One is to use the all [too]
prevalent method of physical violence . . . And we all know the danger of this method. It seems to
create many more social problems than it solves." (King Jr.)Dr. King argued until his death in 1967
for a non–violent resolution to racism and had tens of millions of supporters behind him across the
United States. Like Dr. King and his many supporters Kanye seems at this

Graduation is right around the corner. Sometimes, it is hard to stay motivated. But, picturing that
degree in the mail and the satisfaction that I finally graduated college is a big factor. The first thing
to aid in this goal is to remember than college is not like high school. College should be treated just
like a full–time job. It requires more work, focus, and motivation. College is an option, it is a
passion, and it is life. It has to be planned just right, so that a person can graduate on time.
That being said, being a student who hangs around college hoping to get adjusted without having a
set plan, will more than likely end up dropping out and wasting tons of money and resources. The
financial consequences of dropping out can be dire. College is VERY expensive. Every year a
person is in college, it is about twenty–five percent more expensive than the previous year. Math is
important.
Attitude is everything. For every goal, there are multiple goals. The main goal should be to graduate
on time. This main goal will lead to proper study habits, more successful course rights, overall
higher GPA, and overall healthy college lifestyle. Confidence in academics is important. The more
focused, the more determined to achieve and set even more goals. Creating ... Show more content on

I have learned that it really is important to look for the silver lining in everything, and to look at the
life with the glass is half–full perspective. We keep a daily journal in this class, and I love that I am
able to express my feelings. In each of my entries, even if a day seems like it has been the worst day
ever, I always try to look at what positive can come out of the bad. Another important class that I
have taken is motivation. In this class, we learn that enthusiasm towards achieving our personal
goals is worth the immediate satisfaction we feel afterwards. It makes me want to set many goals

Stress On The Life Of A College Student
Stress in the Life of a College Student Stress is an emotion that is against nature to enjoy; yet it
cannot be avoided as a human. A bum on the side of the interstate, who is considered the scum of
society, experiences stress as he pleads for food and money in order to live another day. With this
being true, stress increases as ability and opportunity increase. No one can deny the fact that college
is an exhausting time for any student in the pursuit of a career due to its overwhelming workloads,
stressful exams, and time–consuming projects. Because of this, students consistently fail to
complete class work, drop out of classes, and eventually drop out of college altogether. Management
of stress is the skill that separates those who attempt from those who accomplish. Stress is the force
that motivates living things to survive. When faced with a trying obstacle, stress causes one to
perform at his best. All throughout nature we see the healthy consequences of stress being
manifested. We see the ant working hard to fulfill its duties as directed by the queen. In this way, the
ant is under a form of stress in order for the colony to survive. The squirrel collects nuts in the
summer and fall because he experiences instinctive stress to survive the winter months by the
accumulation of food. Without stress driving one to work, life on this planet would simply not exist.
In this way, it is easy to see stress in a positive, and further, necessary connotation. Furthermore,

Entry #1: College has been one of the most intimidating experiences for me. This is the second time
I started college the first time I got pregnant with my daughter and my husband joined the military
so we moved many states away. I ended up dropping out. I blamed my husband joining the military
and becoming pregnant for not finishing. Truthfully it was a lack of trying. Granted it would have
been harder for me to finish school it was still do able under those circumstances. A hurdle I had to

The Increase In Dropout Rates In College
College is universally known to be some of the best years of a young adult's life, however for some
it is the worst. Students fresh out of high school have many opportunities in college for
independence, knowledge, traveling, forming new relationships, and a multitude of fun exciting
adventures, so why would any of these young adults feel suicidal? The newfound personal
responsibility accompanied by hard classes and social pressure that comes with college can be
taxing on a college students mental health, and sadly most colleges and universities are ill equipped
in helping students who are faced with these challenges. Recent years have shown an increase in
dropout rates for colleges, and on a darker note, suicide attempts. An alarming number

To Dropout is to Fail
Today, many people decide to attempt to further their education by attending community college,
but quickly they realize it is either to hard or it is the wrong path. Many first time students face
extreme difficulty getting caught up to a college level of English and math; therefore, they dropout
and go back into the work force. Many first year students hold multiple jobs to support their own
living expenses while trying to get educated, but when things get hard, many sacrifice their
education. Every college dropout has their own reason for quitting school, wither its finances,

An increment in college drop out rates with the inability to do well in courses has been on the
receiving end of many theories as well as research experiments. In "Implicit Theories of Intelligence
Predict Achievement Across an Adolescent Transition" Blackwell, Trzeniewski, Dweck (2007) state
that some people believe that intelligence is more of an "entity" while others think of it as
"incremental".
In 1997 just over 54 percent of students who enrolled in 4 year colleges earned their degree six years
later, even fewer Hispanics in addition of blacks according to some of the latest government figures.
Bowen, President of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, has heightened his consideration on this
matter with his data driven studies on college athletes, college access and affirmative action for the
poor that has kindled debate nationwide in recent years. Patrick Callan, President, of the National

College Dropout Rate And Evidence
College Dropout Rate & Evidence To Support You 're done, you have dropped out of college and
there 's nothing you can do. Congratulations, you are now in the 1.3 million that also contributed to
this statistic. The college dropout rate varies based upon a wide variety of problems college students
encounter. Now your reasons for dropping out? There could be many, some of which you couldn 't
control. However, there are some that directly contribute to the dropout rate; that you could have.
We'll be looking at 13 pieces of evidence that contribute to the dropout rate. Sometimes ethnicities
have lower completion rates than others, "Asian/Pacific Islanders have the highest rate and
American Indian/Alaskan natives the lowest 66% and 40%"(Pleskac). So you cannot choose your
ethnic background, but that is no reason to not go to college or get a degree. About 40% of black and
Hispanic students had a family crisis just within their sophomore year of college. That was almost
6% more than white and virtually 20% more than Asian students (Harris). Those things you cannot
control and it is important that you keep the right mindset during hard times, so it does not interfere
with studies. Coming from a different ethnic background they are more"..likely to come from lower
socioeconomic backgrounds, which makes them vulnerable to family crises"..which can be difficult

A Brief Biography of Kanye West
College Dropout was Kanye West's debut album and in my opinion was his best yet. The album
cover features Kanye West in a bear costume sitting on some wooden bleachers surrounded by a
rustic cherub ridden, floral boarder. This image stands out to me in a lot of good ways. I like the
boarder a lot and I think baby angels are very cute and are meant to symbolize Kanyes' art school
back round. Kanye says that the album cover is meant to say that people do not always have to
follow what society thinks that they should. The drop out bear mascot he named himself and is
supposed to iconize this rebellious album and attitude towards the world and its institutions. Kanye
had a lot of help from Eric Duvauchelle who is now a design director at Nike. Kanye West was in a
car accident in October of two–thousand and three. This very serious accident motivated him to
become a world star rapper because at the time he was only a producer in Chicago but had worked
on some very famous peoples records such as Jay–Z. I really like the cover because it is elegant,
classy, and it says a lot about him bursting onto the rap scene in a not so typical manner.
Before he made a name for himself in the rap community, Kanye was in school at the American
Academy of Art, where he had gotten a scholarship to study visual art. He dropped out when he
realized that he would "never be one of the great visual artists of the world" and didn't want to end
up working for an advertising agency. This idea was a good

