1. E V A L U A T I O N
Q U E S T I O N 1:
In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. What have I created?
■ I have created a Thriller opening to a film with my team
and we have named it 'The Latenter'. It is a two minute
opening that builds in tension and outlines a basic
diegesis to the movie. Our target audience are teens and
young adults and this is because they have more time to go
and watch the film and I feel they would enjoy it more as
the situation (bank robberies) binds better with young
people than old. The film opening stars Benjamin Radcliffe
and Carlotta Benat and they are both young and aspiring
actors
3. What would I compare
'The Latenter' to?
■ If I had to compare 'The latenter' to another main film I think I
would compare it to 'The Italian Job' as they both follow a storyline
that shows the protagonist and his crew stealing money. In the
Italian Job their task it to steal $4 million worth of Gold bars
arriving in Italy from China they use Mini Coopers as the getaway
vehicles and I enjoy the idea of them embarking on a mission to steal
millions of pounds/dollars.
■ I could also compare it to the British TV series 'Hustle' as that
shows the different jobs in which con artists pull off and 'The
Latenter' is about a girl conning everyone she meets to get all of
the money from the heists. Both 'The Latenter' and 'Hustle' show how
the con artists end up conning the wrong people and have to dig
themselves out of a sticky situation.
■ I could compare it to 'Columbiana' which is about a young woman who
grows up to be a stone cold assassin after witnessing her parents get
murdered when she was a child. 'Columbiana' shows a 'kick ass girl'
which is what the protagonist in 'The Latenter' is.
5. ■ Hustle is a British television drama series made by Kudos
Film and Television and broadcast on BBC One in the United
Kingdom. Created by Tony Jordan and first broadcast in
2004, the series follows a group of con artists who
specialise in "long cons"

8. ■ The Italian Job is a film made in 1969 by Peter Collinson.
It follows the story of a man named Charlie who gets hold
of an old friend to pull off a heist in Italy to steal $4
million worth of Gold bars. Charlie's friend bails on him
and he has to do it himself using 3 Mini Coopers. Thw
original was made in 1969 and there was a remake starring
Mark Wahlburg in 2003.
12. ■ 'Colombiana' is a 2011 French action film, co-written and
produced by Luc Besson and directed by Olivier Megaton. The
French director's best known other movies are the action
films Transporter 3, Taken 2 and Taken 3. The film stars
Zoe Saldana in the lead role
21. ■ We have a very similar protagonist to Cateleya in 'Colombiana' as they are both
'kick-ass' girls. We wanted to use this factor to present a counter-type to what
we are used to in society. Our storyline could loosely linked to 'Colombiana' too
as it follows the journey of a girl who gets revenge or justice because of her
past events. We haven't exactly shown the girl beating up anyone in the opening
but we do show her shooting her partner dead and taking all of the money off of
him, I could also base my protagonist on the protagonist from 'Kill Bill' or
Katniss Everdeen from'The hunger Games'.
■ All of the films I have compared use handheld camera shots at some point and we
also used this technique in 'The latenter'. This technique is used to portray
madness or chaos and it adds to the intensity and tension of the film, we used
this successfully and created a very tension filled sequence for a Thriller.
■ All of these films also use quick cut shots to portray chaos and again present
tension to the audience, we have also done this to keep the audience on the edge
of their seats and keep them entertained.