Solutions for College Dropout
The Solution to Increasing Dropout Rates
While there are many problems college students' face while attempting to obtain a degree, the
largest hindrance from completion is that of financial ability. One of the largest contributors to
college dropout rates is the lack of financial support. Many college students must work either full or
part time to support themselves or their families. With the declining economy and increasing costs
of college tuition, funds are being scarcely distributed and many college students find that they are
unable to continue their education due of this.
The degree of importance placed on college education is in decline, and each year the number of
students completing their degree is decreasing. There have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The program is to still be funded by the US Federal Government, but to increase the funding for this
I propose a one percent federal tax increase on all major corporations and businesses with an annual
income of $250,000 or greater. This will likely incur great opposition initially as to why the increase
in tax rate is on that of large businesses. In response to this, the effort of this new program will be to
eliminate additional costly training by employers to undereducated employees. By having college
students who are actually obtaining their college degrees working for these large companies, the
need for additional training will decline. Thus, saving funds in order to finance the one percent
proposed increase to increase financial aid.
The proposed program will set to be launched during the upcoming years' financial aid process and
coincide with the initial financial aid applications. A new committee of current financial aid staff
will be formed to oversee the addition to the program, and will be set in place to answer questions
and to help prevent fraud. The method for monitoring the student's progress is to still be the
responsibility of the institution to where the student is enrolled. If a student fails to enroll for the
following year and apply for financial aid, then no increase in financial aid funds will be provided to
them. Also, if any break of one

masterpiece. Not only was the tour a visual masterpiece, but it enabled West to work with new
people like Saul Williams, Paul McCartney, and Trent Reznor. Even though he did not have a
natural singing voice, one of his most significant inspirations, Michael Jackson, encouraged him to
keep trying. Not being able to sing certain notes, West switched to Auto–tune. Stand out songs
like,"Love Lockdown", showed the boldness in West's risk–taking when using Auto–tune.
Nonetheless, West was still hurting and mourning the death of his mother and felt truly lonely after
His ex–fiance, Alexis Phifer and he broke up. "Coldest Winter", is an extremely haunting track, of a

There was pop–art expressed in "Heartless", experimentation in,"Welcome to Heartbreak", and a
tribal theme in "Amazing". Lastly, is Track 12, "Pinocchio Story", a live freestyle that West

Enrollment at Utah institutions has steadily risen over the past decade as college has become the

ever before, the dropout rates in Utah colleges has skyrocketed as more and more students realize
that college is not for them. With this influx of students and rising dropout rates, we as a society are
left with an enormous number of young adults leaving college without a degree, any marketable
skills and mounds of debt.

It will make these students strive to become better at school. This will very much increase optimism

of not trying as hard in school. Some kids might do this but most other really would try and get that

This solution will put things in a different perspective like giving students and everyone the
awareness of how important school really is. If students are aware of how education impacts your
future then they will start trying even harder at school and just being able to have that drive to
become something successful in the future. Many families in Utah think it's more important to serve

Many students see college as the stepping stone to a successful career and a happy life. Which can

high school, although it is marketed that way, high school graduates must think critically about their
decision. Should I take some time away from school, to know myself better? What do I intend to do

David Leanhardt a correspondent for the New York Times stated in The College Dropout Boom that
often times the thought of high tuition prices scare students away, especially lower–income students,
before they even think about attending a college (92). And there is good reason for this. With the
average four year degree costing $91,304 at public colleges and $179,000 at private universities
(Merrow), tuition prices are ridiculously high. How are people expected to get an education with
school costing so much? In the article Angela Whitiker's Climb Isabel Wilkerson tells of Mrs.
Whitiker's near impossible climb out of poverty and into the upper–middle class. Ms. Whitaker,
faced many struggles on her way up the ladder, but she worked hard, and eventually she wound up
on top. Still through all of her hard work she could not have gotten to where she is now on her own.
She needed someone to support her and her family emotionally, physically, and financially just for
her to graduate with an Associate's degree (202–16). It took a lot of time and effort for Mrs.
Whitiker to get out of the place she was born into, and at times it looked like she would never get
out, but she pushed forward, and lucked out. Most people don't have the drive Mrs. Whitiker had,
many students simply leave college when they begin to feel the pressure. In a study over college

Life is believed to be easier for people with higher degrees than for those without higher degrees.
Hence, it is the joy of parents to see their children admitted into a higher institution. With the high
cost attached to attending a four year university, most students prefer to attend community colleges.
Community colleges provide the same quality of education offered by universities for the first two
years at a lower cost which help students reduce debts toward getting their higher degree. However,
compared to the number of students who started their first year in community colleges, a large
percentage dropped out. This is common to both freshly graduated high school students and adults
who came back to college to obtain a degree. Students drop out of colleges because of financial
issues and the need to take remedial courses. As a result, they have self esteem issues and may
remain poor.
Students drop out of colleges because of financial issues. Although some students get financial aid,
it is not enough to pay for the expenses attached to getting a college degree. Students need money to
buy textbooks which are highly expensive. Most courses required assignments to be taken online in
which students must purchase a pass code. They also need money to pay their bills, take

Often students take high school for granted; consequently it shows when they reach college. For
example, in high school, teachers may accept late work, tardiness, and continuous inappropriate
behavior. The college classes that they will have to face will not tolerate such things as this.
Preparing for the work load and lifestyle is the two most important objectives to grasp early.
Furthermore, many people want to progress in their work, some simply want to gain in depth
education on the particular field they want to achieve. However, individual's bosses do not always

families or not will put them in a tight position. Ultimately the demand for both will result in them

Analysis Of The Movie ' Gangs Of New York '
Positive Criticism – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0217505/ Warping you into Manhattan's Five
Points, an area in New York City upon which seemed as a place with no law during the mid–19th
century. The drama film directed by Martin Scorsese, Gangs of New York, provides us an account of
the anarchy that occurred; following the life of a man named Amsterdam, the son of a popular Irish–
American leader, Priest Valon. Supported by the extraordinary acting performances by Daniel Day–
Lewis (aka Bill the Butcher) and Leonardo DiCaprio (as Amsterdam) the film is a massive
achievement. Scorsese creates a visualization of American's primitive past, where violence and
unrest was frequent in New York at the beginning of the Civil War. This is due to the editing and
packaging of the story is filled with the same no–nonsense attitude that is shared with the characters
themselves. Fueled by the hostility between the different social–groups who inhabit the Five Points.
Every character lives on knives edge the whole film, as the groups live amongst each other in the
crowded burrows. Scorsese uses this attitude to elegantly transition between the multiple plot lines
within the film. In addition, the attitude gives context to the film, helping the plot lines build on top
of each other slowly increasing the tension, adding value to the viewing experience. Unlike most

The Growing Problem of College Dropouts
In America, there is a growing problem of college dropouts, which if left untreated for even a
generation, will be detrimental to not only educational standards, but also the country's ability to
maintain its competitive edge in the financial markets, technological advancements, and fields of
academia. This problem with dropout rates seem to lie in a large percentage of students who do not
know what they want to do or have the motivation and direction to achieve higher educational goals.
Therefore, In order to curb this rising decline, undecided students will need more commitment from
the school's administration. Undecided students need more outreach and connection programs in
order to build better relations between themselves and the administrative bodies to smoothly direct
students to the career that is best suit for them. A good example of a student council making a
difference in the student body can be seen at Columbia University in 2013 where the Insight Party
set clear and attainable goals for students such as decreasing the council's operational budget by
twenty percent and reallocating the funds into student programs and creating a more transparent
system. Therefore, as Columbia University has shown, more involvement on the student council's
part can have positive effects on the students in their ambitions. Expanded academic advising is also
needed. With centrally trained and selected advisers, Florida State University has set up advising
centers that provide

College Dropouts throughout the U.S.
There are many reasons why over the years the United States has experienced a high college dropout
rate among college students. The dropout rate results in unqualified and poorly skilled workers who
eventually apply for low paying jobs and then realize the importance of a college degree. College
dropout rates throughout the U.S. are caused by several reasons, including, lack of finance, lack of
academic readiness, and stress. Many students have aspirations about attending the college of their
dreams, but many people lack financial support and are not able to go because of high tuition
payments, such as housing, and other college expenses. U.S. Student Loans Debt Statistics for 2017
indicate that "the cost of attending college is becoming a growing burden for a huge portion of
Americans." (Student Loan Hero). Students are left with the option of dropping and leaving school.
Even after receiving some financial support, such as scholarships and grants, students have limited
amount of money to pay off their expenses. At the start of their college career, students apply for the
colleges they would like to go to, and many forget about the financial decision that is required to pay
for college. "A 2010 study on more than 200,000 freshmen at four–year colleges, more students
rated themselves as below average in emotional health than ever before. The financial stress of
worrying about their college loans and whether they'll find a job after college and the day to day
stress of making decisions for themselves in all aspects of their lives." (Allianz). Unfortunately,
freshman students are the main group of college students that go through financial conflicts, leading
to stress about how to pay for college. Some students choose to work their way through college.
"Others decide they'd rather be making money working full time than pursuing a costly degree. Still
others become discouraged at the prospect of incurring loan debt" (College View). According to
Public Agenda, "Work is the top reason young adults give for not returning to college once they
leave. More than a third (36 percent) of those who left school say that even if they had a grant that

Causes Of College Dropout Rates
College Drop Out Rates A major subject that has been brought up by students, parents, reporters etc.
is the phenomenon of high student dropout rates in U.S. colleges. Many students over the last few
years have changed their majors, and eventually dropped their education in college and went out to
find jobs, but we have to consider the causes that led them to do something like that. On the other
hand, there are people who that think that this phenomenon is not as a great deal as people make it
and that the dropout rates in U.S. colleges is not that high. In order to get a better understanding of
this subject, I have found three sources that can prove that the phenomenon of high student dropout
rates in U.S. colleges is a true issue and the causes, which are three main things: anxiety, student
debts and financial success. First things that we have to check why students dropout rates has
increased over the last years so much is due to the cause of anxiety. The main problem that arise
from anxiety is that it will follow people for the rest of their lives and have a great effect on what
they want to do in their lives, the only way to solve this problem is by visiting a doctor, and
potentially for a prolonged period of time. According to Ronald A. et al. , their research show that
students have a monthly income from their jobs of $595.52 and that their student loans could reach
up to $16,456.56 and scoring a mean anxiety score of 19.34 (3). We can clearly see that the student

past three decades, the average tuition at a public four–year college has gone up by more than 250
percent. It also states that college graduates owing more than $26,000 there are some who owe a lot
more. It becomes harder to start a family and buy a home. It becomes harder when you want to go
on your own path. Higher education has always been important, but paying the price and living with

Community College Dropout Essay
Second, academic struggle is another cause for the Community College high dropout rates.
According to a new study that the vast majority of students overwhelmed by the lack of basic
knowledge of literacy and mathematics, and they have to drop out instead of earning an associate
degree or a vocational certificate. Especially the first semester, many students had a big headache of
the basic algebra, quadratic equations, and writing, and they do not understand what the Professors
talking about. Because many students had left school for a long time and they already forgot the
knowledge, and it is hard for them to catch up all the learning process. Also, there is a big gap

The average age of a community college is 29, and more than 60% of the students attend part time.
Since 1985, more than 50% community college have been women. Most students are adults and
many of them have married and have kids, they have to take care of their family, go to work and at
the same time attend school. It takes a lot of time and effort to take care of their family, so it is
difficult for them to focus on school. According to study, 60% of community students work 20 hours
per week, and 25% of them work 35 or more hours per week. 23% of the students have dependent
children. On the other hand, the majority of Black and Hispanic low income students study at
Community College, they suffer from the family financial issue, and short of family support. The
multitasking students have family responsibility, which cause their time limitation, lack of sleep,
social demand. One single mother shared her stress : "...my two–year–old 's schedule conflicting

Jeff Is A College Dropout
Jeff was a college dropout and he lived with Hillary Clinton {his mom} since he dropped out of
school. He was a twenty year old strong man. In his free time he liked to lift weights, tables, and
benches. He also worked at a workout center as a trainer. His mom hated that he didn't become
something wonderful like a businessman. His boss hated him and looked for any reason to fire him.
He hated Jeff because he was always screwing around, messing up, and pulling pranks on him. Jeff
was the only one who wanted the job.It was time to go to work so,Jeff got in his Slug bug and drove
to work. When he got there he was the only one there. Since he was the only one there he started to
work out. Then his boss came in and yelled at him. "You locked me out" shouted his boss "You had
a key," replied Jeff "No, you ran it over with the car," Said the boss "I didn 't know you dropped it,"
replied Jeff and they argued until the first person came to work out. When the person came in the
boss left. The person looked around and walked out of the weightlifting center. He heard a loud
noise in the distance. Crash! Bang! He looked outside and he saw the Titans running from the sky to
the ground. Were free yelled the Titans.Thank the monster that freed us. Jeff wondered why they
weren 't being guarded. He thought they needed to to be guarded better. The Titans ran and they

The Impact Of Music On The Music Industry
In every aspect of life, from gardening to quantum physics, there are people that carry a certain
weight with what they say and do. These people are often listened to upon other sources, whether it
be because they're simply likable or they have an extreme expertise in their field. Sometimes, these
special people become intertwined with their field and are almost completely synonymous. For
example, when thinking about physics one usually has Stephen Hawking come to mind. Music is
arguably a field that can be just as, if not more diverse and complicated as theoretical physics. As
such, it's harder to specifically narrow pinpoint someone as a key figure in music. Unless that key
figure is Kanye West. From his arduous and near–fatal beginnings to self–proclaimed godhood via
the Yeezus persona, Kanye West is without a doubt one of the most important and influential
musicians this generation, not only in the hip–hop genre, but in the music industry as a whole. Not
only is Kanye West an excellent musician, but he is taking his talents and branching out to other
industries–most notably fashion–and aiming to revolutionize those industries as he had (and still is)
the music industry. For these reasons, there is definitely an argument for Kanye West being one of
the most influential people in the entire world. Before being able to understand why Kanye West is
such an influential person, one must become acquainted with his beginnings. Originally born in
Atlanta, Georgia on June 8,

College Dropout Causes
The Social Cause of College Drop Out Rates Fifty six percent of students who enroll in college will
drop out within 6 years due to the constant stress of balancing work and school, expensive tuition,
and high societal standards (Atlas 1). The typical college freshman is not mentally or emotionally
prepared for college.(Allianz Tuition Insurance) The college drop out rate is seventy one percent
higher due to balancing work and school because students do not know how to properly manage
their time. With working so many hours, students tend to get overwhelmed because their time is
limited when it comes to studying for tests, quizzes, homework, or finals. Being in the workforce
and going to school full time interferes in your in and out of class study time. The article The
Struggle of Work–School balance states "Working full–time can shrink the chance that students will
graduate at all, by cutting into the time available for studying and attending classes" ( TheAtlantic).
The social aspect of balancing work and college are usually students who come from different racial
backgrounds. "Usually that are from a Hispanic or Black background but are also older in age"
(TheAtlantic). This leads back to a social issue because it shows how the system wants the lower
minority group to fail.( ). Due to not having the means to afford the university but also wants them
to fail so they can stay in the bluecolor community instead of making it big(). Also students from

Statistical Analysis College Dropouts
Statistical Analysis A big issue that colleges across the nation are seeing is an increased rate in
students dropping out and never looking back for their education. This is especially prominent when
the students are going out of state for college. Without much of a support system on their first failed
test, students seem to carry that with them throughout the rest of the semester. This later on becomes
a snowball effect and eventually leads to dropping out. However, being in a sorority for two years I
rarely ever see a drop out occur, because we are all holding each other accountable and have very
high expectations of each other. Which leads me to the conclusion that college students involved in
Greek life are less likely to dropout of college ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that joining a sorority or fraternity can increase graduation rates by 20–30% is astonishing.
There are a number of reasons of why just going to college without joining Greek life can hurt a
student's education. One big issue that I stated in the beginning could be because of the lack of a
support system. Wichita State is a commuter school; there are many people that travel here for
various reasons. Also there are many girls in my sorority who are not from around here and that was
a big reason why they joined Greek life; they longed for a support system like they had back home.
Another issue that I could see concerns finances. Sorority and fraternity members' and their families
are known to have some money to be able to afford their organization; therefore having money to be
able to pay for their education. There are many other reasons a students' education could be cut
short, however attempting to join such a stereotyped organization such as Greek life possibly would
prevent such

Reasons For College Dropout
The amount of academic work is one of the major factors in dropouts. Unfortunately, students are
usually unprepared for the rigorous academic effort required for college. Some students get through
high school with little or no studying. Therefore, they will face the bitter truth of being completely
unprepared once they get to college. One of the underlying reasons for lack of preparation to college
is the fact that students at high schools are deprived from being challenged. Many students take
classes that do not push them to exceed college level bar. They take inconsiderable classes to avoid
homework and any thinking process required for that. When the students attend college, the
difficulty of the classes boggles them and their actual work performance decreases rapidly. The
students sometimes expect the professors to babysit them and excuse their missing work or an
unattended test. However, college professors expect students to read and learn on their own outside
of class. If the students don't this, their grades will decline. A semester of bad grades usually
discourages some of the students and ultimately causes them to quit college. Another reason for
college dropout is excessive partying and drug abuse. Freshman students sometimes get carried
away with hanging out with friends and partying. They forget to work on their projects or study for a
test and eventually realize their grades are slipping. Sooner or later, they start having too much fun
and lose

Why College Students Dropout
With the current fluctuations in the economy and instability in the job market, it has become
extremely important to have a diploma from high school and a higher education. Despite the success
associated with education, the country is being faced with high rates of college dropout. Dropping
out of school results in social integration failure. This leads to subsequent diminishment of an
individual's chances of attaining personal success in fields that are legally accepted. The reduction
and deterrence of this phenomenon are difficult to accomplish because of the high intricacy of its
causes. A just identification and exploration of the factors causing college students to drop out
would be helpful in revealing the necessary course of action to assume and result in a diminution
and prevention of cases of college dropout. Many college students drop out of school because of
economic needs, poor academic performances, and lack of advising. Economic needs affect college
students hindering them from progressing easily with their learning (Beatty 16). Theoretically,
learners do not pay to receive public education from first grade to twelfth grade for the reason ...

College Dropout Boom Summary
For the Topic of the "College Dropout Boom", David Leonhardt makes interesting points on the
topic of education and society's views on education. Some of the ideas that he presented were
debatable in my opinion, but most every point that he addressed was correct. Growing up in a
household where both of my parents achieved a college education, I can personally say it extremely
important in this day and age to get a college degree, regardless of the immediate outcome. It will
give you an immense edge on the competition that you will face while applying for jobs in the
future.
One of the most engaging points that Leonhardt makes is the belief that someone's economic class
will greatly impact their decision on whether or not to go to college. This ... Show more content on

There are scholarships and financial aid that you can apply for that can help you throughout college,
so there is no excuse behind saying that if you come from a poor background that you can't get a
college education. Another interesting point that Leonhardt makes is that the "American Dream" is
lost and the chances for economic mobility have diminished over the past the few decades, which I
agree. I truly believe that the "American Dream" is still there; it's just a lot tougher than it used to be
to achieve your goals. My generation is very competitive when it comes to school and getting into
college. It's not as it once was back in the day when my parents were growing up. Those bound for
school in those years planned on going to school nearby home and believed that a school in the
radius of 300 miles away from home is too far for them. They believed that applying to one or two
schools was enough, and also the acceptance rate was mostly very high. It used to be simple, but not
anymore. Now we have students that are coming from all around the world to get an education in
the United States with competitive grades and impressive high school transcripts. With the increase

Increase in college drop–out: Rough draft Why is the college dropout rate steadily increasing? These
numbers include the freshmen, sophomores, and the juniors who seem to be the most affected. The
majority of students are dropping out because of the higher cost of tuitions. Most college dropouts
could not afford the cost of textbooks and other fees in order to continue their education. Also the
lack of study skills needed to help them succeed and not enough resources available to students. A
lack of balance of a social life and academics is somewhat difficult for most college student,

Schools should put in place more networks of peer groups or peer teams and make it mandatory to
all students to get involved. This can make it very easy for them to cope with college hard demand
schedule and homework. In some ways, discussion groups and interactions of learning teams will
help the student to take interest in academic progress. Also, competitions among the peer groups
will give a student chance to fit into academic demand. This can make the academic stress become
fun. It is interesting to know that success in beating other groups will make up for lack of
concentrations and encouragement. Of course, no student can succeed without academic
participation and commitment. In a book by Tim R. Westerberg, he stated 6 strategies for moving
schools from good to great "1. Developing clear instructional Goals. 2. Developing a Common
vision of effective instructions. 3. Using frequent Formative Assessment. 4. Tracking of student
Progress. 5. Providing Timely Intervention for Struggling Student. 6 Celebrating Student Success"
(Westerberg 4). This is where peer groups and professors will have to play a major role that will

College Dropout Rates In America
Did you know, that according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 65.9% of students in America
who graduate high school attend college? Major evidence also reports that this may be due to
financial problems. I believe that college tuition prices should be lowered because they are already
way too high, college dropout rates are linked to financial problems, and the attendance rates are
also suffering due to finances. First of all, the cost to receive a higher education is very expensive.
The ACS 1–Year survey shows that the median family income for California in 2014, was $71,015.

they even affect their dropout and attendance rates in a negative way, all because the cost to enroll in

College Students Dropout
As a college student, why would they go through the process of filling out applications and paying
all of that money, just to dropout? The contributing factors that relate to college students dropping
out are putting social and recreational activities before class, students experiencing stress and paying
for the cost of tuition. Clearly, there are many factors that contribute to the high dropout rate among
college students.
The first factor that contributes to the high dropout rate among college students is students putting
social and recreational activities before classes. In college, students can participate in many
recreational/social activities. Some of the options they have to pick from are sororities/fraternities,
intramural sports, clubs and sporting events. All of these options take up time, which is why they
need to balance out school and recreational/social activities. Balancing out their education and
activities or devoting more time towards your education will be beneficial in the long run. It will be
beneficial in the long run since you won't fall behind in classes, since you are making equal time for
everything. Lack of study often leads to grades plummeting drastically. The college student could
decide to dropout due to the low grades all because they invested too much time in the
recreational/social aspect of college. Clearly, students putting social and recreational activities
before classes is a cause of a college student dropping out of college.

Personal Narrative: College Dropout
In the city of Davenport, there were two brothers who lived together. Their parents had passed away
seven months ago in a fatal car accident. It was just the two of them, and they needed each other to

brother, was 20 and was a college dropout who had become another statistic. Their future wasn't
looking very bright, but together they had to chance to succeed. Things were starting to look up and
they were proving the statistics wrong. Jason was on track to graduate, but he hadn't decided where
he was going to college yet. Tyler had finally gotten a real job and starting giving them an income, it

This means their weekly income was gone. This stressed Jason out a lot and his grades started to

to drugs. Jason didn't want to get caught up in that so he began to run. The bond they had built over
the years was beginning to break. Jason decided to join the cross country team where he could run
even more. He was great from the start and had colleges talking about him already after his first
meet. Through all this running Jason met a lot of new people, one of them being his best friend
Matthew. Jason and Matthew were the two fastest kids on the team. They practiced together
everyday which gave them a lot of time to get to know each other. They both had shared a common
dream of running division 1 cross country. They set out to achieve this goal together. While Jason's
life was starting to head back in the right direction, Tyler's was doing quite the opposite. He was
starting to get seriously messed up mentally and physically. He also owed a lot of people money and
they were looking to find him. His life was at an all time

The Popularity Of The College Dropout
It's been almost twelve years since "The College Dropout" hit the airwaves. An album that would go
on and mold so many artists of today's rap scene. Since then we have seen Chicago's beloved Kanye
West, the "I miss the sweet Kanye, chop up the beats Kanye" slowly transform into the egocentric
Yezus persona that we have amongst us today. Not to say that Kanye has stopped making his all–
world beats and delivering Grammy worthy albums. He has just evolved. And with his evolution, a
void was left in rap as we knew it. "The College Dropout" has been a prominent source of
inspiration, love, and happiness in my life since the days of those 5 hour car rides with the big bro. It

"Good ass Intro" is an up–beat testament to Chance changing both as an artist and as a person. The
four minutes that follow work by on skittering rhymes and slippery wordplay, "ending with a line
proclaiming this to already be your favorite album." He speaks on his life since the release of "10
Day" and vows to be "better than the last time." The track really sets the tone for what is to come.
The most lyrically rich track comes next as a two part analysis of the cities violence. After a few
minutes of boasting of getting women, becoming famous, and selling only the finest of ganja, and
after a silent 20 second break, Chance lyrically pours all his feelings on the violence and paranoia he
has had to witness and endure. Though while he's rolling with a gun on his hip, a blunt on his lip,
he's not mirroring the violence, but admitting to the accompanying fear and hoping for change.
Something that a lot of Chicago rappers could take note of. He wants to be "Captain save the hood"
asking media members and really the white community why no one cares about the travesty that is
the hood. "They murking kids, they murder kids here. Why you think they don't talk about it? They
deserted us here. Where the fuck is Matt Lauer at, somebody get Katie Curic in here. Probably
scared of all the refugees. Looks like we had a fucking hurricane here." Truth hurts, and that is ever
so apparent in his last few lines, "Everybody's dying in the summer,

Students Just Want to Have Funds
People assume students are young people who attend college to become adults, not knowing that
most students already carry on adult–like responsibilities. Nowadays, young people live on their
own, without their parents' help, and cannot afford to go to school and pay rent, as well. During my
high school years, I expected to be balancing university activities with homework and dorming, not
expenses and low–paying jobs. According to a New York Times news conference, a 24–year–old
former student, Frankie Barria says "having a roof over my head and food to eat was more
important". Mr. Barria found it difficult to do well in school and stay employed, so he resigned his
education. The leading cause of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And if the school reached out to students when there was a certain amount of absences, I strongly
believe that the student would become motivated because their school cared enough to contact them
just to offer to help. This school system would require the student to attend the workshop in order to
back them up financially. Students attending the workshops could work together to create
fundraisers for their school debts including textbooks and school supplies, alleviating stress for the
students. Feeling like you're in a team with people who are experiencing similar struggles helps the
student to not feel alone and take initiative on solving their particular problem. This resource will
help students to slowly motivate students to attend school and pay off pending debts. College
dropouts will not cease to happen but colleges can help reduce that percentage by participating more
with students to pay debts. I'd feel more confident in accomplishing my goal of graduating if I felt
like my school was there for me in any way that I needed them, including monetary wise. Dropping
out of college shouldn't be happening, especially due to finances. The reason people decide to attend
school is to increase success and income to live in this expensive world. Every individual should
have the opportunity to move up the ladder of success, and no one should be denied education due
to low income. Workshops and money management courses should be enough to avoid

Colleges Versus Their Dropouts Summary
In the article "Colleges Versus Their Dropouts: Who Comes Out On Top?" Natalie Sportelli states
that most people believe the key to success is determined by their college diplomas, however,
talented people can still achieve in their life without owning a college degree. The author illustrates
his idea by demonstrating several famous people's examples. For instance, Bill Gates succeeded by
earning 80 billion dollars. Another example is Lady Gaga who has an outstanding number of 41.6

Apart from the idea that college degree does not decide the path of life, the author asserts that it is
still worth people's time. According to the author's data, most people who do not own a college

By using the bear alone Mr. West turned Ralph Lauren onto the masses of rappers and fans (Kanye
West: The Evolution of an Icon's Clothes). As stated by West, he is "the most influential person in
fashion in the last ten years". That statement very well may be true. West is always in the public eye
showing off his new outfits. These outfits are then turned over to the masses where people take
inspiration from them. Many people like to mimic and dress after their favorite celebrity but it
seems West has started an empire of clothing, striking deals with A.P.C., Nike, and Adidas
seemingly creating some type of "sub–genre" to clothing called "streetwear". West has been
inspiring and influencing the way rappers and the regular population dress since the days he wore a

Causes Of College Dropout
The college drop–out and failure rate in North America is unacceptably high and it's becoming a
huge problem. In fact, US News reports that "30% of college freshmen drop out after their first year
of college" (Bowler 2). There are quite a few reasons students drop out of College. Whether it's
having a child or working two jobs, it's hard for most students to balance college and life. Some of
the main causes of dropping out include nontraditional situations, mental issues such as stress or
anxiety, and lack of self–knowledge. Many college students have non–traditional situations. Some
students have children or dependents that limit their available hours. This can be hard because
financial aid is not given to part– time students and they may not be able to afford their classes or a
caretaker. Students also may drop out because they don't want debt in the future and can't afford
college on their own. Some students work full time or have multiple jobs to support themselves and
pay for their education. This makes it hard to pass a class because they lack time to study or to do
their work outside of class. For example, an article about why students drop out states that "Nearly
three–quarters (71%) of students who dropped out of college said that work contributed to the
decision, with more than half (54%) identifying it as a major factor" (Kantrowitz, 3). This is a
significant example because it provides hard evidence that many students are dropping out or failing
because

Argumentative Essay On The College Dropout

  • 1. Argumentative Essay On The College Dropout In this article written by Holly Epstein Ojalvo writer from New York times says "Is college worth it?". What does that mean for a high school senior who is stressing at the last moment of their high school year, and don't even know what to do with their lives yet. Some students want to go from high school straight to college but some are indecisive about it, it's either the work force, or the military. Students that go to a Four–year University don't even graduate. In this article College dropout statistics it says " with these three issues leading students to leave college in the United States, more than 30% of students drop out in their first year.". Most of these students come from low–income backgrounds. There are many other reasons as to college drop outs, one an overactive social life, but i don't see how that could affect someone that much. Two homesickness, i could see this one happening most of the time because i understand being far away from my family. Three lack of guidance and mentoring from school officials. But college also could be a good thing for students that know what they want to do in life. See the 30% of dropouts are either because they aren't ready or they can't really afford it or they can't handle the responsibility, etc. But the other 70% do end up going on through high school and graduating and getting their degree or bachelor's. But you don't always have to go to college to get a high paying job, some jobs just require high school diploma. Most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout his career rapper Kanye West, has been portrayed as many different things in the media based on his public appearance and the subject matter of his music. The message he relates in his music is ever changing and often showcases different ideals or stances on issues echoed among different parts of the African American community. Two such instances of this come from very different periods of Kanye's career, and show two polar opposite opinions of how to deal with arguably the most important social issue in American history. This change in Kanye's way of dealing with racism reflects two differing schools of thought in the African American community. Although early in Kanye's career his music identified the racial inequality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another great example of this comes from another College Dropout song, "All Falls Down". Kanye says "We buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedom". (West, All Falls Down)With this he seems to be saying that while money can buy a top of the line attorney to keep him out of jail, all the money in the world cannot buy African Americans social equality. Again however he says nothing about taking action, he just points out the problem. At this point in his life and career Kanye seems to be have a sort of passive aggressive attitude regarding racism, he understands the problem and recognizes it but doesn't seem to feel that fighting back is the best way to deal with it. This sentiment is echoed by many throughout the African American community, including one of the most famous civil rights activists of all time, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a 1957 speech entitled "Justice without violence", in which he discusses solutions to the problem of inequality, Dr. King said "It seems to me that there are two possible answers to this question. One is to use the all [too] prevalent method of physical violence . . . And we all know the danger of this method. It seems to create many more social problems than it solves." (King Jr.)Dr. King argued until his death in 1967 for a non–violent resolution to racism and had tens of millions of supporters behind him across the United States. Like Dr. King and his many supporters Kanye seems at this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. College Dropout Analysis Graduation is right around the corner. Sometimes, it is hard to stay motivated. But, picturing that degree in the mail and the satisfaction that I finally graduated college is a big factor. The first thing to aid in this goal is to remember than college is not like high school. College should be treated just like a full–time job. It requires more work, focus, and motivation. College is an option, it is a passion, and it is life. It has to be planned just right, so that a person can graduate on time. That being said, being a student who hangs around college hoping to get adjusted without having a set plan, will more than likely end up dropping out and wasting tons of money and resources. The financial consequences of dropping out can be dire. College is VERY expensive. Every year a person is in college, it is about twenty–five percent more expensive than the previous year. Math is important. Attitude is everything. For every goal, there are multiple goals. The main goal should be to graduate on time. This main goal will lead to proper study habits, more successful course rights, overall higher GPA, and overall healthy college lifestyle. Confidence in academics is important. The more focused, the more determined to achieve and set even more goals. Creating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have learned that it really is important to look for the silver lining in everything, and to look at the life with the glass is half–full perspective. We keep a daily journal in this class, and I love that I am able to express my feelings. In each of my entries, even if a day seems like it has been the worst day ever, I always try to look at what positive can come out of the bad. Another important class that I have taken is motivation. In this class, we learn that enthusiasm towards achieving our personal goals is worth the immediate satisfaction we feel afterwards. It makes me want to set many goals and plan my ways to achieve ... • 7. Stress On The Life Of A College Student Stress in the Life of a College Student Stress is an emotion that is against nature to enjoy; yet it cannot be avoided as a human. A bum on the side of the interstate, who is considered the scum of society, experiences stress as he pleads for food and money in order to live another day. With this being true, stress increases as ability and opportunity increase. No one can deny the fact that college is an exhausting time for any student in the pursuit of a career due to its overwhelming workloads, stressful exams, and time–consuming projects. Because of this, students consistently fail to complete class work, drop out of classes, and eventually drop out of college altogether. Management of stress is the skill that separates those who attempt from those who accomplish. Stress is the force that motivates living things to survive. When faced with a trying obstacle, stress causes one to perform at his best. All throughout nature we see the healthy consequences of stress being manifested. We see the ant working hard to fulfill its duties as directed by the queen. In this way, the ant is under a form of stress in order for the colony to survive. The squirrel collects nuts in the summer and fall because he experiences instinctive stress to survive the winter months by the accumulation of food. Without stress driving one to work, life on this planet would simply not exist. In this way, it is easy to see stress in a positive, and further, necessary connotation. Furthermore, stress ... • 9. College Dropout Journal Entry #1: College has been one of the most intimidating experiences for me. This is the second time I started college the first time I got pregnant with my daughter and my husband joined the military so we moved many states away. I ended up dropping out. I blamed my husband joining the military and becoming pregnant for not finishing. Truthfully it was a lack of trying. Granted it would have been harder for me to finish school it was still do able under those circumstances. A hurdle I had to face before start college is to stop making up excuses and to stop blaming my situation for why I could not do it. I would constantly say that I could not do college because I was a stay at home mom. When being a stay at home mom should have been a reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How could that not be true? If you count your blessings, then you are more aware of how lucky you are. Often times we only think about the negative. When we do that it is easy to only look at what is wrong and not what is right. Sleeping and exercise is good for your physical health. Which in return is good for your emotional health. • 11. The Increase In Dropout Rates In College College is universally known to be some of the best years of a young adult's life, however for some it is the worst. Students fresh out of high school have many opportunities in college for independence, knowledge, traveling, forming new relationships, and a multitude of fun exciting adventures, so why would any of these young adults feel suicidal? The newfound personal responsibility accompanied by hard classes and social pressure that comes with college can be taxing on a college students mental health, and sadly most colleges and universities are ill equipped in helping students who are faced with these challenges. Community College: To Dropout Is To Fail To Dropout is to Fail Today, many people decide to attempt to further their education by attending community college, but quickly they realize it is either to hard or it is the wrong path. Many first time students face extreme difficulty getting caught up to a college level of English and math; therefore, they dropout and go back into the work force. Many first year students hold multiple jobs to support their own living expenses while trying to get educated, but when things get hard, many sacrifice their education. • 15. College Dropout Research An increment in college drop out rates with the inability to do well in courses has been on the receiving end of many theories as well as research experiments. In "Implicit Theories of Intelligence Predict Achievement Across an Adolescent Transition" Blackwell, Trzeniewski, Dweck (2007) state that some people believe that intelligence is more of an "entity" while others think of it as "incremental". In 1997 just over 54 percent of students who enrolled in 4 year colleges earned their degree six years later, even fewer Hispanics in addition of blacks according to some of the latest government figures. Bowen, President of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, has heightened his consideration on this matter with his data driven studies on college athletes, college access and affirmative action for the poor that has kindled debate nationwide in recent years. More than 70 percent of Americans go to a 4–year college, which is the 7th highest rate among 23 developed nations complied by the O.E.C.D. statistics. That is less than two thirds who end up graduating. This drops the graduation rate to 53 percent, leaving only Hungary worse on the statistics. • 17. College Dropout Rate And Evidence College Dropout Rate & Evidence To Support You 're done, you have dropped out of college and there 's nothing you can do. Congratulations, you are now in the 1.3 million that also contributed to this statistic. The college dropout rate varies based upon a wide variety of problems college students encounter. Now your reasons for dropping out? There could be many, some of which you couldn 't control. However, there are some that directly contribute to the dropout rate; that you could have. We'll be looking at 13 pieces of evidence that contribute to the dropout rate. Sometimes ethnicities have lower completion rates than others, "Asian/Pacific Islanders have the highest rate and American Indian/Alaskan natives the lowest 66% and 40%"(Pleskac). So you cannot choose your ethnic background, but that is no reason to not go to college or get a degree. About 40% of black and Hispanic students had a family crisis just within their sophomore year of college. That was almost 6% more than white and virtually 20% more than Asian students (Harris). Those things you cannot control and it is important that you keep the right mindset during hard times, so it does not interfere with studies. Coming from a different ethnic background they are more"..likely to come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, which makes them vulnerable to family crises"..which can be difficult (Harris). This could make it rough in college and even cause you to dropout. This is a factor that you cannot control but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. A Brief Biography of Kanye West College Dropout was Kanye West's debut album and in my opinion was his best yet. The album cover features Kanye West in a bear costume sitting on some wooden bleachers surrounded by a rustic cherub ridden, floral boarder. This image stands out to me in a lot of good ways. I like the boarder a lot and I think baby angels are very cute and are meant to symbolize Kanyes' art school back round. Kanye says that the album cover is meant to say that people do not always have to follow what society thinks that they should. The drop out bear mascot he named himself and is supposed to iconize this rebellious album and attitude towards the world and its institutions. Kanye had a lot of help from Eric Duvauchelle who is now a design director at Nike. Kanye West was in a car accident in October of two–thousand and three. This very serious accident motivated him to become a world star rapper because at the time he was only a producer in Chicago but had worked on some very famous peoples records such as Jay–Z. I really like the cover because it is elegant, classy, and it says a lot about him bursting onto the rap scene in a not so typical manner. Before he made a name for himself in the rap community, Kanye was in school at the American Academy of Art, where he had gotten a scholarship to study visual art. He dropped out when he realized that he would "never be one of the great visual artists of the world" and didn't want to end up working for an advertising agency. This idea was a good ... • 21. Solutions for College Dropout The Solution to Increasing Dropout Rates While there are many problems college students' face while attempting to obtain a degree, the largest hindrance from completion is that of financial ability. One of the largest contributors to college dropout rates is the lack of financial support. Many college students must work either full or part time to support themselves or their families. With the declining economy and increasing costs of college tuition, funds are being scarcely distributed and many college students find that they are unable to continue their education due of this. The degree of importance placed on college education is in decline, and each year the number of students completing their degree is decreasing. There have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The program is to still be funded by the US Federal Government, but to increase the funding for this I propose a one percent federal tax increase on all major corporations and businesses with an annual income of $250,000 or greater. This will likely incur great opposition initially as to why the increase in tax rate is on that of large businesses. In response to this, the effort of this new program will be to eliminate additional costly training by employers to undereducated employees. By having college students who are actually obtaining their college degrees working for these large companies, the need for additional training will decline. Thus, saving funds in order to finance the one percent proposed increase to increase financial aid. The proposed program will set to be launched during the upcoming years' financial aid process and coincide with the initial financial aid applications. A new committee of current financial aid staff will be formed to oversee the addition to the program, and will be set in place to answer questions and to help prevent fraud. The method for monitoring the student's progress is to still be the responsibility of the institution to where the student is enrolled. If a student fails to enroll for the following year and apply for financial aid, then no increase in financial aid funds will be provided to them. Also, if any break of one ... Kanye West is a world–renowned Hip–Hop artist with over 200 awards and accolades as a solo artist. From, The College Dropout, to The Life of Pablo, every album that West has released to date has been different from the previous one. The amount of originality, patience, ingenuity, and passion that he devotes to each of his eight studio albums illustrates the genius who is Kanye West. Although this particular album may not be West's most accredited album, this album was a visual masterpiece. Not only was the tour a visual masterpiece, but it enabled West to work with new people like Saul Williams, Paul McCartney, and Trent Reznor. Even though he did not have a natural singing voice, one of his most significant inspirations, Michael Jackson, encouraged him to keep trying. Not being able to sing certain notes, West switched to Auto–tune. Stand out songs like,"Love Lockdown", showed the boldness in West's risk–taking when using Auto–tune. Nonetheless, West was still hurting and mourning the death of his mother and felt truly lonely after His ex–fiance, Alexis Phifer and he broke up. "Coldest Winter", is an extremely haunting track, of a broken down West, singing a mournful goodbye to his mother. Then, there were the music videos. There was pop–art expressed in "Heartless", experimentation in,"Welcome to Heartbreak", and a tribal theme in "Amazing". Lastly, is Track 12, "Pinocchio Story", a live freestyle that West performed while putting on a full album show at the Hollywood Bowl. With stairways to heaven, a golden woman, choirs, an orchestra, and most chilling, a representation of his mother, West created a wonderful show for his audience, as well as a truly ... • 25. College Dropout Rates Enrollment at Utah institutions has steadily risen over the past decade as college has become the social norm for young adults, but is this a good thing? With more students attending college than ever before, the dropout rates in Utah colleges has skyrocketed as more and more students realize that college is not for them. With this influx of students and rising dropout rates, we as a society are left with an enormous number of young adults leaving college without a degree, any marketable skills and mounds of debt. A couple of reasons why college students drop out are because of the tuition costs each semester and the overwhelming stress you get while maintaining a job. This might lead to some sort of not trying as hard in school. Some kids might do this but most other really would try and get that free education and pay it slowly off later in life. This solution will put things in a different perspective like giving students and everyone the awareness of how important school really is. If students are aware of how education impacts your future then they will start trying even harder at school and just being able to have that drive to become something successful in the future. Many families in Utah think it's more important to serve a mission and to put off school. • 27. Does College Matter? Essay Many students see college as the stepping stone to a successful career and a happy life. Which can be true for some, however, many overlook whether college will actually help them succeed, or if college will truly be right for them. College is expensive and it is not for every kid who graduates high school, although it is marketed that way, high school graduates must think critically about their decision. Should I take some time away from school, to know myself better? What do I intend to do for a career? Am I more interested in educating myself toward things that interests me now and discovering my major as I learn, or do I feel I know what I want to do? David Leanhardt a correspondent for the New York Times stated in The College Dropout Boom that often times the thought of high tuition prices scare students away, especially lower–income students, before they even think about attending a college (92). And there is good reason for this. With the average four year degree costing $91,304 at public colleges and $179,000 at private universities (Merrow), tuition prices are ridiculously high. How are people expected to get an education with school costing so much? In the article Angela Whitiker's Climb Isabel Wilkerson tells of Mrs. Whitiker's near impossible climb out of poverty and into the upper–middle class. Ms. Whitaker, faced many struggles on her way up the ladder, but she worked hard, and eventually she wound up on top. Still through all of her hard work she could not have gotten to where she is now on her own. She needed someone to support her and her family emotionally, physically, and financially just for her to graduate with an Associate's degree (202–16). It took a lot of time and effort for Mrs. Whitiker to get out of the place she was born into, and at times it looked like she would never get out, but she pushed forward, and lucked out. The drama film directed by Martin Scorsese, Gangs of New York, provides us an account of the anarchy that occurred; following the life of a man named Amsterdam, the son of a popular Irish– American leader, Priest Valon. Supported by the extraordinary acting performances by Daniel Day– Lewis (aka Bill the Butcher) and Leonardo DiCaprio (as Amsterdam) the film is a massive achievement. Scorsese creates a visualization of American's primitive past, where violence and unrest was frequent in New York at the beginning of the Civil War. This is due to the editing and packaging of the story is filled with the same no–nonsense attitude that is shared with the characters themselves. Fueled by the hostility between the different social–groups who inhabit the Five Points. Every character lives on knives edge the whole film, as the groups live amongst each other in the crowded burrows. Scorsese uses this attitude to elegantly transition between the multiple plot lines within the film. In addition, the attitude gives context to the film, helping the plot lines build on top of each other slowly increasing the tension, adding value to the viewing experience. The Growing Problem of College Dropouts In America, there is a growing problem of college dropouts, which if left untreated for even a generation, will be detrimental to not only educational standards, but also the country's ability to maintain its competitive edge in the financial markets, technological advancements, and fields of academia. This problem with dropout rates seem to lie in a large percentage of students who do not know what they want to do or have the motivation and direction to achieve higher educational goals. Therefore, In order to curb this rising decline, undecided students will need more commitment from the school's administration. Undecided students need more outreach and connection programs in order to build better relations between themselves and the administrative bodies to smoothly direct students to the career that is best suit for them. A good example of a student council making a difference in the student body can be seen at Columbia University in 2013 where the Insight Party set clear and attainable goals for students such as decreasing the council's operational budget by twenty percent and reallocating the funds into student programs and creating a more transparent system. Therefore, as Columbia University has shown, more involvement on the student council's part can have positive effects on the students in their ambitions. Expanded academic advising is also needed. • 37. College Dropout Papers College Dropouts throughout the U.S. There are many reasons why over the years the United States has experienced a high college dropout rate among college students. The dropout rate results in unqualified and poorly skilled workers who eventually apply for low paying jobs and then realize the importance of a college degree. College dropout rates throughout the U.S. are caused by several reasons, including, lack of finance, lack of academic readiness, and stress. Many students have aspirations about attending the college of their dreams, but many people lack financial support and are not able to go because of high tuition payments, such as housing, and other college expenses. U.S. Student Loans Debt Statistics for 2017 indicate that "the cost of attending college is becoming a growing burden for a huge portion of Americans." (Student Loan Hero). Students are left with the option of dropping and leaving school. Even after receiving some financial support, such as scholarships and grants, students have limited amount of money to pay off their expenses. At the start of their college career, students apply for the colleges they would like to go to, and many forget about the financial decision that is required to pay for college. "A 2010 study on more than 200,000 freshmen at four–year colleges, more students rated themselves as below average in emotional health than ever before. The financial stress of worrying about their college loans and whether they'll find a job after college and the day to day stress of making decisions for themselves in all aspects of their lives." (Allianz). Unfortunately, freshman students are the main group of college students that go through financial conflicts, leading to stress about how to pay for college. Some students choose to work their way through college. "Others decide they'd rather be making money working full time than pursuing a costly degree. Still others become discouraged at the prospect of incurring loan debt" (College View). According to Public Agenda, "Work is the top reason young adults give for not returning to college once they leave. Many students over the last few years have changed their majors, and eventually dropped their education in college and went out to find jobs, but we have to consider the causes that led them to do something like that. On the other hand, there are people who that think that this phenomenon is not as a great deal as people make it and that the dropout rates in U.S. colleges is not that high. In order to get a better understanding of this subject, I have found three sources that can prove that the phenomenon of high student dropout rates in U.S. colleges is a true issue and the causes, which are three main things: anxiety, student debts and financial success. First things that we have to check why students dropout rates has increased over the last years so much is due to the cause of anxiety. The main problem that arise from anxiety is that it will follow people for the rest of their lives and have a great effect on what they want to do in their lives, the only way to solve this problem is by visiting a doctor, and potentially for a prolonged period of time. According to Ronald A. et al. , their research show that students have a monthly income from their jobs of $595.52 and that their student loans could reach up to $16,456.56 and scoring a mean anxiety score of 19.34 (3). • 47. The Impact Of Music On The Music Industry In every aspect of life, from gardening to quantum physics, there are people that carry a certain weight with what they say and do. These people are often listened to upon other sources, whether it be because they're simply likable or they have an extreme expertise in their field. Sometimes, these special people become intertwined with their field and are almost completely synonymous. For example, when thinking about physics one usually has Stephen Hawking come to mind. Music is arguably a field that can be just as, if not more diverse and complicated as theoretical physics. As such, it's harder to specifically narrow pinpoint someone as a key figure in music. Unless that key figure is Kanye West. From his arduous and near–fatal beginnings to self–proclaimed godhood via the Yeezus persona, Kanye West is without a doubt one of the most important and influential musicians this generation, not only in the hip–hop genre, but in the music industry as a whole. Not only is Kanye West an excellent musician, but he is taking his talents and branching out to other industries–most notably fashion–and aiming to revolutionize those industries as he had (and still is) the music industry. For these reasons, there is definitely an argument for Kanye West being one of the most influential people in the entire world. The typical college freshman is not mentally or emotionally prepared for college.(Allianz Tuition Insurance) The college drop out rate is seventy one percent higher due to balancing work and school because students do not know how to properly manage their time. With working so many hours, students tend to get overwhelmed because their time is limited when it comes to studying for tests, quizzes, homework, or finals. Being in the workforce and going to school full time interferes in your in and out of class study time. The social aspect of balancing work and college are usually students who come from different racial backgrounds. Statistical Analysis College Dropouts Statistical Analysis A big issue that colleges across the nation are seeing is an increased rate in students dropping out and never looking back for their education. This is especially prominent when the students are going out of state for college. Without much of a support system on their first failed test, students seem to carry that with them throughout the rest of the semester. This later on becomes a snowball effect and eventually leads to dropping out. The fact that joining a sorority or fraternity can increase graduation rates by 20–30% is astonishing. Also there are many girls in my sorority who are not from around here and that was a big reason why they joined Greek life; they longed for a support system like they had back home. • 53. Reasons For College Dropout The amount of academic work is one of the major factors in dropouts. Unfortunately, students are usually unprepared for the rigorous academic effort required for college. Some students get through high school with little or no studying. Therefore, they will face the bitter truth of being completely unprepared once they get to college. One of the underlying reasons for lack of preparation to college is the fact that students at high schools are deprived from being challenged. Many students take classes that do not push them to exceed college level bar. They take inconsiderable classes to avoid homework and any thinking process required for that. When the students attend college, the difficulty of the classes boggles them and their actual work performance decreases rapidly. The students sometimes expect the professors to babysit them and excuse their missing work or an unattended test. However, college professors expect students to read and learn on their own outside of class. If the students don't this, their grades will decline. A semester of bad grades usually discourages some of the students and ultimately causes them to quit college. Another reason for college dropout is excessive partying and drug abuse. Freshman students sometimes get carried away with hanging out with friends and partying. They forget to work on their projects or study for a test and eventually realize their grades are slipping. After a few minutes of boasting of getting women, becoming famous, and selling only the finest of ganja, and after a silent 20 second break, Chance lyrically pours all his feelings on the violence and paranoia he has had to witness and endure. Though while he's rolling with a gun on his hip, a blunt on his lip, he's not mirroring the violence, but admitting to the accompanying fear and hoping for change. Something that a lot of Chicago rappers could take note of. He wants to be "Captain save the hood" asking media members and really the white community why no one cares about the travesty that is the hood. "They murking kids, they murder kids here. Why you think they don't talk about it? They deserted us here. Where the fuck is Matt Lauer at, somebody get Katie Curic in here. Probably scared of all the refugees. Looks like we had a fucking hurricane here." Truth hurts, and that is ever so apparent in his last few lines, "Everybody's dying in the summer, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

COLLEGE DROPOUT Students Just Want to Have Funds People assume students are young people who attend college to become adults, not knowing that most students already carry on adult–like responsibilities. Nowadays, young people live on their own, without their parents' help, and cannot afford to go to school and pay rent, as well. During my high school years, I expected to be balancing university activities with homework and dorming, not expenses and low–paying jobs. According to a New York Times news conference, a 24–year–old former student, Frankie Barria says "having a roof over my head and food to eat was more important". Mr. Barria found it difficult to do well in school and stay employed, so he resigned his education. The leading cause of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And if the school reached out to students when there was a certain amount of absences, I strongly believe that the student would become motivated because their school cared enough to contact them just to offer to help. This school system would require the student to attend the workshop in order to back them up financially. Students attending the workshops could work together to create fundraisers for their school debts including textbooks and school supplies, alleviating stress for the students. Feeling like you're in a team with people who are experiencing similar struggles helps the student to not feel alone and take initiative on solving their particular problem. This resource will help students to slowly motivate students to attend school and pay off pending debts. College dropouts will not cease to happen but colleges can help reduce that percentage by participating more with students to pay debts. I'd feel more confident in accomplishing my goal of graduating if I felt like my school was there for me in any way that I needed them, including monetary wise. Dropping out of college shouldn't be happening, especially due to finances. The reason people decide to attend school is to increase success and income to live in this expensive world. Every individual should have the opportunity to move up the ladder of success, and no one should be denied education due to low income. Workshops and money management courses should be enough to avoid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. The Undeniable Influence of Kanye West The Undeniable Influence of Kanye West Kanye Omari West, an icon of hip–hop, pop culture, fashion and music in general. Kanye Omari West, a person belittled against and a person subjected to a life of racism and hate. Born on June 8th, 1977, Donda West, West's mother, always knew he was destined for greatness, but did she know her son would turn out to be the Kanye West, a man lacking the respect he deserves for transforming a big part of the music we listen to on this very day? West came onto the scene in the late nineties but didn't release The College Dropout until 2004, an album that took everybody by surprise. Kanye West changed the gangster filled rap genre by releasing his positive, soulful debut album, changing the way rappers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By using the bear alone Mr. West turned Ralph Lauren onto the masses of rappers and fans (Kanye West: The Evolution of an Icon's Clothes). As stated by West, he is "the most influential person in fashion in the last ten years". That statement very well may be true. West is always in the public eye showing off his new outfits. These outfits are then turned over to the masses where people take inspiration from them. Many people like to mimic and dress after their favorite celebrity but it seems West has started an empire of clothing, striking deals with A.P.C., Nike, and Adidas seemingly creating some type of "sub–genre" to clothing called "streetwear". West has been inspiring and influencing the way rappers and the regular population dress since the days he wore a bear on his shirt. Newer staples of West's fashion are tighter fitting clothes, leather, and suits. These types of materials and clothing are undoubtedly a new trend in the hip–hop community and industry all courtesy to Kanye Omari West (C.M., Emmanuel). Rap with introspective, thought provoking lyrics never really dominated the industry. The type of rappers who wrote about these kinds of things were usually more underground artists and generally called "backpack rappers" and their fans, "backpackers". It's not to say rappers in the mainstream never talked about varying subjects, it was just never their primary focus. West was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Causes Of College Dropout The college drop–out and failure rate in North America is unacceptably high and it's becoming a huge problem. In fact, US News reports that "30% of college freshmen drop out after their first year of college" (Bowler 2). There are quite a few reasons students drop out of College. Whether it's having a child or working two jobs, it's hard for most students to balance college and life. Some of the main causes of dropping out include nontraditional situations, mental issues such as stress or anxiety, and lack of self–knowledge. Many college students have non–traditional situations. Some students have children or dependents that limit their available hours. This can be hard because financial aid is not given to part– time students and they may not be able to afford their classes or a caretaker. Students also may drop out because they don't want debt in the future and can't afford college on their own. Some students work full time or have multiple jobs to support themselves and pay for their education. This makes it hard to pass a class because they lack time to study or to do their work outside of class. For example, an article about why students drop out states that "Nearly three–quarters (71%) of students who dropped out of college said that work contributed to the decision, with more than half (54%) identifying it as a major factor" (Kantrowitz, 3). This is a significant example because it provides hard evidence that many students are dropping out or failing because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
